Freddy Galvis signs one-year deal with Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles announced Tuesday that they signed former Cincinnati Reds infielder Freddy Galvis to a one-year contract for the 2021 season.

Galvis, 31, hit .220 with seven homers and 16 RBIs with an OPS of .712 in 2020 for the Reds, which acquired him off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays in Aug. 2019.

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Freddy Galvis (3) throws to first as Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Jedd Gyorko (5) slides to complete a game-ending double play in the ninth inning of a baseball game, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Reds won 6-1.

Inquirer.com's Scott Lauber reported earlier this month that if Didi Gregorius - who made his big-league debut with the Reds in 2012 - didn't return to the Philadelphia Phillies, Philly might pursue a reunion with Galvis.

Gregorius, who turns 31 next month, hit .284 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs with an OPS of .827 last season for the Phillies. He remains unsigned.
