In a vote that ended June 11, Cincinnati.com readers selected winners for the Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, for the June 1-6 voting period.
Winners will receive a certificate sent through the school's athletic department. The certificates through May 21 have been mailed. We will send the others at the end of the spring season for Greater Cincinnati.

You do not have to be a subscriber to vote, a period that lasts Monday evenings to 5 p.m. each Friday during the season. Please submit any nominees by Sunday evening for the previous week's performances to [email protected].
This week's winners are:
Ohio boys team: Elder baseball – The Panthers toppled conference foe St. Xavier 7-3 on June 4, then upset Vandalia Butler 4-0 in extra innings on June 5 to win the region and advance to the state tournament.
Ohio girls team: Mercy McAuley track and field – All three of Mercy McAuley’s individual events finished in sixth place or better, helping to a tie for 10th in the team standings.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys team: Covington Catholic track – The Colonels scored 160 points to win the 3A, Region 5 track and field championship by 76.5 points.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls team: Dixie Heights track – The Colonels won the 3A, Region 5 championship by 44 points with 148.5.
Ohio baseball, big school: Kellen Sandhas, Elder – The junior threw an eight-inning shutout, with 8 strikeouts, against Vandalia Butler, which featured four all-state first-team selections in their starting lineup. The Panthers won 4-0, advancing to the Division I state semifinal game.
Ohio baseball, small school: Brady O’Brien, McNicholas – He drove in two runs in the 7-5 loss to Cincinnati Country Day in the regional semifinal.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball: Logan Stevenson, Campbell County -He had three hits and three RBI in the Camels’ win in the 10th Region semifinals, 10-7 over Montgomery County.
Boys lacrosse: Miles Blenman, St. Xavier – He scored twice in St. Xavier’s season-ending 11-7 loss to Upper Arlington in the Division I state semifinals.
Girls lacrosse: Josey Storm, Loveland – The senior had a goal and dished out a pair of assists in Loveland’s season-ending 9-7 loss to Dublin Coffman in the Division I state semifinals.
Softball: Tori Danneman, Notre Dame Academy - In her two district games, the sophomore went 4-for-5, scoring 4 runs and 4 RBI to help the Pandas win the 35th district. She was named to the all-tournament team. In the first round of regionals, she went 4-for-4 scoring 4 runs and 5 RBI, hitting a 3-run home run to help the Pandas move into the second round of regionals play.
Northern Kentucky doubles tennis: Eli Back/Eli Hornsby, Highlands – The doubles team reached the top 16 of the KHSAA state tennis tournament before losing to their South Oldham opponent.
Northern Kentucky singles tennis: Brady Hussey, Covington Catholic - He reached the top 12 of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association singles tennis tournament before bowing to his Greenwood opponent.
Northern Kentucky boys track: Leo Bouldin, Covington Catholic – He won all four of his events at the regional meet: the 200, 110 hurdles, 4x100 relay and long jump.
Northern Kentucky girls track: Ashlyn Vanlandingham, Conner – She won first place in the 1,600-meter race and the 800-meter race and her 4-x-400 relay team earned second while breaking the school record at the Region 5 AAA meet.
Ohio boys track: La Salle 4-x-100-meter relay – A .08 second difference helped the La Salle relay of Orlando Wyatt Jr, Gi’Bran Payne, Tyreeq Sanders and Koy Beasley to a state title.
Ohio girls track: Rachel Steffen, Mount Notre Dame – Steffen had four top-five finishes, placing as runner-up in the 100-meter seated wheelchair dash, third place in both the 400-meter and 800-meter races and fifth in the seated wheelchair shot put throw.
Volleyball: Matthew Reinhold, Moeller – Reinhold was the leader in a pair of middles that stopped the Elder and Hilliard Bradley offense on the final day of the state tournament, leading the Crusaders to a Division I state championship.
