THIS IS WLWT NEWS 5 LEADING THE WAY. THANKS FOR JOINING US THIS NOON AS WE LEAD THE WAY ON A DEVELOPING STORY. I’M KELLY RIPPIN GUNFIRE FROM AN OVERNIGHT DRIVE BY SHOOTING DOWNTOWN HAS CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A YOUNG WOMAN, A RELATIVE OF A LONG TIME ANTI-GUN VIOLENCE ADVOCATE. PASTOR PETERSON MINGO, YOU’VE LIKELY SEEN HIM HERE ON WLWT. DETAILS ABOUT HOW THIS HAPPENED. NOW STARTING TO EMERGE, YOU WANT TO CHECK IN LIVE WITH WLWT NEWS 5 JOHN LONDON AT FIFTH AND WALNUT WHERE THIS HAPPENED. JOHN, JUST A DEVASTATING SITUATION. YEAH, KIND OF A HEARTBREAKING START TO THE DAY FOR SURE, WE’RE TOLD. 18 YEAR OLD SHAMAR MINGO WHO WAS SIMPLY WAITING FOR A BUS TO TAKE HER HOME FROM WORK WHEN A DRIVE BY SHOOTING HAPPENED HERE AT FIFTH AND WALNUT. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE SCENE. ACCORDING TO A FAMILY FRIEND AND COMMUNITY ADVOCATE PASTOR IN A STATE, SHE WAS SIMPLY ON HER WAY HOME FOR GETTING OFF WORK WHEN SHE WAS HIT. SHOT IN THE CHEST. ANOTHER FEMALE, A 16 YEAR OLD, WAS GRAZED BY A BULLET. MINGO WAS THE GREAT NIECE OF PASTOR MINGO, HIS NEPHEW’S DAUGHTER. CINCINNATI POLICE SAY THE YOUNG WOMAN WAS FOUND FACE DOWN ON THE GROUND. SERGEANT PACINO AND OFFICER MELVIN TURNED HER OVER, TELLING US SHE GASPING FOR AIR AND THEY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN CPR ARE TO TRY TO KEEP HER ALIVE, DOING CPR. I MEAN, SHE SHOWS IT’S NOTHING LIKE THAT. IT’S VERY IT TAKES EVERYTHING WE GOT TO PUSH DOWN AND CHEST COMPRESSIONS FOR AT LEAST WE AT LEAST 5 MINUTES. IT REALLY BORE BOTH ME AND OTHER OFFICER DOING THOSE COMPRESSIONS TOO FAR. GOT TO. AND FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED TO TAKE OVER THE EFFORT TO TRY TO SAVE HER. WE’RE TOLD QAMAR MINGO DIED A SHORT TIME LATER AT THE HOSPITAL. POLICE ARE ASKING IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS DRIVE BY SHOOTING TO COMMENT AT THEM. THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A WHITE KIA IN CONNECTION WITH THIS HOMICIDE. REPORTING LIVE DOWNTOWN, JOHN LONDON WLWT NEWS. WELCOME. NOW, JOHN, DID THEY FIND ANY SHELL CASINGS AT THE SCENE AND THAT AREA HAS NUMEROUS SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS, VERY BUSY AREA. SO IS THERE ANY VIDEO THAT THEY CAN REVIEW? IT YET? PRESUMABLY, KELLY, THEY HAVE IT OR ARE GETTING VIDEO. YOU’RE RIGHT. THERE’S THIS IS FIFTH AND WALNUT GOVERNMENTS SQUARE IS RIGHT NEARBY. AND SO THERE ARE A LOT OF SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS AROUND. IT’S A QUESTION OF ANGLES NOW AND WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN CAPTURED. I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE’RE TOLD NO SHELL CASINGS WERE FOUND HERE AT THE SCENE. ALL RIGHT, JOHN LONDON REPORTING FOR US DOWNTOWN THIS AFTERNOON. JOHN, THANK YOU. AS THE COUNTRY CELEBRATED AMERICA’S INDEPENDENCE ON THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY, A UNIQUELY AMERICAN PROBLEM CONTINUES TO REAR ITS UGLY HEAD. MASS SHOOTINGS HIT OUR HIT AREAS