Former Highlands head football coach Brian Weinrich has left the same job at Newport High School to be the head football coach at Campbell County High School.
He replaces Mike Woolf, who resigned after four seasons at the helm.
Weinrich, a veteran football coach for more than 25 years, led Highlands to the 2014 class 4A state football championship. He compiled a 51-36 record while leading Highlands for seven seasons. His Newport team went 4-8 in 2021.
“Brian Weinrich is an outstanding football coach, teacher, and role model for our athletes and students,” Campbell County High School Principal Adam Ritter said.
Weinrich is a 1990 Highlands graduate who played on the school's 1989 state championship team. Before becoming head coach in 2014, Weinrich spent 18 years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Highlands. He was a major part of a staff that won 11 state titles over 20 seasons at Highlands.

Brian Weinrich was the 2015 KFCA District Coach of the Year, a two-time Cincinnati Bengals Coach of the Week, and a presenter at numerous national coaching clinics.
Weinrich has sent several players on to play college football at various levels, as well as preparing young men for the transition to adult life. He played college football at Campbellsville University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. He also has a Master of Arts in Education from Northern Kentucky University.
He takes over a program that was 1-10 in the 2021 season and 10-31 in four seasons under Woolf.
Campbell County and Highlands have played each other in each of the last nine seasons, with Highlands winning eight of them. Their 2021 game was in Fort Thomas, so it’s likely that Weinrich’s first game against his former school will be in Alexandria in 2022.
"Coach Weinrich's work ethic and discipline will provide an environment of success,” Ritter said. “He will hold our student-athletes to high standards. We are excited to welcome Brian Weinrich and his family to Campbell County."
