Cincinnati Enquirer names high school athletes of the week, June 4

In a vote that ended June 4, Cincinnati.com readers selected winners for the Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, for the May 24-31 voting period.

Winners will receive a certificate sent through the school's athletic department. The certificates through May 21 have been mailed. We will send the others at the end of the spring season for Greater Cincinnati.

You do not have to be a subscriber to vote, a period that lasts Monday evenings to 5 p.m. each Friday during the season. Please submit any nominees by Sunday evening for the previous week's performances to [email protected]

Mercy Health is the presenting sponsor for the Cincinnati.com Sports Awards and Athlete of the Week.

This week's winners are:

Ohio boys team: Elder volleyball – Elder won its part of the regional bracket with a 3-0 sweep of Mason May 27 and a thrilling five-set victory over St. Xavier in the finals on May 29.

Ohio girls team: Princeton track and field – By one point over the runner-up and three points over the third-place finisher, Princeton won the Division I regional title on May 28.
