<p>COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia elderly woman who went missing for four days is back home with her family, all thanks to a toddler.</p>
<p>The Coweta County Sheriff's Office issued a missing person's report on Wednesday for 82-year-old Nina Lipscomb, who went missing on Aug. 9. According to the report, deputies searched the area Lipscomb, who has Alzheimer's, was last seen, but she wasn't located.</p>
<p>That's where a toddler named Ethan comes in.</p>
<p>On Friday, the almost 2-year-old was outside with his mom, Brittany Moore, chasing bubbles around. When his mom noticed that something in the nearby woods was catching his attention when he ran towards their fence, CBS affiliate WGCL-TV reported.</p>
<p>At first, she couldn't see what Ethan was looking at, who had pointed to and said, "feet," Moore told the news outlet. But when she crouched down, she noticed a pair of feet.</p>
<p>Moore called for help, and when first responders arrived, they realized the person Ethan had found was Lipscomb, the news outlet reported.</p>
<p>On Aug. 12, the sheriff's office <a class="Link" href="https://www.facebook.com/CowetaCoSheriff/posts/pfbid0386iiv1RoDRCq8pvEkR5Pqq6r29VTaAShpm9hwECDT4rHBkz3sX9MqiPYW4yRDb7Jl">announced</a> that Lipscomb had been found alive. The authorities said she was "conscious and alert" and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.</p>

A woman in Ecuador who was previously discovered to be alive in a coffin at her own wake has now actually passed away.Bella Montoya, 76, died Friday afternoon after spending a week hospitalized in critical care in the coastal city of Babahoyo, according to Gilbert Barberán, the woman’s son. Montoya was quickly transported to the Martin Icaza General Hospital when she was found alive after banging on her own coffin at the wake in Babahoyo.“During her hospital stay, she received comprehensive medical care and periodic evaluation by hospital specialists. Likewise, the respective medical audit was carried out for this case,” Ecuador’s Ministry of Public Health said in a statement. Montoya initially entered the hospital for a stroke and was reported dead once before. Barberán told CNN that he has to register his mother’s death on the civil registry for a second time.Montoya’s daughter, Zeneida Leal, said her mother’s condition had been worsening. “The doctor said that my mom was sick, that she was very delicate, that she was suffering from kidney failure, that she couldn’t be saved because everything was getting complicated and she went into respiratory arrest,” Leal told CNN. The Ministry of Public Health has said an investigation is underway into the events leading up to her presumed death.

"You shouldn't have to navigate your own city like a war zone. It's un-American,” Taylor said. “The crime is out of control and it's terrifying. At this point, having to use the same tactics in an American city that you use in Iraq and Afghanistan simply to navigate through the city it's scary and I'm not the only mom feeling this way."Taylor said she was headed to pick up her husband on Friday. She said she was stuck in gridlock traffic when a group in a truck motioned to her to get over. So, she let them. Next thing she knows a man comes up to her passenger door."So, as he comes up he's close and he's pretty aggressive trying to get the car door open makes eye contact with me he's still trying to get it open a couple times," Taylor said.Taylor said she picked up her gun.“It’s locked and loaded," she recalled saying.Watch the video above for the full story.

