BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities are trying to identify a mummified body found by police in the bathtub of a northwestern Arizona home as they investigated a burglary.

Bullhead City police said officers responding to a burglary in progress around 3:30 a.m. Saturday discovered 65-year-old Christine Lee Walters rummaging through items inside the house.

They said there were pry marks on the door, indicating forced entry into the home, and that Walters had been going inside for days and taking clothing, purses and other items she allegedly planned to sell online.

Police said officers searched the house and found the body in the tub in a natural mummified state, which occurs when a corpse is exposed to very dry conditions that slow typical decomposition.

Police said Walters told officers she didn't know the body was in the house.

It's unknown how long the body was in the bathtub. Neighbors told police they believed that the house was vacant and that the homeowner may have moved away because they hadn't been seen for about a year.

The Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office was trying to determine the cause of death.

Detectives found the homeowner's birth certificate, credit cards, driver's license and income tax paperwork during searches of Walters' home and vehicle. She booked into jail on suspicion of two counts of burglary. Police said they are seeking additional charges after methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found in her possession.

It was unclear Thursday if Walters has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf.

WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

A West Chester man is charged with multiple counts of voyeurism in three separate cases in Butler and Hamilton counties.

Marty Worley, 21, is accused of spying on women and photographing them inside local department stores.

The latest criminal charge stems from an incident inside Target at the Voice of America shopping center on June 2.

A store employee called 911.

"I have a peeping Tom in the store right now," the caller said. "He's very blatant about it. He went up to this one woman seven times. He just took pictures of her right next to a child."

The caller said the man was photographing women and girls' backsides and up their skirts.

"He's just making laps. He's going around to another set of definitely minor girls. He's hunting. I mean, literally, I'm watching him hunt for girls right now. He's going to the makeup department where there's a bunch of little girls," the caller said.

While on the phone with a dispatcher, the employee said he watched Worley take inappropriate photos of a dozen customers. The employee said he couldn't take it anymore and ended up confronting Worley before police arrived.

"I can't let this happen in front of me anymore," the caller said.

According to a West Chester Township police report, two of the victims were 17 years old.

"That's disgusting and blows my mind," said Melissa Juneau, a Target shopper.

Another customer, Alauna Patten, said, "It's creepy all the way around, but girls, 17-year-olds, they don't know about the real world yet and probably never would have expected that."

This week, Worley was charged with voyeurism for that incident.

WLWT confirmed he's also been charged in two other similar cases.

On Jan. 17, West Chester police said Worley spied on a woman while she was trying on clothes in the dressing room at the Walmart on Cincinnati-Dayton Road for the "purpose of sexual arousal or gratification."

Three days after that, in Hamilton County, deputies said Worley recorded a woman in the dressing room at the Symmes Township Kohls.

WLWT tracked down Worley on Thursday.

"I don't want to talk to no news," he said.

He referred us to his attorney, Mike Allen. Allen said because the three cases are pending in court, it was too soon to discuss the case.

A Texas woman is recovering after a frightening encounter with bison in Caprock Canyons State Park, located in Briscoe County, Texas.

While hiking here, Rebecca Clark, noticed a group of bison. In a video posted to TikTok she is heard saying, “I don’t want to deal with them,” as she carefully tried to pass by without disturbing the animals.

“I just want to go by, come on, keep going…I didn’t want to go through the bushes again,” she says in the video.

The suddenly she is heard in the video screaming as at least one of the bison is heard apparently charging towards her.

Clark, while now recovering, required a helicopter evacuation as well as a stay in a hospital after she said she was gored by one of the wild animals.

Clark said in a follow up video posted to TikTok that she was able to use her phone to call for help, but laid in the national park for nearly an hour waiting to contact someone before being taken to a hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas.

She said the bison gored her and threw her into a mesquite bush.

She said she escaped the ordeal without any permanent injuries.

Two sisters from Iowa are being recognized as heroes for their quick thinking after saving two kids who fell through the ice in a pond behind an apartment building.

Fifteen-year-old Jasmine Morris and 17-year-old Jacora Morris were scrolling through TikTok when they happened to look out their third-story window at the right time.

"I immediately screamed, 'They're drowning! They're drowning!' And then me and my sister, we ran downstairs. The dog chased us. We were falling down the stairs to get back here," Jasmine said.

"I just stopped what I was doing. I just got up, and I was just running out. I was just in shoes, shorts and a tank top," Jacora said.

The Morris sisters jumped into the icy water to help the kids.

