The Waukesha Christmas Parade returned to downtown Waukesha Sunday one year after a driver plowed through the same event killing six people and injuring dozens more. The theme of this year's parade was Peace on Earth. There were 80 groups marching in the parade, many of which are the same that were struck by tragedy including the Waukesha Blazers baseball club, the Dancing Grannies and Catholic Communities of Waukesha. Several floats were decorated by Waukesha South High School band members and other students in honor of last year's victims. Terry Rutledge has been a part of the Waukesha community for 45 years and was in the parade last year with the Salvation Army.On Sunday, he drove a decorated plow. Emotions were running high not only for the people who performed in the parade but also for those who attended. "Last year after the parade we all came together, and it's just nice that even a year later, we're all still together, so it kind of solidified the whole community and kept us solidified for the whole year. The spirit never went away for Waukesha Strong," said Andrea Dorantes, who attended last year's parade.Santa and Mrs. Claus were the last attraction in the parade. The parade started at 4 p.m. along a new route and ended just before 5:30 p.m. It began at Cutler Park, near Maple and Wisconsin avenues. It then went east along Main Street, south on Barstow Street and ended back at Cutler Park. For some, it was an opportunity to heal. "It's a very full circle moment being back. Immediately after the events of last year I started therapy so that way I could start healing right away so this is definitely the last step in my healing process," said Joe Eisenman, who attended last year's parade. For others, like Eisenman's father, it was an opportunity to offer support. "I just went through everything that he went through last year. We weren't here but we went through it when he was here," said Chris Eisenman.The parade offered an opportunity for Waukesha to redefine its Christmas parade."Last year brought a lot of terror and a lot of confusion, but this year I honestly see nothing but happiness. That's definitely something that's different, but it's also definitely something that's amazing," said Joe Eisenman.Parade attendees created good memories to overshadow the bad ones. "We were here right in front of the Dancing Granny troop. So we saw a lot that day so it'll be good to see them back in the parade," said Dorantes.Healing Hearts of Wisconsin was on hand at Sunday's parade. The organization provides support for grieving children and their families. They had a tent sent up at Cutler Park. The group also had personnel along the parade route to provide support to those struggling.

A fatal plane crash in Watertown, Wisconsin, claimed the lives of a 73-year-old pilot and his 8-year-old grandson joining him for a flight up to northern Wisconsin.Summit View Elementary School sent a letter to inform families about the tragic loss of student Colin Strebe on June 14 due to an accident.The aircraft plunged into a grove of trees at Brandt Quirk Park near a residential area on Wednesday at approximately 9 a.m. Investigators spent much of Thursday at the site, where pieces of the wreckage were spread across the soccer field.The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were at the airport hangar to examine the evidence. According to reports from Federal Aviation Administration, the plane had just taken off from the Municipal Airport about 3 miles from the accident site. Sources say the flight was planned to Manitowish Waters.Investigators will collect as much information as they can from witnesses, and the wreckage itself, to determine, if they can, what led to this family tragedy in Watertown.Watertown police department said the Brandt Quirk Park would remain closed through the weekend for site cleanup.Police have yet to identify the victims, officially saying only that there were two victims. The pilot is from Watertown, and his grandson is from Waukesha.The FAA and National Transportation Board will lead the investigation. Instead of preparing for Christmas, a family is planning a funeral for a loved one lost during the deadly Kentucky tornadoes last weekend.Jill Monroe, 52, had just moved to Mayfield, Kentucky, a few months ago and was working at the candle factory Friday night when the tornado moved through."She had sent me a text at 9:27 Friday night that she was taking shelter in the bathroom, and that the storms were bad, and for us to stay aware here," said Heather McFuggin, Monroe's sister.Chris Chism, Monroe's son, said she texted this: "It's here. It's bad and I'm scared." He said he spent the evening texting with her, but then suddenly she stopped responding. The next few hours were spent waiting, watching and wondering what happened.Chism and his family spent hours trying to get in touch with his mother. All they knew was that she was working at the Mayfield factory, which was in the direct path of the deadly tornado.Here's how you can help the victims of the tornadoes"I called 43 times. From the moment we found out until that next morning when her phone died," Chism said.After unanswered calls and hours of waiting, Chism and his wife, Paige, hit the road Saturday morning. On the drive to Mayfield, they learned the candle factory had been leveled, but still no news about his mother."We got there and spent a couple hours at the candle factory. They wouldn't let us down close enough to really see anything, but we were there," he said.He said he eventually got in touch with his mom's co-worker and friend, and learned his mother spent her final moments helping her coworkers to safety."She said, 'The last time I saw your mom, she ran into the last stall and took a bunch of people in there with her and we all laid down and tried to hold on,' and she said that's the last time I saw her," Chism said. Sunday afternoon, Chism said the coroner's office confirmed his mother was one of the eight people who died in the candle factory."You know, you don't really ever think that anything bad is actually going to happen," he said. "It's tough. Very, very tough."More than 100 people were working on holiday candle orders when the twister leveled the facility. The company later said many employees who survived left the site and went to homes with no phone service, adding to the confusion over who was missing.Since then, all workers have been accounted for, according to state and local officials who have spoken to the company.Mayfield, which is home to 10,000 residents and the candle factory, suffered some of the worst damage in the country. The tornadoes that killed at least 88 people — 74 of them in Kentucky — cut a path of devastation from Arkansas, where a nursing home was destroyed, to Illinois, where an Amazon distribution center was heavily damaged.Monroe's family is working with the coroner to get the 52-year-old's body back to Oldham County, Kentucky. Kayden Bibb and his father Brent were doing the one thing they love to do Wednesday evening: fishing.They were fishing out in Scottsburg, Indiana. A few fish and a couple of laughs later, it was time to go home, but as Kayden attempted to cross the street to go to his father, the unthinkable happened."I was just in shock," said Brent Bibb. "I couldn't believe my little boy was just laying there, bleeding out. Multiple times we've been fishing here, and nothing like that ever happened. I never thought it would happen."Kayden was struck by a vehicle, making him airborne before landing in the water. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The person behind the wheel was a 17-year-old.Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin calls it the worst-case scenario for a parent."Who would've thought a little fishing day out with dad would cause this tragedy?" said Tina Gladden, Kayden's grandmother.Although the incident is still under investigation, Goodin said no charges are expected."We have no reason to believe whatsoever she did it on purpose," said Goodin. "We've got to figure out what happened. There is a reason why it happened, and that's why they call them crashes. They don't call them accidents anymore."For now, the family is hoping this incident serves a lesson for parents everywhere, that even on the best of days, tomorrow is never promised."He was a fun, caring, laughing, loving little boy and he was a very good fisherman," said Gladden. "We got to keep our faith in God, and we have to remember that he had better plans for Kayden than we did. That's why he took him home."The family has set up a GoFundMe for anyone interested in helping them pay for the funeral. Sheriff Goodin said the investigation is still ongoing.