<p>ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities in Colorado say a woman and a teenage boy didn’t hesitate and jumped into an icy pond in Arapahoe County to rescue three children who fell through the ice Sunday afternoon.</p>
<p>In a news release, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said that one of the victims, a 6-year-old girl, was not breathing when she was pulled out, but first responders performed CPR on the child, who eventually began breathing on her own.</p>
<p>The girl was transported to Children's Hospital, who was listed Monday in "stable" condition.</p>
<p>The sheriff's office said she was later transported to Denver Health, where she is listed in serious condition but is expected to survive.</p>
<p>Four children between the ages of 6 and 8 were playing on an icy pond in the middle of an apartment complex when three of the children fell through the ice.</p>
<p>It happened around 3:30 p.m. local time.</p>
<p>Arapahoe County deputies and South Metro Fire Rescue responded that all three children were out of the water after being rescued by the two bystanders. </p>
<p>The woman was identified Monday as 23-year-old Dusti Talavera.</p>
<p>The sheriff's office said Talavera jumped into the pond and pulled two children out of the water, a 4-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, but she struggled to pull the 6-year-old girl out of the water. </p>
<p>That's when a 16-year-old boy, a relative of the victim, jumped in the frigid pond and helped pull the girl out.</p>
<p>“I was looking out my window and saw a couple of kids walking on the ice pond. A few seconds later, I saw them fall in,” said Talavera during a press conference Monday. “Instinct was to go outside and help them.”</p>
<p>Deputies and rescue crews from South Metro Fire Rescue assisted in life-saving CPR on the 6-year-old. </p>
<p>Deputy David Rodriguez removed the girl's coat and immediately began chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. </p>
<p>Also assisting in life-saving CPR were Deputy Blaine Moulton and Deputy Justin Dillard. This continued until South Metro arrived at took-over life-saving measures.</p>
<p>Authorities released body-cam footage of rescue crews performing CPR on the child. </p>
<p>The videos can be viewed on YouTube <a class="Link" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awfc-TQZERo">here </a>and <a class="Link" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nUxNCZPf6Q">here</a>. [<b>Warning</b>: the videos may be disturbing to some viewers]
<p>“I have four boys. What [Dusti] did was amazing,” said Cory Sudden with South Metro Fire Rescue. “We were back at the fire station talking about how brave she was, how great the officers did. And gosh, I hope if this happened to one of mine, somebody like her was close by.”</p>
<p>In speaking to Talavera, she told deputies, "she wasn't concerned for her safety because they were babies and they needed help."</p>
<p>“I just kind of put some shoes on and ran out. Nobody was really outside, so I mean, it was me. I just knew it was me that had to do it,” said Talavera.</p>
<p>Authorities estimate the 6-year-old girl was underwater for just under a few minutes. During Monday's press conference, they all wished her a speedy recovery.</p>
<p>The investigation does not warrant any criminal charges at this time, the sheriff's office said.</p>
<p>South Metro Fire Rescue urged residents to be careful around iced-over bodies of water. They said Colorado's up-and-down winter temperatures create deceptive conditions on ponds and lakes, making the ice look solid. Still, in reality, it's more than likely able to crack very easily.</p>
<p>The pond where the children fell in is around 15 feet deep, South Metro said.</p>
<p><i>Robert Garrison at KMGH first reported this story.</i></p>

Andrea Arriaga Borges tested positive for COVID-19 on May 19, 2021. The mother of five said she had no underlying health issues, does not have asthma and does not smoke. Six days later, she asked her husband to call 911 when she couldn't breathe or walk. The last thing she remembers is talking to family before being intubated at the hospital."That's all I remember," she said. "And then I was in a coma for two months."Borges had to undergo multiple blood transfusions and a tracheotomy, lost her motor skills and had to re-learn how to walk. She missed one of her daughter's high school graduations."The doctors told my kids and my husband I wasn't going to make it," she said, with tears in her eyes. After four months in multiple hospitals, she said her doctors were shocked by her recovery and ability to be sent home. Borges was not vaccinated when she tested positive for COVID-19."I was against the vaccine," she said. "After going through what I went through, I don't wish that upon anybody."She is now fully vaccinated against the virus. Her four-month battle inspired her husband, children and her friends to get the vaccine as well. "We would never think it would happen to us," Debeie York, Borges' best friend said. "You hear about other people and until it hits close to home, that's when it really sounds the alarm. You go, 'Oh, this is real.'" Borges believes it is a miracle that she will be home with her family for her holidays. She encourages anyone who is unsure or against the vaccine to educate themselves and talk to their doctors."For my own sanity and peace of mind, it just made me feel better to know that at least there's a layer of protection," she said. "I hope that whoever's watching this that is young and healthy, it's not that it won't even happen to you, because it could."Watch the video above for the full story.

