Gov. Mike DeWine should be fine.
Do Ohioans need much more of a projection about a GOP primary that's 11 months away? Voters don’t care right now.
But with former Congressman Jim Renacci announcing his candidacy for governor this week, it’s an opportunity to look at the prospect of DeWine remaining in office beyond 2022.
There are some loud Republicans who aren’t happy with DeWine’s strict health orders during the pandemic, as my USA TODAY Network Ohio colleagues Jessie Balmert and Haley BeMiller recently detailed.
It’s enough noise to make those who pay attention to elections for a living wonder: Is DeWine really in trouble?
Political observers are trying to figure out if the noise is mostly coming from the Ohio GOP’s uber-conservative wing, which has long viewed DeWine as too moderate. Or is the anti-DeWine movement much broader and includes establishment Republicans who’ve backed him for years?
