CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The University of Cincinnati welcomed students back to campus for the fall semester on Monday.
For the seventh straight year, UC expects record enrollment with more than 46,000 students on campus.
Nearly 8,000 first-year students were welcomed onto campus, another record for incoming students.
The new class will be among the first to test-drive the new Bearcat Promise initiative with the goal that students graduate with a career plan in addition to a diploma.
UC is in the middle of its' Bicentennial year.
The new year will start with two new buildings on campus: the Carl H. Lindner College of Business and the College of Allied Health Sciences.
The buildings were designed to feature increased academic and collaborative space.
UC's Early IT Program is expanding from 30 high school students in 2017 to an expected 2,000 participants this year.
The first high school participants in the program are beginning full time at UC this fall.
Students participating in the program will be given the opportunity to skip their freshman year at UC by completing six IT classes and three other college-level classes. Those students are automatically accepted to UC as sophomore IT majors.
