Cincinnati police identify woman shot, killed while driving in Avondale


Cincinnati police have identified the woman who was shot and killed while driving her car in Avondale Monday afternoon.Officials have identified the woman as Johanna Rox, 37. Police say she was taken to UC Medical Center for treatment after being shot but died at the hospital.Authorities say the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Reading Road.Police said they believe the shots came from another vehicle. It's currently unclear if this was a targeted shooting at this time."In the middle of the day, a person lost their life, and this is just something that the city and certainly this police department will not tolerate," Cincinnati Police Lt. Col. Lisa Davis said Monday.Davis said officers were able to arrive and began interviewing witnesses shortly after the incident."I think we have a lot to go off of," Davis said. "There is surveillance video from different perspectives, the fact that we were here so quickly, and talked to several witnesses. We have a lot to go on."According to Davis, officers are using traffic and surveillance cameras in the area to help find potential suspects.This was the second deadly shooting in Avondale within 24 hours. On Sunday, 40-year-old Antonio Thrasher, was found shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.No suspects have been arrested in that shooting."Avondale has seen several hundred days with no shootings here," Davis said. "Any time there are shootings and they're cluster like this, we have to look and see what exactly what's going on."Reading Road was closed between Linton Street and Lincoln Avenue over the next few hours while police investigated."I have every belief that this will be a successful outcome as far as solving this," Davis said.Cincinnati police's homicide unit is still investigating. Anyone with information about Rox's death is asked to contact 513-352-3542.
