The Christ College of Nursing has trained thousands of health care leaders who have practiced near and far in its 120 years.

"So many have gone on, not only in this region but across the country, providing care for thousands upon thousands of patients," said VP of Strategy & Business Affairs Brad Jackson.

Saturday at the 120th commencement ceremony, 161 new graduates will be sent out into the field once again to help change the world.

"I'm definitely excited, but very nervous being as I am a new nurse and it's critical care unit, but I am very open to learning and I can't wait to learn all the new ropes," said RN, BSN graduate Brooke Kunstman.

Kunstman and at least two of her classmates will head straight into the action as intensive care unit nurses in the medical and surgical units at Christ Hospital.

Kylie Montgomery says COVID-19 wasn't a deterrent but preparation to head into the field with confidence.

"I believe health care workers are like firefighters or those people that run into the fight and COVID is our fire and this is our fight," Montgomery said.

A fight that has taken many out of the game, but nursing students like Joe Stinger, who believes he adds a valuable component to the field, say the pandemic mixed with the already rigorous coursework taught him to be resilient.

Stinger's part of the 7% of male nurse graduates in this year's class. He says more men should consider the field.

"Men are really viewed sometimes as being more , I guess more stern. We're just looked at as a little bit more intimidating. I want to make sure that our patients know that we care just as much as everybody else," Stinger said.

This is the first year since 2019 when many of the ceremonial traditions will be back to normal. Next year, the college will welcome a degree in diagnostic medical sonography.

A man indicted in a crash that left another man permanently disabled in 2020 has been arrested again on drug charges.

Antonio Wright is indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, possession and trafficking fentanyl. Late August 2020, Cincinnati police said they tried to pull Wright over after he was involved in a drug deal. Police said he took off and seconds later, crashed into another driver.

The other driver, Travis Feltner, was on his way to work in the IT department for Children's Hospital. He was seriously injured and after days in intensive care and weeks in the hospital, returned home to his family, a wife and eight children.

Feltner has not been able to return to work after suffering a traumatic brain injury in the crash. He still deals with tingling and pain in his hands and frequent short-term memory loss.

He is also adjusting to life as a single dad after losing his wife Amber to COVID-19 in the fall of last year.

"Now everything is left on me," he said Thursday. "Making good money and all of a sudden I'm like ok we're barely getting by."

Feltner filed a lawsuit against the Cincinnati police department for pursuing Wright. The pursuit lasted a matter of seconds prior to the crash.

"I'm surviving," he said. "Being on long-term disability and everything and the gas prices soaring, it's just kind of a struggle each month."

The crash that left him disabled happened three days after Wright was released from prison on robbery charges, according to police. In Wright's wrecked car, police reported finding a handgun, 35 grams of fentanyl and almost $10,000 in cash.

Wright was released on bond within a few months.

In December 2021, he was arrested again with a "bulk amount of heroin" packaged and prepared for distribution. He made bond a few days later.

"This whole time I thought he's been behind bars," Feltner said. He learned this week that Wright was arrested again Sunday on drug charges.

Police said Wright had heroin in his vehicle. After he was arrested and taken to the jail to be searched, court records say he pulled cocaine out of his rear area and swallowed it. Deputies said he also pulled a bag of Percocet from a body part, ingested some and "spilled it all over the room," trying to destroy it.

He was charged with several crimes including bringing contraband into a corrections facility, trafficking drugs and tampering with evidence.

"I don't think it's fair," Feltner said. "I've been through heck and back trying to survive when he's just out running around doing what he would like to do... I won't be able to work again. I have this short-term memory issue for the rest of my life."

Wright, as of Tuesday, is being held without bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center. His next court date is May 16.

Feltner said he is looking forward to getting his day in court.

"What I've been through I wouldn't want no one else to go through at all," Feltner said.

A former firefighter and paramedic for two local departments is facing more than a year behind bars after pleading guilty to violence and child endangerment charges.

Some of the abuse was documented on video.

Steven Hendrickson Jr. was working as a firefighter/paramedic for the Deerfield Township fire department in Warren County and Stonelick Township fire department in Clermont County.

Hendrickson Jr. plead guilty to felony aggravated assault, child endangerment and domestic violence last week. He was previously indicted on five charges.

Hendrickson Jr. resigned from Stonelick Township Fire Department within the last several months. He resigned from Deerfield Township Fire Department more recently, within the last several weeks. The department previously placed him on administrative leave. Exact dates were not immediately available Wednesday.

Nicole Hempleman said her now ex-boyfriend wanted the two to appear happy to others and that nothing was going on between them. She gave birth to their baby girl last year.

"When he hit me, I looked down at Annabelle and I couldn't grow up letting her think that was normal," Hempleman said. "She would grow up thinking that is love, and that is not anywhere near close. You don't do that to somebody you love."

She said Hendrickson Jr. hurt her and threatened her life on multiple occasions in their Clermont County home.

She called 911 after an incident on October 7 and believes two incidents recorded on camera are the reason Hendrickson Jr. pleaded guilty.

Her motion-censored surveillance camera caught Hendrickson Jr. knocking Hempleman's phone from her hand while she was in a pack and playing with their daughter. The video then appears to show him lifting Hempleman up and hitting her.

The baby starts to cry, and Hempleman is seen on camera immediately calling 911. Court records said during that time, Hendrickson Jr. left the room and came back with a gun.

Hempleman said she started documenting her abuse and took a video about a month earlier showing Hendrickson holding their baby and telling Hempleman to stop recording her.

"Put your phone away. I'm (expletive) holding the baby. Stop recording me. You're going to lose it," Hendrickson said. "Put it down. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..."

What happens next is too violent to show. Hempleman leaves the room with her phone still recording. Within six seconds, Hempleman screams and is then seen in a chokehold.

"You don't understand what it's like unless you're there living it and the fear and the way that people get into your head," Hempleman said. "The feeling of getting out and getting mental help, going and getting therapy and all that stuff, it's so relieving. I'm a completely different person now. It turns you into something you're not."

Hendrickson Jr. is set to be sentenced next month. He faces a maximum of a year and a half in jail. Hempleman was in court the day Hendrickson Jr. plead guilty.

"For so long he told me nobody is going to believe you. Nobody is gonna believe you. I'm a firefighter," Hempleman said. "Hearing that guilty plea, it was almost like I was finally heard."

I think people are so, so happy just to be back together again and you'll see in *** room where people, if they knew each other might not get along, my mom might be red might be blue out here. You get people who are divided on politics divided on issues who will come together and just to watch you, what is that like for you? I think they're just, I think what they're doing is hopefully is the music is replacing the music is showing them what we have more in common than what we have apart, right. Because Saturday night's show sold out, Brooks added another show Friday night because he wanted to make sure everyone who wants to see him can.WLWT's Sheree Paolello had a one-on-one interview with Brooks ahead of Friday's show. She asked him about his tour and playing in Cincinnati."As a citizen, not being together was what we needed to do and it breaks your heart, so getting back together, we're seeing... I don't think it has anything to do with 'Garth Brooks,' I think people are just happy to be back together again.