<p>INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A camera captured the heartwarming moment a 90-year-old woman reunited with her husband after overcoming COVID-19.</p>
<p><a class="Link" href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=984442772010390">Hooverwood Living</a> in Indianapolis says Joyce spent about a month away from her love Don as she battled the coronavirus in their COVID-19 unit.</p>
<p>“I have to cry from happiness,” said Don as he reunited with his wife.</p>
<p>During the emotional reunion, staff helped Joyce get out of her wheelchair to give Don a long overdue hug.</p>
<p>In the video posted by the nursing home, Joyce can be heard saying “I look so terrible,” but her husband reassures her that she “looks so beautiful.” Joyce responds with, “how can you be so cute?”</p>
<p>The couple’s grandson, David Klaus, wrote in a <a class="Link" href="https://www.facebook.com/david.klaus.79/posts/10159183680610579?__tn__=-R">Facebook post</a> that Don is Joyce’s “true love of 67 years.”</p>
<p>“She and her beloved husband Don have been separated this whole time, which proved heartbreaking for us to witness their resulting loneliness and loss of hope at times,” wrote Klaus.</p>
<p>Klaus says his family lives down the street from the nursing home and they ride their bikes most days to speak to Joyce and Don through the windows to keep them company.</p>

Watch the video above for more on this story.A woman in British Columbia, Canada, is thanking her lucky stars.Earlier this month, a meteorite hurtling toward Earth crashed into Ruth Hamilton's home. Moments before the impact, she was awoken by her dog barking. The next thing she knew, there was a loud crash."And all of a sudden there was an explosion," Hamilton told CTV News Vancouver. Hamilton then jumped out of bed, turned on the lights and went to inspect the commotion. That's when she noticed a fist-sized hole in her ceiling, right above where she had been fast asleep. After calling 911, she looked around her bed, flipping over her pillow. Then she saw it; a smooth, angular chunk of black rock. "I didn’t feel it," Hamilton said. "It never touched me. I had debris on my face from the drywall, but not a single scratch."Police arrived on the scene, questioning Hamilton and a nearby construction crew, the latter of which told authorities they had seen a "bright ball in the sky," before the impact. A group of researchers from the University of Calgary and Western University inspected Hamilton's home to look for more details about the space rock.Later in the week, they opened their investigation to the rest of Golden, the town in British Columbia where Hamilton lives. The team eventually found a second rock weighing a little more than a pound in the northeast part of town. "We’re trying to reconstruct what the path was through the sky as it arrived," Phil McCausland, a geophysicist at Western University, said. "Because it’s scientifically even more valuable if we can reconstruct what the orbit was before it hit the Earth. It gives us an idea of where it came from."The research team is pleading with people in the area to come forward with any other pieces of evidence of a meteorite impact.Hamilton loaned the meteorite that almost killed her to Western University to photograph, weigh, measure, and to potentially take a sample of it. She expects to get it back by Nov. 30.Officials say that hundreds of meteorites strike the Earth's surface every year. However, it's rare for the space rocks to land in areas that are easily recoverable. "The number one misconception is that they’re hot when they land," Herd said, adding that they begin cooling some 10 to 15 miles up in the atmosphere. "Mrs. Hamilton’s bed didn’t catch fire."Experts say that the chances of a meteorite landing in your home are astronomical. Specifically, about 1 in 4 trillion. When asked if she plans to buy a lottery ticket, she laughed, then replied:"I won the lottery. I won it, I’m alive. I’m laughing about it. I feel pretty blessed."CTV News Vancouver contributed to this report.

A Brown County man wanted the COVID-19 shot in February, but he wasn't eligible.By the time he was, his wife said supplies were short. Then by March, she said he had contracted COVID-19 and died.Seven months later, his wife spoke with WLWT again about how the virus has changed her family and how she finds peace now. It's been a tough time as Susan Rickett has dealt with her own loss and seen others sharing the same pain.Out of it all, she has found support."Even though he's gone, he's still with me," Rickett said. She finds many little reminders of her husband, Bob."I just look at the calendar and watch the day. I look for the fourth of the month, every month," Rickett said.He was by her side for 46 years, until he died from COVID-19 on March 4.Rickett said he wasn't able to get the COVID-19 vaccine when she could because he was a year younger. When he was eligible, there weren't enough shots, according to Rickett."He's missed birthdays, anniversaries, everything that he would have looked forward to, which he did, he has missed and I am so sad about that," she said.Seven months later, and the vaccine is still a tough conversation in her family just like many others."I have two grandchildren that have opted not to get the vaccine. That is a great concern of mine, even though they know what I went through, what their papaw went through. They've chosen, and that's a personal choice, I understand that, but I don't understand why people won't get the vaccine," Rickett said. With more than 700,000 people dead in the U.S., she knows this is a shared pain. But through the darkest days, she still finds peace on her porch knowing Bob isn't so far away."I asked him to give me a sign that he was listening to me and it was a very cloudy morning, that particular morning and the next thing I knew, the sun just opened up and shone down on me," Rickett said. She said her family has stepped up for her and she hopes other families dealing with this loss are able to find support.Rickett said she is around if they would like to talk. She also said she was grateful to get the COVID-19 booster shot on Wednesday.Rickett said she has a sore arm, but otherwise feels fine.