RANGING FROM PHILADELPHIA TO TEXAS. AND IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL, NINE PEOPLE WERE SHOT AT A HOLIDAY GATHERING IN D.C. THEY ARE ALL EXPECTED TO SURVIVE FREE JACKSON IN WASHINGTON WITH THE PRESIDENT’S REACTION TO THIS LATEST STRING OF GUN VIOLENCE, PRESIDENT BIDEN IS ONCE AGAIN URGING CONGRESS TO STRENGTHEN GUN LAWS AFTER A SPATE OF MASS SHOOTINGS OVER THE EXTENDED JULY 4TH HOLIDAY. A VIOLENT AND DEADLY JULY 4TH WEEKEND ACROSS AMERICA. EVERYBODY OUT THERE FIRED BACK. FIVE PEOPLE WERE KILLED AND TWO CHILDREN INJURED IN PHILADELPHIA MONDAY NIGHT. POLICE ARE USING THIS SURVEILLANCE VIDEO AS PART OF THEIR INVESTIGATION. AUTHORITIES SAY THE 40 YEAR OLD SUSPECT WEARING BODY ARMOR WALKED ON THE STREET WITH AN AR 15 STYLE RIFLE AND A HANDGUN, FIRING RANDOMLY. IT JUST MAYHEM. YOU CAN’T EXPLAIN IT THE WAY IT WAS APPLIED ALL OVER THE PLACE. I HEARD A YOUNG MAN SCREAMING LIKE, HELP OUT. WELL, PLEASE HELP THESE PEOPLE WALKING BY. IT’S A DISGRACEFUL, BUT ALL TOO COMMON SITUATION IN AMERICA IN A SEPARATE, DEADLY SHOOTING. POLICE IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS, SAY THREE PEOPLE WERE KILLED, EIGHT OTHERS INJURED DURING A 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION. THAT SENSELESS MAN, YOU KNOW, YOU HAD PEOPLE COME IN TO A FAMILY ENVIRONMENT WITH GUNS AND START SHOOTING RANDOMLY DELIVERING REMARKS TO THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION. PRESIDENT BIDEN CALLED FOR IMPROVED GUN LAWS, INCLUDING A BAN ON ASSAULT WEAPONS AND HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES. CONGRESS NEEDS TO STEP UP. PASS COMMON SENSE GUN SAFETY LAWS TO PROTECT OUR KIDS AND EDUCATE. AND BY THE WAY, ARMING TEACHERS IS NOT THE ANSWER. ARMING TEACHERS, NOT THE ANSWER. NATIONWIDE, COMMUNITIES ARE SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS TO GUN VIOLENCE. PRESIDENT BIDEN IS ALSO RENEWING HIS CALL FOR LAWMAKERS TO ENACT UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND END GUN MANUFACTURERS IMMUNITY FROM LIABILITY. IN WASHINGTON, BRIDGE, JACKSON. BACK TO YOU. AND TODAY, AUTHORITIES HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SUSPECT IN MONDAY’S MASS SHOOTING IN PHILADELPHIA THAT CLAIMED FIVE LIVES. ITS 40 YEAR OLD KIM BRADY CARRIKER. HE WAS ARRAIGNED THIS MORNING ON MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING MURDER. HE WILL STAY IN JAIL AS BAIL WAS DENIED. ALL RIGHT. WE NEED TO GET A CHECK OF THE FORECAST. SOME PEOPLE GETTING BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS, OTHERS JUST TAKING THE WEEK TO COAST. WE DON’T BLAME YOU. YOU MIGHT WANT TO SPEND SOME OF THAT TIME AT A POOL BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO BE HOT. YEAH, HOT. AND HUMID. SO IT FEELS EVEN WARMER OUT THERE, WHICH IS EVEN WORSE FOR OUR REGION. AND THAT’S ALSO WHEN YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE SURE TO STAY HYDRATED BECAUSE THAT HUMIDITY CAN REALLY PULL A LOT OF THE YOU CAN REALLY BRING DOWN YOUR ENERGY