And IBM is offering some of those base skills for free which may help those unemployed get back to work.

KNXV looked into these "new collar" jobs and what job seekers need to know to get hired.

As the states and country deal with historic levels of unemployment, a new career is coming to the forefront, so-called "new collar" jobs.

IBM Senior Education Manager Cliff Archey says they refer to these types of jobs as jobs of the future, but "in reality they are here now."

These are tech jobs that don't require a four-year degree, dealing with things like cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital design and more.

"Having a basic understanding of these things is going to help you no matter what it is you choose to do because being more savvy regarding cybersecurity and how to secure a network, being more user-centric and your approach to anything that you do, being agile and your project management systems that applies to a whole lot of different industries," Archey said.

IBM has launched an initiative called "Open P-Tech." It's a website aimed at offering some of those base skills for new collar workers – for free.

"We are really trying to get you to the point where you go from not having any knowledge to actually earning a baseline digital badge that's been validated by IBM. And you can do that totally for free on the site that takes anywhere from about between 6 to 12 hours to earn that. And you can add that to your LinkedIn profiles. You can add it to your resumes. So it's a really good way to just start that again career-development journey," Archey adds.

Users have to sign up for an account and pick different fields and then get to learning. Interested users can visit

But if none of those topics spark your interest there are other "new collar" jobs that don't require a degree, just some training.

Like at Silent-Aire in Chandler,-who specialize in manufacturing HVAC solutions and data center cooling systems.

Silent-Aire Vice President of U.S. Operations Brett Manning says they've been very busy.

"With people moving online for meetings and telecommuting, we've seen a tremendous uptick in demand for our product because the cloud service providers are trying to keep up with everyone moving to the cloud, whether that's for streaming video Netflix and other things or doing meetings, telecommuting."

They're hiring for 150 positions.

Manning says, "We are primarily looking for assembly positions. Anyone who's had previous experience doing construction, assembling, or manufacturing that is going to be a plus."

There are safety measures in place for workers, like temperature screenings, masks, staggered break times and social distancing. They have a virtual job fair in the works but they are hiring immediately.

U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy on Sunday said social media platforms must recognize that they played "a major role" in the spread of misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic and while they've taken some steps to fight back, it hasn't been enough."Some of them have worked to try to, you know, up promote accurate sources like the CDC and other medical sources. Others have tried to reduce the prevalence of false sources and search results," Murthy told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union." "But what I've also said to them, publicly and privately, is that it's not enough. That we are still seeing a proliferation of misinformation online. And we know that health misinformation harms people's health. It costs them their lives."Murthy's comments come on the heels of his warning last week that such misinformation is "a serious threat to public health." The Biden administration has recently turned up the heat on Facebook and other social media and technology companies amid increasing concern over misleading claims about coronavirus vaccines. On Friday, President Joe Biden charged that social media platforms like Facebook are "killing people" with misinformation, saying that "the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated."A Facebook official told CNN that the White House is looking for "scapegoats" to blame for the country missing the administration's goals. The White House had sought to have 70% of adult Americans with at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot and 160 million Americans fully vaccinated by July Fourth.Murthy doubled down Sunday on the administration's stance that the spread of health misinformation has played a key part in the slowdown in vaccinations."Here is a key thing to remember: Health misinformation takes away our freedom and our power to make decisions for us and for our families. And that's a problem," he said. "And the platforms have to recognize they played a major role in the increase in speed and scale with which misinformation is spreading."

LONDON (AP) — The world’s richest countries signed a landmark agreement Saturday committing them to confronting corporate tax avoidance and making sure that giant tech companies pay their fair share, Britain’s treasury chief said.

Rishi Sunak, chancellor of the exchequer, said finance ministers from the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations signed the pact on the second and final day of meetings in London.

“I’m delighted to announce that G-7 finance ministers today, after years of discussions, have reached a historic agreement to reform the global tax system to make it fit for the global digital age and crucially to make sure that it’s fair, so that the right companies pay the right tax in the right places,” Sunak said in a video message posted on Twitter.

The G-7 ministers agreed in principle to a global minimum tax rate of 15% for multinational companies in each country they operate in.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who attended the London meetings, said the agreement “provides tremendous momentum” towards reaching a global 15% rate that “would end the race-to-the-bottom in corporate taxation, and ensure fairness for the middle class and working people in the U.S. and around the world.”

The meeting of finance ministers came ahead of an annual summit of G-7 leaders scheduled for June 11-13 in Carbis Bay, Cornwall. The U.K. is hosting both sets of meetings because it holds the group’s rotating presidency.

The G-7 has also been facing pressure to provide vaccines for low-income countries facing new surges of COVID-19 infections and to finance projects to combat climate change.

International discussions on the tax issue gained momentum after U.S. President Joe Biden backed the idea of a global minimum 15% corporate profit tax rate. The proposal also found support among other major economies such as France and Germany.

Nations have been grappling with the question of how to deter companies from legally avoiding tax by resorting to tax havens — typically small countries that entice companies with low or zero taxes, even though the firms do little actual business there. They’ve also been trying to solve the related problem of taxing internet-based companies doing business in countries where they have no physical presence and thus pay little or no tax.

The endorsement from the G-7 could help build momentum for a deal in wider talks among more than 140 countries being held in Paris as well as a Group of 20 finance ministers meeting in Venice in July.
