FC Cincinnati wins preseason opener against USF, 3-1

FC Cincinnati got off to a winning start on the preseason scrimmage front.

Cincinnati on Friday defeated the University of South Florida men's soccer program, 3-1, with goals coming via Brandon Vazquez, Calvin Harris and Quimi Ordonez.

FC Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a tap-in by Vazquez, according to the team. Harris doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute before USF scored on a set-piece opportunity in the 80th minute.

Ordonez put the result away with a goal in the closing moments.

The scrimmage capped off the second week of preseason prep work for FCC, as well as its first full week in Clearwater, Florida.

• First half: Luciano Acosta, Zico Bailey, Tyler Blackett, Jonas Fjeldberg, Ray Gaddis, Nick Hagglund, Alec Kann (goalkeeper), Yuya Kubo, Haris Medunjanin, Harrison Robledo (academy, Under-19), Brandon Vazquez.

• Second half: Isaac Atanga, Avionne Flanagan, Nick Hagglund, Calvin Harris, Stiven Jimenez (academy, Under-15), Nick Markanich, Morgan Marshall (academy, Under-19), Ben Mines, Ian Murphy, Quimi Ordonez, Kenneth Vermeer (goalkeeper).
