"UC to the moon!"
Despite Xavier University fans putting up massive numbers, the University of Cincinnati has made a comeback.
The crosstown tip-off is going back to its roots with another massive tip left at Zip's Cafe in Mount Lookout on Sunday.
This time it was UC fans who left a $1,250 tip for a $29 bill, according to a Facebook post.
"We certainly weren’t expecting this generosity to come back our way again but we truly appreciate the unbelievable support we’ve seen," the restaurant said in its post.
There were two other tips left on Sunday as well.
A $1,100 tip for a $61 bill was left by Xavier fans who ordered carry out from the Bellevue Bistro and a UC fan left a $1,026 tip for a $10 meal at a Skyline in Oakley.
UC fans dining at Arnold's Bar and Grill left a $1,008 tip on Saturday, but that wasn't enough to beat Xavier, who forced a turnover by leaving a $1,010 tip the night before at Dead Low Brewing in the Cincinnati neighborhood of California.
Before that, Xavier fans left a $1,007 tip at Sacred Beast in Over-the Rhine on Thursday, beating UC's previous score of $1,005 left at Chandler's Burger Bistro in Delhi.
The challenge started when a Xavier fan left a $1,000 tip at Zip's Cafe in Mount Lookout.
It's named "crosstown tip-off" after the annual college basketball game played in December between the UC Bearcats and Xavier Musketeers.
Fans take turns leaving generous tips at local restaurants, usually leaving a couple dollars more than what was left previously. Though it seems that trend has been broken, with the last tip being over $100 more than Xavier's previous score.
Besides being a lighthearted way for college basketball fans to compete, the challenge is also used as a way to support restaurant workers who've been working throughout the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Now it's Xavier's turn to keep the ball rolling.
