Cincinnati City Council to set pay for interim city manager John Curp

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval speaks to the media after being sworn in as Cincinnati mayor at the inaugural session of the city council held at Washington Park in Over-the-Rhine on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

The new era at Cincinnati City Hall – with new Mayor Aftab Pureval at the helm – gets its start Wednesday with a vote on a contract for proposed interim City Manager John Curp.

The contract up for a council vote is more lucrative than ones offered to past interim managers.

The city manager runs the city's 17 departments and oversees roughly 6,000 employees.

A review of the contract shows it calls for Curp to be paid $265,000 a year. If he's terminated before a permanent city manager is selected, Curp will receive six months ($132,565) severance, plus accrued sick time.

If Curp stays on with the city in any job – he was city solicitor under Mayor Mark Mallory – he will be paid at 75% of city manager pay, which is $200,000. That pay must be guaranteed for at least two and half years.
