Two people, including the sister of Bengals Joe Mixon, have been indicted in connection to a shooting last week outside Mixon's home that injured a 16-year-old, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers announced.Powers announced Shalonda Mixon, 34, has been indicted for one count of tampering with evidence and one count of obstructing justice. If convicted, Shalonda faces a maximum possible sentence of four years in prison.Shalonda could be seen being taken into custody shortly after the indictments were announced.Powers stated Shalonda Mixon's boyfriend, Lamonte Brewer, 34, has been indicted for one count of felonious assault, one count of tampering with evidence, two counts of having weapons while under disability. If convicted Brewer faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison. According to the indictment, on March 6 around 8:30 p.m., Hamilton County deputies responded to Joe Mixon's home for a report of shots fired.When they got to the scene, witnesses told deputies teenagers were playing "nerf wars" when real shots were believed to be fired.A 16-year-old victim was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot after being shot at 10 to 11 times, the indictment states. The victim was Mixon's neighbor and was participating in the "nerf wars" using toy nerf guns with his friends when gunfire was heard. The teen heard shots fired by his head and ducked behind a tree, the indictment states.Deputies who were responding to the scene stopped a vehicle seen leaving the scene. Shalonda Mixon and Lamonte Brewer were inside the vehicle when deputies located a firearm in the trunk of the vehicle which later was identified as the firearm used in the shooting.A search warrant was executed for surveillance footage from Mixon home which, according to the indictment, showers Brewer and Joe Mixon in Mixon's backyard and Brewer firing multiple shots at the teenager. The indictment states video shows Shalonda Mixon was seen collecting shell casings from the yard before fleeing in her vehicle with Brewer.Joe Mixon was seen carrying a firearm when the shooting took place but did not fire any shots, Powers stated.Mixon said he had been receiving death threats and was concerned for his safety after his sister told him there were people outside with guns, Powers stated.Powers stated as a legal gun owner, Mixon had the right to possess a firearm and did not commit a crime."I want to thank the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department for their thorough investigation. It's unbelievable something like this could even happen. It's hard to fathom how anyone could aim a gun at a child, let alone shoot 10-11 times at them. It's a miracle the child was not killed. Someone like this deserves to spend as many years behind bars as the law will allow," Powers said.