"I am numb, and those kids, they have been in there longer than me, so they have got to be numb. At some point, they were going to just stop moving. And I didn't want them to stop moving, so it was just, come on! Get them out. You can get out later, just get them out is all I was thinking," Jasmine said.

One boy was trapped underneath the ice with only a finger above the surface.

"I grabbed his middle finger and that is how I pulled him up and we got him up there. He was kind of heavy too, honey! I got him though," Jacora said.

The sisters turned into heroes in seconds.

"You could see the relief and the happiness that he was out of the water and both of them were safe," Jasmine said.

The rescue happened so quickly, medics didn't get there until it was over.

"I was amazed. Not many children would drop what they are doing, or adults, and just run out and wade into water up to their shoulders to pull two other kids out," West Des Moines EMS Division Chief Doug Harms said.

Jasmine and Jacora's mom, Jaqueline Morris, said all those years of swimming lessons paid off.

"I am very proud! I don't even have the words to say. Wow, those were my girls," Jaqueline Morris said.

Jasmine and Jacora don't want praise. They are just overjoyed at the outcome.

"I am just happy they're OK," Jasmine said.

So what did the girls learn about themselves through all this?

"That I have quick reaction skills! And when I have a sense to look up and do something, I need to look up," Jasmine said.

The city of West Des Moines plans to recognize the sisters with a lifesaving award at a later date.

A megadrought ailing the American West got even drier last year and is becoming the deepest dry spell in more than 1,200 years. A study out Monday said the megadrought is now the worst-case scenario officials and scientists worried about in the 1900s. The drought deepened so much in 2021 that it is 5% worse than the old record in the late 1500s.

Scientists compare this megadrought to what would happen in a hypothetical world without human-caused climate change. And they calculate that 42% of this drought is due to global warming from the burning of fossil fuels.

A study published in the journal Nature Climate Change found that the window of time between 2020-2021 was the driest for southwestern North America in 1,200 years.

In the study, researchers said, "Since the year 2000, southwestern North America has been unusually dry due to low precipitation totals and heat, punctuated most recently by exceptional drought in 2021."

As CNN reported, the burning of fossil fuels has been found to be directly related to water availability in the West. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that in December Los Angles experienced its second-wettest month on record, but then last month Los Angeles experienced its eight-driest January on record for the city.

CINCINNATI —

Cincinnati District 3 police responded to the 2000 block of Ferguson Road, in response to an individual shot in the head Saturday afternoon.

Police found a body outside the Walmart Superstore at 2322 Ferguson Road.

There is no information on any suspects in the shooting.

LONGMONT, Co. — On her 44 acre property tucked in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Carol Walker feeds her horses an afternoon treat.

Though Micah and Hermoso are living a sweet life, it still pains carol that they’re kept inside a fence.

"I love them both dearly, but I wish that they had stayed wild and free," she said.

A 1971 law protects wild horse numbers. However, the two adopted mustang brothers are in her care because they were captured in separate roundups by the Bureau of Land Management, the government agency tasked with keeping track of their numbers.

If there are too many, the bureau, or the BLM as it's referred to, herds them into corrals via helicopter, puts them into a long-term holding facility, examines them, and then the horses are offered for adoption.

"What the BLM is doing right now is completely against the spirit and the letter of this act, but nobody is stopping them," said Walker.

What Walker, who also photographs wild horses, is referring to is a string of recent roundups, including one ongoing right now in the southwestern corner of Wyoming. It’s a huge undertaking encompassing five different areas, and it's estimated to last weeks.

Brad Purdy, the spokesperson for the BLM, says this roundup is necessary because there are too many wild horses there for the land to sustain. However, there are voices saying that’s not necessarily the case.

Erik Molvar is an environmental biologist and director of the Western Watersheds Project, an organization that aims to improve public land management. He says the pressure that grazing done by domestic cattle and sheep is outpacing any damage to the land done by wild horses. He argues the number of wild horses the Wyoming land can sustain is actually more than the BLM’s numbers show.

"Right now, the wild horses are about four times that appropriate management and yet still the land is meeting the thriving natural ecological balance, which calls into question whether that appropriate management level has anything to do with a thriving, natural ecological balance at all, or whether what it really set at is to keep the wild horse populations low so they can have more domestic livestock out there," said Molvar.

State governments have stepped up with concern about roundups. At the end of August, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis wrote to the US Department of the interior that he is “extremely concerned” with the rate of the roundups and called for a six-month moratorium on them for the American public to weigh in.

Another issue Walker has is what happens to the horses after they're rounded up. Right now, 50,000 horses are in long-term holding, waiting to be adopted. There's an incentive program that gives up to $1,000 to anyone who adopts an untrained wild horse.

