Ovation in Newport: A look inside the multi-million dollar music venue
A multi-million dollar event venue is preparing to open just in time for concerts, shows and community gatherings this fall.Ovation in Newport is a massive project 6 years in the making. Its indoor pavilion can hold up to 2,700 people, and the outdoor amphitheater can accommodate 7,000.In light of the CDC just altering its COVID-19 recommendations and President Joe Biden agreeing those vaccinated do not have to wear a mask, those at Ovation are still deciding what the safety protocols might be, if any, come opening time."We're hoping by the time we're ready to open that we'll at least be able to open at full capacity," Director of Marketing Marissa Mcclellan said.Just across the river, the Andrew J Brady Icon Music Center at the banks is still taking shape.Artists are already set to perform and the list was announced Friday morning for the first wave of show. The artists are Lady A, Russ, Jelly Roll, Dirty Heads & Sublime with Rome, The Distillers, The Struts, Kip Moor and Jordan Davis.The official opening date for Ovation is still yet to be determined.
