Tiger Woods is back, competing on a golf course for the first time since a car crash that crushed his leg in February.

Woods is competing with his 12-year-old son, Charlie, in the $1 million PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes in Florida, this weekend. The tournament is a two person, 36-hole competition partnering champions with their family members.

The pair, known for their similar mannerisms from their swing to their celebrations, made a birdie putt — one stroke under par — on the first hole.

"Although it's been a long and challenging year, I am very excited to close it out by competing in the @PNCchampionship with my son Charlie," Woods said on Twitter. "I'm playing as a Dad and couldn't be more excited and proud."

A big crowd surrounded the legend as he teed off, cheering him on and welcoming him back after he was seriously injured when the Genesis SUV he was driving veered off the road in February.

On Friday, Woods and Charlie spent the day on the course ahead of the tournament.

"It was an awesome day," Woods told reporters Friday. "It was just awesome to be out here playing and be out there with my son, and we just had an absolute blast."

Woods, the winner of 82 PGA Tour titles, including 15 major championships, said he still has the hands and the feel for the game, but endurance is the biggest issue since the wreck that caused multiple fractures to his right leg.

"Unfortunately, this year has been very hard, and I hadn't been able to play at all until, I think this might be my second or third round this year. So it has been a long year."

Woods used a golf cart to get around the course Friday, which no golfer is allowed to do on the PGA tour.

"I'm a long way away from playing tournament golf," Woods said. "This is hit, hop in a cart."

The golf superstar said that after spending three months in bed, he worked every day to play again.

In an exclusive interview with Golf Digest last month, Woods said his days as a full-time golfer are over.

"Something that is realistic is playing the tour one day, never full time, ever again, but pick and choose, just like Mr. (Ben) Hogan did," Woods told interviewer Henni Koyack.

"Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that. You practice around that, and you gear yourself up for that. And you play. I think that's how I'm going to have to play it from now on."

Father and son had their tournament debut at the 2020 PNC Championship, finishing seventh with back-to-back 62s.

Justin Thomas and his father Mike seek to become the fourth duo to successfully defend the PNC Championship title after winning last year.

It's a tough road."I'm just happy to be able to go out there and watch Charlie play, or go in the backyard and have an hour or two by myself with no one talking, no music, no nothing. I just hear the birds chirping. That part I've sorely missed."Woods will be in attendance at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas this week. The 20-man tournament benefits Woods' foundation.

Golfing legend Tiger Woods posted a short video of himself taking a practice shot out on a golf course on Sunday.

Woods, who has not played in a golf tournament since his car accident in February, shared a three-second video on social media with the caption "making progress."

In the video, Woods is seen taking a swing, with a basket filled with golf balls at his side and noticeably wearing a black sleeve on his right leg.

The 15-time major champion suffered serious leg injuries in a single-vehicle rollover accident near Los Angeles on Feb. 23, when his SUV crossed a median, went across two lanes of road, then hit a tree and landed on the driver's side in the brush.

In recent months, the 45-year old has been seen in attendance at his son's golf tournament standing without crutches.

PGA Tour greats Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will pair with NFL legends Peyton Manning and Tom Brady for a charity golf event to be held on May 24.

The event will air live on TNT, TBS, Tru TV and HLN.

The event comes as the PGA Tour suspended play earlier in 2020, with a number of events postponed until later in the year.

As of now, the PGA Tour is set to resume next month.

In 2018, Mickelson competed one on one with Woods, with Mickelson winning the one-day event. This time, Mickelson and Woods will have partners.

During a media event featuring the four golfers, Mickelson showed off his trophy for winning the 2018 event. Moments later, Woods casually put his Masters Tournament “Green Jacket” on like a blanket.

“As an athlete, I miss that,” Woods said about competition as the sports world has been on hiatus for two months. “I miss watching my friends compete.”

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County sheriff says the rollover that seriously injured Tiger Woods was “purely an accident” on a downhill section of road known for crashes.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva says that stretch of road "has had quite a few accidents over the years," and that "this stretch of road is challenging," he added.

During a Facebook live press briefing Wednesday afternoon, Villanueva said there will be a cause determined for the accident, but Woods will not face a reckless driving charge.

"We don't contemplate any charges whatsoever in this crash. This remains an accident, accident is not a crime," Villanueva said.

The speed limit on that section of road is posted at 45mph, and Villanueva said "that is the maximum" and that depending on the conditions, drivers may need to go slower. The sheriff says they do not know how fast Woods was going and they hope to learn that after assessing data from the vehicle.

Tiger Woods was moved Thursday to another Los Angeles hospital after undergoing surgery to his right leg after being badly injured in a car crash.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center said Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for “continuing orthopedic care and recovery."

The hospital didn't provide any other details, saying it was respecting patient confidentiality.