Walker is currently a plaintiff in a lawsuit against this practice, saying folks are taking the money and then selling the horses to auction where they could be killed.

"What I would ultimately like to have happen is an investigation into the BLM and to have them removed as the managers of these wild horses," she said.

Purdy said that while the area where the Wyoming round up is occurring is near private grazing land, the decision to remove horses is based solely on there being too many, saying quote, “BLM would be gathering horses regardless of the land patterns or ownership of the private lands as required by the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971.”

Walker hopes more attention is brought to this issue, the more people stand up for America's mustangs

"If people aren't standing up strongly for them, aren't fighting for them, these horses are just going to disappear," she said, "and I don't want to have a library of photos of animals that have disappeared."

Thousands of firefighters have prepared for a tougher fight against California's largest wildfire as extremely dangerous weather returns, threatening to stoke flames into explosive growth.

Firefighters were able to save homes and hold large stretches of the blaze but a red flag warning was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday because of hot, bone-dry conditions with winds up to 40 mph. That could drive flames through timber, brush and grass, especially along the northern and northeastern sides of the vast blaze.

"I think we definitely have a few hard days ahead of us," said Shannon Prather with the U.S. Forest Service.

The Dixie Fire jumped perimeter lines in a few spots Tuesday, prompting additional evacuation orders for some 15,000 people, fire officials said.

Firefighters prevented flames on Monday from reaching homes in the small Northern California community of Greenville near the Plumas National Forest as the 3-week-old fire grew to over 395 square miles across Plumas and Butte counties.

On Tuesday, spot fires jumped some of the perimeters and burned several acres of brush on the western side of the blaze, even though crews had cut back areas of unburned fuel with bulldozers and dumped some 230,000 gallons of fire retardant, said Mike Wink, a state fire operations section chief.

Heat from the flames also created a pyrocumulus cloud, a massive column of smoke that rose 30,000 feet in the air, he said.

The fire has threatened thousands of homes and destroyed 67 houses and other buildings since breaking out July 14. It was 35% contained.

About 150 miles west of California's Dixie Fire, the lightning-sparked McFarland Fire threatened remote homes along the Trinity River in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The fire was only 5% contained. It was burning fiercely through drought-stricken vegetation and had doubled in size every day, fire officials warned.

Similar risky weather was expected across Southern California, where heat advisories and warnings were issued for interior valleys, mountains and deserts for much of the week.

Heat waves and historic drought tied to climate change have made wildfires harder to fight in the American West. Scientists say climate change has made the region much warmer and drier in the past 30 years and will continue to make weather more extreme and wildfires more frequent and destructive.

More than 20,000 firefighters and support personnel were battling 97 large, active wildfires covering 2,919 square miles in 13 U.S. states, the National Interagency Fire Center said.

Montana had 25 active large blazes, followed by Idaho with 21 and Oregon with 13. California had 11.

In Hawaii, firefighters gained control over the 62-square-mile Nation Fire that forced thousands of people to evacuate over the weekend and destroyed at least two homes on the Big Island.

In southern Oregon, lightning struck parched forests hundreds of times in a 24-hour period, igniting 50 new wildfires. But firefighters and aircraft attacked the flames before they spread out of control and no homes were immediately threatened.

Meanwhile, Oregon's Bootleg Fire, the nation's largest at 647 square miles, was 84% contained and firefighters were busy mopping up hot spots and strengthening fire lines.

"Crews are working tirelessly to ensure we are as prepared as we can be for the extreme fire weather forecast for the next couple days," a U.S. Forest Service update said.

WEST YORK, Pa. —

An 8-year-old boy died following a weekend fire in York County, Pennsylvania, which officials say was caused by discarded fireworks.

Fire crews were called to the home around 11 p.m. Saturday.

West York Fire Department Assistant Chief James Hope told sister station WGAL that there was heavy fire through the roof of the home when crews arrived.

Officials said two adults and a 6-year-old boy were already out of the home, but an 8-year-old boy had to be rescued from a second-floor bedroom.

All four people were taken to a hospital, where the 8-year-old later died.

Firefighters said the fire was caused by discarded fireworks.

"It was determined that fireworks were used and set off some point during the night and discarded in a plastic recycling bin that weren't completely out. Hot embers can burn. Any little wind can make that hot ember become hot again and melt anything close, and that's what caused the fire," Hope said.

Damage to both parts of the duplex is estimated at $300,000.

The investigation continues by the West York Fire Department, West York Borough Police and the state police fire marshal.

The Red Cross was also called to the scene.