Sarah Fuller, the first woman to score in a Power Five conference football game, says she's been invited to attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday.“It’s an honor to be invited to participate in one of America’s greatest traditions,” Fuller posted Sunday on social media.“This historic inauguration is especially meaningful for American women and girls. The glass ceilings are breaking,” she added, including the Twitter handles for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris — who will become the first woman to hold that office — Biden, and their inaugural committee.Attendance at the inauguration will be strictly curtailed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and security measures put in place after a violent mob supporting President Donald Trump invaded the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as Congress was certifying Biden's victory.Fuller helped Vanderbilt win the Southeastern Conference women's soccer tournament as the goalkeeper. She helped out the football team while it was dealing with COVID-19 issues. She became the first woman to play in a Power Five game Nov. 28 with a squib kick to open the second half of a loss at Missouri in the only time she got on the field in that game. She got another chance on Dec. 12, when Vanderbilt had only 49 scholarship players for its game against Tennessee.Video: FBI vetting National Guard for possible threatsFuller, listed second out of three available kickers on the depth chart, came out for the extra point that tied the game at 7 with 1:50 left in the first quarter. She converted her second point-after with 7:22 left in the fourth quarter of the 42-17 loss. The Tennessean also reported that Fuller will be part of a TV special Wednesday night also featuring remarks from Biden and Harris.

A woman who was attacked by an alligator Thursday morning in Hilton Head, South Carolina, is alive thanks to some quick-thinking neighbors. According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, the attack happened at around 8:15 a.m. on Rookery Way in Hilton Head Plantation.Deputies say the woman had been walking her dog next to a lagoon behind her home when an eight-foot-long alligator grabbed her legs.At that point, a neighbor heard the commotion and saw the woman being dragged into the water, according to the sheriff's office. The neighbor called for her husband who grabbed a shovel and beat the alligator until it released the victim."The victim’s legs were damaged; however, the full extent of her injuries is unknown, nor do we know if there were any other injuries to the victim," a Hilton Head Plantation (HHP) representative said in an email to residents. The victim was taken to Memorial Health in Savannah and was able to talk to her daughter while en route to the hospital. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources captured and euthanized the alligator and will examine it to see if it was being fed. "We are very grateful for the quick thinking and brave neighbors who fought off the alligator and held onto the victim who was being pulled into the water by the alligator. We are also most grateful for the work of our Security Officers and HHI Fire and Rescue, who treated the victim at the scene and transported the victim to the hospital, SCDNR, for their quick response to remove the alligator and the Beaufort County Sherriff’s Deputies for their quick response and assistance," the HHP representative said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and her family."HHP added that they believe the victim lived alone. As of Thursday afternoon, there was no information available on the victim's injuries or condition. Her dog was uninjured.“This is an unfortunate incident. We advise residents to be aware of their surroundings, especially if they are taking walks with small pets near lagoons that are habitats for alligators,” said Joheida Fister, Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue Deputy Chief. A longtime resident of Hilton Head Plantation, Neal Warner, told sister station WJCL he's seen alligators in the area before, but they never bothered anyone."I would see them pop into the water, they would never ever linger for us," Warner said.Warner told WJCL he is now afraid to walk his own dog in the area where the attack happened, despite the alligator being removed."It's just not worth it, there are other places to safely walk," Warner said. You may remember, there have been alligator attacks in Sun City and Sea Pines as well. Both of those incidents also involved someone walking their dog. Watch the video above for more on this story
