Fairfield woman arrested for husband's death

FAIRFIELD, Ohio (WKRC) - A weekend shooting in Fairfield has turned fatal. Tika Katel, 57, died from his injuries on Monday. His wife, Subha, has been charged with negligent homicide.

Police say Subha Katel shot her husband at their home on Sigmon Way, near Resor Road, at about 3:15 p.m. on August 10. He was flown by medical helicopter to UC Medical Center but died on Monday.

A 911 call by a relative in the home initially said Tika Katel was playing with the gun and accidentally shot himself.

Subha Katel appeared in court Tuesday afternoon with the help of an interpreter. She is allowed to remain out of jail but must be electronically monitored. The judge also ordered her to surrender her passport and remain in Ohio.

The Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati released this statement.

"We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Tika. He was born in Gelephu, Bhutan on 12/01/1961. He passed away in UC Hospital on 08/12/2019. He lived in Goldhap Camp and migrated to Concord, New Hampshire in 2009. He moved to Cincinnati in 2016 along with his family. We extend our condolence and deepest sympathy to family and friends. May his soul rest in peace."
