Drawing attention like a fish flopping around out of the water, a massive muskie near Lake Winnibigoshish in Cass County, Minnesota, has been reeling in the attention of tourists for more than 65 years. But put down your tackle box and tuck away your dreams of casting out to catch the 65-foot monster. "You're not going to catch this with a regular muskie lure? You're going to use a moose or a black bear for bait,” Al Hemme joked as he talked to WCCO. “And, you're going to need a truck with a winch on it to reel it in."The muskellunge in question is not actually a fish. It’s a large structure — which is also a piece of art. And it’s big. In its earlier days, it was used as a drive-up food stop — selling ice cream out of a drive-up window on the side of the fishy structure, according to Hemme, who — along with his wife, Amy —owns the muskie. The fish is located on the property of the Big Fish Supper Club. It was built in 1957 by Wayne Kumpula, according to WCCO, which reports that burgers and fries, which were cooked in the muskie's tail, were also sold inside the fish when it was a food stand. The Hemmes haven’t always owned the muskie or the namesake business. They purchased the property, which also houses a resort, in 2010. Prior to the Hemmes becoming the owners, the fish structure was on the verge of physically collapsing, but It was refurbished thanks to the help of an anonymous donor and others, according to WCCO. The muskie become somewhat of a pop culture icon over the years — having even taken a bite out of Hollywood. An image of the fish structure appeared as a postcard in “National Lampoon’s Vacation.”“There are so many people that watch that movie now, and they'll quickly take a picture of it and send it to our phones. 'Did you know?' 'Yes, we did know that,’” Amy Hemme said.Decades after it was built, the giant work of art continues to draw tourists, movie buffs and selfie-takers to the supper club and resort."I love our place. I love our people. I love watching the kids grow through the years, and they become like family. It's very, very nice,” Amy Hemme said. Those who may get a hankering to cast a line upon seeing the giant fish need not worry. According to the Big Fish Supper Club’s website, the giant fish is located “adjacent to one of Minnesota’s top walleye fishing lakes.”

Authorities in the Bahamas have revealed what caused the deaths of three Americans at a resort in May.

The Associated Press reported that carbon monoxide poisoning killed a Tennessee couple and a man from Florida.

Royal Bahamas Police Force Commissioner Paul Rolle identified the victims as 68-year-old Michael Phillips, his wife 65-year-old Robbie Phillips and 64-year-old Vincent Chiarella.

According to the AP, Chiarella's wife, Donnis, was airlifted to a hospital in Nassau before being transported to a hospital in Miami.

The news outlet reported that they were staying next to each other in separate villas in the same building at the Sandals Emerald Bay resort on Great Exuma Island.

It's unknown if there were carbon monoxide detectors in the villas, and if they were working or not, according to the AP.

The news outlet reported that the night before their bodies were discovered, police said all four went to a doctor and complained of feeling ill.

2021 is a year of comebacks. Few businesses saw bigger extremes between last year and this year than the ones that deal in summer and vacations.

What makes for a perfect summer vacation? Is it the saltwater breezes? Stretching out under palm trees and summer sun? Whatever it is, the closest most of us came to it in 2020 was in our old vacation pictures.

The pandemic brought a tough year for those who love to travel and an even tougher year for those whose whole livelihood is based around vacations.

Terilynn McQuiston is a one-woman show, a swimsuit creator propelled to do this from fandom of a certain brash feminist anthem-singing pop icon frontwoman and recent newlywed.

“I’m inspired by Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, everything SoCal,” McQuiston smiled. “She’s bold. She’s unapologetic. She’s a mom too. I’m just a girl in Nashville, so I decided to make something everyone looks good in.”

Handling it all with a sewing machine in her room, living the simple kind of life, McQuiston’s brand is even named after a track on No Doubt’s fifth album.

“Hella TL!” McQuiston said, naming her brand. “It’s a play on No Doubt’s song Hella Good. I can’t see myself not doing this. I guess you could say it’s a dream.”

When people started canceling their 2020 plans for a sweet escape, there came a hard year for this swimsuit designer.

“2020 was pretty scary,” she said. “Nobody was traveling.”

In fact, according to market research company The NPD Group, the travel accessories market nationally took a $1.8 billion loss in 2020.

“I had been working as a pattern maker for a major corporation,” said McQuiston. “They had a mass layoff, and I was one of the casualties.”

So, like a certain famous frontwoman, McQuiston went solo, focusing all her time on her own brand.

“I kept thinking in the back of my head, it’s gonna get better,” she said.

And it did.

2021 is seeing a surge in people packing up their vacation ware, with the NPD Group reporting luggage sales back to 80% of their 2019 levels. As vaccinations got underway, spending on airlines, hotels, and online travel agencies leaped up 90% between just February and March of this year. The best news belongs to McQuiston. Swimsuit sales are up 185% nationally compared to last year. They’re even up 32% over 2019.

“I have more than tripled my sales from 2020,” she said. “People are starting to get out. They’ve been vaccinated. There is nothing like having that feeling of, ‘I can do this. I can make this work.’”

McQuiston said 2020 brought lessons. Don’t speak negativity. There will be a way to reinvent and return. No doubt.