AND BRING UP SOME HEALTH RISKS OUT THERE AS WE LOOK OUTSIDE. YOU ALSO WILL NOTICE SOME HAZINESS AND THAT’S NOT THIS TIME FOR A WILDFIRE SMOKE THAT IS, IN FACT, FROM THAT HUMIDITY THAT MANY OF US ARE DEALING WITH. TEMPERATURES ALREADY HERE AT NOONTIME AT 87 IN CINCINNATI, DELL HIGH, 88 IN HAMILTON AND IN OXFORD, 83 OUT THERE IN BATESVILLE AND 84 AND DRIVER, KENTUCKY. BUT AS WE LOOK AT THE DEW POINTS, WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THEM A LOT, BUT USUALLY BRINGS UP WHENEVER WE HAVE THIS HUMIDITY AROUND AND WE ARE IN THE UPPER SIXTIES AND LOWER SEVENTIES WITH DEW POINTS ANY TIME WE’RE REALLY INTO THE UPPER SIXTIES, EVEN WITH DEW POINTS THAT MEANS IT’S A VERY MUGGY FEEL. AND SO HEAT INDEX VALUES FEELING LIKE WE’RE INTO THE LOWER NINETIES, 91 IN CINCINNATI, HAMILTON 90, HARRISON 92. THE FEELS LIKE IN FLORENCE AND WE STILL HAVE MORE TO CLIMB OUT THERE FOR TODAY AS WE MAKE OUR WAY NEAR 90 DEGREES FOR ACTUAL TEMPERATURES THOUGH I HAD MY FORECAST. WE’RE TALKING MORE ABOUT THAT HEAT HUMIDITY TODAY AND WHEN MORE STORM CHANCES COULD B

Road rage over a parking spot led to a woman shot in the chest on Sunday night, according to Covington police.Investigators said the woman had serious injuries and was transported to UC Medical Center. They also told WLWT she was not in critical condition when we asked for more information about how she was doing.Meanwhile, a neighbor talked with us about what happened and shared surveillance video that captured the sound of the gunshots."It doesn't happen down here. It's pretty quiet down here for the most part but this is the most craziest that we've dealt with around here," neighbor Chad Wagner said.In five years living in the neighborhood, Wagner said he has never heard anything like what his cameras captured. His security system recorded the sound of the gunshots echoing in the 2400 block of Herman Street.Covington police said a woman was shot in the chest after an apparent road rage incident over a parking space."It's sad. Sad. People don't care. They just don't care. They think in the moment right then and there and then have to deal with the consequences later," Wagner said.Wagner told WLWT he saw what he thought were the woman's loved ones rushing to the scene worried and upset. He and other neighbors can't believe a scene like this unfolded here.Covington police immediately had one suspect detained, according to an investigator. Now, they're working to figure out what happened.Investigators said they are interviewing several people at police headquarters.Meanwhile, neighbors are feeling pretty shaken up."I'm ready to move. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I mean we've dealt with drugs and stuff, but this is, this is the straw that broke the camel's back for sure," Wagner said.Covington police said they are still looking for at least one other suspect in this incident.Anyone with information is asked to call the Covington Police Department at 859-292-2222.

