Moeller High School already has one more loss than they did all of last year, but still heads the opening Ohio Associated Press boys basketball poll at 8-2.
The Crusaders only lost to Lawrence North (Indiana) in overtime and to Calvary Christian (Florida), the latter coming in the Beach Ball Classic at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where coach Carl Kremer's crew took fifth-place in a post-Christmas holiday tournament against some top teams.
Moeller recorded wins over Socastee and First Baptist of South Carolina and Bishop McLaughlin of Florida to finish the tourney 3-1. They open Greater Catholic League-South play hosting La Salle Friday at 8 p.m.
Elder is ranked ninth, but just suffered their first loss 52-50 to Turpin after starting the season 7-0. The Panthers are at Northwest Tuesday and host St. Xavier Friday night. Receiving votes and finishing five spots out of the top 10 was Lakota East. The Thunderhawks have been limited to a 2-1 record and host Middletown Tuesday night and Fairfield on Friday.
Ross, who handed Lakota East their loss, is 8-1 with one blemish against Taft. The Rams are fourth in Division II. Three spots out of the DII Top 10 is unbeaten Batavia.
In Division III, 7-0 Cincinnati Country Day takes ninth-place with fellow Miami Valley Conference member North College Hill three spots out of the DIII Top 10 at 5-1. Cincinnati College Prep's only loss is to CCD and they come in sixth in the Division IV poll.
