Cincinnati employers prepare to implement federal vaccination, testing requirements

Part of President Joe Biden's new strategy to address the pandemic is a requirement for employers with 100+ employees to require vaccinations or require employees to be tested weekly. The requirement is expected to impact 80 million Americans.Jean-Francois Flechet is the founder of Taste of Belgium, which employs approximately 400 people and has seven full-service restaurants plus a Findlay Market location."Some people absolutely refuse to get vaccinated, so at the very least now we know that everybody will get tested weekly," he said. "So it's creating a safer environment."Flechet said it has been difficult staffing his restaurants and trying to keep them safe."The good thing is it levels the playing field, so everybody has to obey by the same rules," he said. "Before the issue was do we want to go back to mask mandate? Do we want to mandate vaccinations? Do we want to test everybody? It's difficult to do something that the restaurant across the street will choose not to do."Several major employers in greater Cincinnati have already implemented vaccine mandates or a requirement to be vaccinated or get tested weekly. Biden praised one of those companies, Tyson Foods, by name during his Thursday address.Among the list of employers who already announced mandates of some form are the City of Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Miami University and all the major hospital networks.Flechet said they will spend the coming days figuring out how to implement the new federal requirement. It is not clear who will cover the cost for unvaccinated employees to get weekly tests, but Flechet said he is willing to."I've not done the math because I'm not sure how much it will cost to buy the tests involved, but compared to the cost of shutting down a restaurant or getting somebody sick, that's something that we would figure out," he said.

CINCINNATI, great place to visit.

We are continuing our series on making plans for this new year. A great place to visit is Cincinnati Ohio. There is so much to see in this historic city. Great food and architecture. Get on a street car and enjoy going around some of the town. This city houses the Cincinnati Bengals and The Cincinnati Red at the The Great American Ball park. There are cultural things at the City Music Hall. Also wonderful museums. Camping resorts close along with affordable hotels right downtown. Also for the young and old alike, King's Island Amusement park along with a water park is close.

We are Duane and Deana Floro and are weekend warriors. We love to travel and love to share with others where we have been.
