A Pennsylvania woman recently fell victim to a voicemail scam.She just reported this scam to the Better Business Bureau.Here's what happened: She called a business and left a message requesting some concrete repair work.She thought the business returned her call by text message. The message requested photos of the project and a $50 deposit to be sent through Venmo. She did that and got another request for another $50, along with a promise to cancel the first deposit.When the texter asked for 50% of the job before the deal could be final, she called the business again.That's when she realized she was not interacting with the company, and the business' voicemail had been hacked.So as a consumer, what can you do?Confirm all contact information is correct and consistent.Avoid untraceable payment methods. Scammers often ask for payment through mobile transfer apps, wired funds and gift cards because they are difficult to track.If you sense something is wrong, don't send any money or give personal information until you can verify the number is correct.Watch the video above for the full story.
