The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its latest girls volleyball poll Monday morning and Ursuline Academy's Lions were the top team in the state. Illustrating how intense the Girls Greater Catholic League is locally, four other teams for the league were in the top 10: St. Ursula, Mount Notre Dame and Seton.
With Mercy McAuley ranked in Division II, all five GGCL teams are among Ohio's elite. Ursuline is 16-3 (6-2), St. Ursula 17-5 (5-3), MND 14-7 (4-4), Seton 15-5 (3-5) and Mercy McAuley 13-6 (2-6).
From the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, Kings is No. 13. The Knights are 17-2 (15-1 ECC).
In Division II, Badin's girls are second, with Mercy McAuley from the GGCL No. 3 but receiving 11 votes for first place. Roger Bacon is No. 7, CHCA is No. 11, New Richmond No. 14 and Wyoming and McNicholas tied for 16th. Bishop Fenwick is at No. 21.
Badin is 18-1 (9-1 GCL-Coed), CHCA 10-6 (10-1 Miami Valley Conference). New Richmond 19-1 (8-0 Southern Buckeye), Wyoming 18-2 (12-0 Cincinnati Hills League), McNicholas 13-7 (8-2 GCL-Coed) and Fenwick is 14-6 (7-3 GCL-Coed).
There were no Southwest Ohio teams featured in the Division III rankings.
