Heroin overdoses spike over weekend

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The number of drug overdoses continue to surge in the Greater Cincinnati area.

The Hamilton County Heroin Coalition reports there was an overdose call for each hour of the day on Friday -- 24 of them in all in just one day.

Seven of those calls ended with the person being sent to the hospital.

Since April, Ohio has been having a surge of overdoes. Newton Police Chief Tom Synan, a member the Hamilton County Heroin Coalition, says the surge is fueled by fentanyl, a powerful opioid that can be deadly even in small amounts.