<p>Covington police said a woman was shot in the chest after an apparent road rage incident over a parking space.</p>
<p>"It's sad. Sad. People don't care. They just don't care. They think in the moment right then and there and then have to deal with the consequences later," Wagner said.</p>
<p>Wagner told WLWT he saw what he thought were the woman's loved ones rushing to the scene worried and upset.</p>
<p>He and other neighbors can't believe a scene like this unfolded here.</p>
<p>Covington police immediately had one suspect detained, according to an investigator.</p>
<p>Now, they're working to figure out what happened.</p>
<p>Investigators said they are interviewing several people at police headquarters.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, neighbors are feeling pretty shaken up.</p>
<p>"I'm ready to move. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I mean we've dealt with drugs and stuff, but this is, this is the straw that broke the camel's back for sure," Wagner said.</p>
<p>Covington police said they are still looking for at least one other suspect in this incident.</p>
<p>Anyone with information is asked to call the Covington Police Department at 859-292-2222.</p>

<p>
Three victims of the shooting at Smale Riverfront Park are recovering.Police said a 17-year-old girl is in critical condition and a 16-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy are healing after they were shot in the arm.Family members told WLWT the oldest victim is in intensive care. They said she has organ damage, but also told us she is stable after ending up caught in the crossfire. We also talked with the mother of a 16-year-old who was shot."I was about to get in bed when somebody called and said, 'Ms. Katrina, your daughter's shot'. I'm like, what," Trina said.It was a phone call that changed everything for Trina. We are not using anything more than her first name and not identifying her 16-year-old daughter at their request after the shooting at Smale Riverfront Park on Sunday.Trina said she is a nurse and started considering how badly her daughter could be hurt."They said that she was shot in the arm, like, and I don't know what it could've been because, you know, me, I see it all the time. It can go through the arm and go into the chest. So, I didn't really know what was happening," Trina said.It is unbelievable, yet somehow feels predictable to this mother."I didn't want her to go down there. Specifically before, specifically for this reason. It seems like every weekend the kids convene down there and it just be a mess, like, there's all types of fights and stuff like that," she said.Trina told us her 16-year-old daughter was shot as she went to the park after a movie. She said the bullet is still inside.Police said a 15-year-old boy was shot in the arm, too.Even more concerning, officials said a 17-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the back. Her loved ones said she is in intensive care. They also said she lost a kidney and has a damaged liver, but is stable at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. They said she was not part of the fight. For these families, there is a lot to process, including a shared pain knowing some lives have been changed forever and some have been lost."There's nothing that you can say to make a person feel better about their loved one being gone. There's nothing," Trina said.Family members of the 17-year-old said she only turned 17 in May.They said she was at the park celebrating the Fourth of July with some friends.Trina said she feels children are being failed across the board, as she reflected on the shooting. She said there are issues with parenting, the school system and a lack of jobs and other opportunities to keep kids off the streets.

<p>SPRINGDALE, Ohio — In the parking lot of Dave &amp; Busters Monday night, a fight that started inside ended with gunfire. </p>
<p>The man shot was released from the hospital today, according to police, but officials haven't announced any information about a suspect or who could be responsible. </p>
<p>Before the shots were fired, the incident started with a large fight that happened inside the business. </p>
<p>"I am at Dave &amp; Busters in Springdale, there are several fights happening right now and we need the police up here in like 30 seconds," said a 911-caller to dispatch. </p>
<p>A 911-caller also said multiple people had been tased after a large fight broke out. Once the fight moved outside, to the parking lot, those calling 911 became more frantic, telling dispatchers someone had a gun. </p>
<p>"They out here shooting," said a 911-caller. "I'm gone." </p>
<p>A 37-year-old man was found by police nearby, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital but his injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening, according to police. </p>
<p>People caught up in the incident Monday night compared the shooting to recent violent incidents that have erupted this summer in other areas intended for family fun, like Kings Island. </p>
<p>"This young group, I've got news for you," said Maudine Walker, who was shopping in the area after the shooting had already happened. "Keep on walking, because guess what, your time is next. Life is not promised to you." </p>
<p>WCPO reached out to the mayor of Springdale and the Springdale Police Department, but both were unavailable to comment. </p>
<p>A spokesperson with Dave &amp; Busters said their thoughts are with those affected by Monday night's shooting. They would not comment on any safety concerns during the investigation. </p>
