In a vote that ended May 28, Cincinnati.com readers selected winners for the Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, for the May 17-23 voting period.
Winners will receive a certificate sent through the school's athletic department. The certificates through May 21 have been mailed. We will send the others at the end of the spring season for Greater Cincinnati.

You do not have to be a subscriber to vote, a period that lasts Monday evenings to 5 p.m. each Friday during the season. Please submit any nominees by Sunday evening for the previous week's performances to [email protected].
This week's winners are:
Ohio boys team: Little Miami baseball – No. 20-seeded Little Miami upset No. 4 Lakota East 9-0 in the sectional tournament on May 20.
Ohio girls team: New Richmond softball – The girls won the first district championship in the program's history with a two-out seventh-inning rally to defeat Benjamin Logan behind Joli Boggs’ third-straight complete game postseason victory. The win also tied the school record of 18 in a season
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys team: Boone County baseball – The Rebels won their last three games of the week, including 6-5 over state power Lexington Catholic.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls team: Ryle track and field – The Raiders defeated 12 teams to win a meet at Scott.
Ohio baseball, big school: Max Johnson, Mason – The senior went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in the 10-0 win over Greater Miami Conference rival Princeton May 20.
Ohio baseball, small school: Jeremy Krantz, New Richmond – The senior went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, a double, a triple and 3 runs scored in the 22-2 win over Shroder May 20.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball: Justin Huff, Boone County – The junior hit a grand slam and pitched five shutout innings in a win May 22 over Louisville Holy Cross.
Boys lacrosse: Nick Wilkowski, CHCA – The sophomore had five goals, two assists and four ground balls in CHCA’s 19-4 playoff win over Turpin.
Girls lacrosse: Kalina Zazycki, Ursuline – The freshman led the Lions to a win over Belbrook last Tuesday. The goalie didn’t let in a single goal while playing. With 5 saves and a shutout second half, Kalina’s hard work was a strong point for the Lions’ season.
Ohio softball, big school: Maggie Hojnacki, Mason – The senior went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in Mason 12-2 win over Lebanon for a district title.
Ohio softball, small school: Joli Boggs, New Richmond – The sophomore struck out eight and gave up just four hits over seven shutout innings to lead New Richmond past Badin in the district semifinals, 2-0.
Northern Kentucky softball: Camdyn Meier, Villa Madonna - In Villa’s extra inning 19-15 win over Dayton for the NKAC DIII conference title, Camdyn went 4-for-6 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. In Villa’s district seeding win over St. Henry, she went 3-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBI.
Ohio tennis, singles: Will Stephens, Mariemont – The sophomore finished fourth in the Division II district final four and will advance to state.
Ohio tennis, doubles: Nicholas Choo and Kevin Dong, Sycamore – The duo took third place in the district final four after beating their Beavercreek opponent, advancing to state.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana tennis, singles: Brady Hussey, Covington Catholic – The freshman completed a dominant run through the Ninth Region Tournament competition, winning four matches without dropping a set, culminating in the Ninth Region singles championship Wednesday. In the process, he led Covington Catholic to the team title as well.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana tennis, doubles: Lauren Janzaruk and Taylor Meenach, Notre Dame – The Panda teammates won the Ninth Region doubles championship and led the Pandas to the team title.
Northern Kentucky boys track: Jake Davidson, Lloyd – The reigning 1A pole vault champion cleared 15-feet to win a meet at Scott.
Northern Kentucky girls track: Maddie Neary, Lloyd – The junior cleared 5-4 to win the high jump at the Scott Classic.
Ohio boys track: Dylan Lanham, Taylor – Lanham helped Taylor to a team championship with his wins in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.
Ohio girls track: Elizabeth Whaley, Indian Hill – In the DII district meet, Whaley won the 800-meter in 2:19.63 and the 1600-meter in 5:03.42.
Boys volleyball: Owen Vogelpohl, Walnut Hills – The senior libero finished the season with wins over Fairfield where he set (normally a libero) for an all-senior squad, recording 43 assists, six aces, five digs, two blocks, and a kills. He followed that up with 50 digs in a win over La Salle. He also recorded an assist and a serve receive rating of 2.26 (out of three) on 27 attempts against the Lancers.
