MADISON COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A man found dead along I-71 north in Madison County has been identified as Rodney Watkins from Cincinnati.
A passerby found the body of the 19-year-old on the side of the road in Range Township at about 3 a.m. on Oct. 17. Madison County is southwest of Columbus and east of Dayton.
Watkins' body was taken to the Madison County Coroner for an autopsy. Watkins was shot to death. He did not have a wallet on him when his body was found so the coroner had to use fingerprints to identify him. Detectives believe whatever happened to Watkins started in Cincinnati and ended with his body being dumped in Madison County.
"I think everybody wants closure. It's important for the family to get closure and that's why we're down here trying to find out what started and what happened and what led to him being thrown out on the side of the road in Madison County," said Eric Semler, Chief Deputy of the Madison Co. Sheriff's Office.
The Madison Co. Sheriff's Office, Cincinnati Police and Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating Watkins' murder.