“On behalf of our staff, it was an honor to provide orthopedic trauma care to one of our generation’s greatest athletes," Dr. Anish Mahajan, Harbor-UCLA's chief medical officer, said in a statement.

Woods was hurt Tuesday when a 2021 Genesis SUV he was driving on a downhill stretch of road struck a raised median in a coastal Los Angeles suburb, crossed into oncoming lanes and flipped several times.

Mahajan earlier said Woods shattered the tibia and fibula bones of his lower right leg in multiple locations. Those injuries were stabilized with a rod in the tibia. Additional injuries to the bones in the foot and ankle required screws and pins, Mahajan said in the statement released on Woods’ Twitter account late Tuesday night.

Woods was wearing a seatbelt and there wasn't any evidence that he was impaired by drugs or alcohol, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said after the crash.

However, the crash investigation continues.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center, meaning it is qualified to provide the most comprehensive surgical and other care for such injuries. Cedars-Sinai has a renowned Sports Medicine Institute that has catered to professional athletes and a rehabilitation program for sports-related and orthopedic injuries.

The wreck happened on the border between the communities of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. The county supervisor who represents the area has requested a safety review of the roadway, where cars are known to gain speed because of the steep grade and authorities have said wrecks are common.

In 2017, Woods was arrested on a DUI charge when Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car parked awkwardly on the side of the road, with its engine still running, two flat tires and a blinker flashing.

Woods said he had an unexpected reaction to pain medication. He eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving. Three weeks after the arrest, he entered a clinic for help dealing with prescription medication and a sleep disorder.

The crash this week was the latest setback for Woods, who has won 15 major championships and a record-tying 82 victories on the PGA Tour. He is among the world’s most recognizable sports figures, and at 45, even with a reduced schedule from nine previous surgeries, remains golf’s biggest draw.

He was in Los Angeles over the weekend as the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club. Monday and Tuesday had been set aside for him to give golf tips to celebrities on Discovery-owned GOLFTV.

Two days after suffering severe leg injuries in a single-car accident in California, Tiger Woods is being transferred to Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

In a statement on Twitter, Chief Medical Officer at Harbor-UCLA Dr. Anish Mahajan confirmed that the golf legend would be transferred from the level 1 trauma center where he underwent surgery following his accident on Tuesday to his new hospital about 20 miles away.

Dr. Mahajan said the 45-year-old golfer would continue to seek "orthopedic care and recovery" at Cedars.

"On behalf of our staff, it was an honor to provide orthopedic care trauma care to one of our generation's greatest athletes," Mahajan said in the statement. "Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a teaching hospital and one of only five Level 1 Trauma Centers in Los Angeles County."

According to Cedars' website, their hospital is also a level 1 trauma center.

The reason for the transfer has not been released, but Cedars-Sinai is known for its sports rehabilitation center.

Golfweek reported that Woods had a rod inserted into his lower right leg.

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. (AP) — A court document says a man found Tiger Woods unconscious after his SUV crashed in Southern California.

The document obtained Friday was written by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy seeking a search warrant to obtain data from the SUV's event recorder.

The man lives nearby, heard the crash last week, and walked to the SUV.

He told deputies Woods would not respond to questions.

The first deputy on the scene has said Woods was able to talk to him and answer basic questions.

Authorities have said Woods later told deputies he didn't remember driving or how the crash occurred.

According to The Associated Press, news of Woods being unconscious after the crash had not been disclosed previously by law enforcement.

Last week, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Woods' accident was "purely an accident."

Tiger Woods has given his first interview since he was involved in a massive car crash in February, discussing his rehab and physical therapy with Golf Digest.

The golfing legend was seriously injured after the Genesis SUV he was driving veered off the road about 26 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles around 7 a.m. on Feb. 23. Woods suffered serious leg injuries as a result of the accident and is currently in rehab.

"I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced," he told Golf Digest.

Woods did not comment when asked about his hopes of playing golf again.

"My physical therapy has been keeping me busy. I do my routines every day and am focused on my No. 1 goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time," he told Golf Digest.

The 45-year-old golfer had been rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center after the high-speed rollover crash. Woods suffered comminuted open fractures that affected his right tibia and fibula, which are the two long bones directly under the knee.

After the crash, investigators said there was no reason to believe Woods had been operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs but rather crashed while driving at ​an "unsafe speed for road conditions," according to a police report. The 22-page crash scene investigation report by the California Highway Patrol further stated that Woods was "acting in a manner consistent with someone suffering from shock due to having been involved in a major traffic collision," after the incident.

Woods' right leg "suffered traumatic injuries" and what's "still unclear is whether additional procedures will be necessary, or if Woods can expect to regain full mobility and strength in his leg," according to Golf Digest.
