Rodney Smith Jr., of Huntsville, Alabama, is a hard-working man. Known as "The Lawnmower Man," Smith is also a man who, last week, did an extraordinary thing.Smith loves to give back. For years, he’s been giving back to older individuals, veterans, single parents, people with disabilities, active military and first responders. When Smith, in 2017, mowed a lawn for a neighbor in need, it felt so good that he mowed another lawn, and then another – all for free. Over the last six years, Smith has traveled to all 50 states to mow lawns for free. Thousands upon thousands of lawns have been mowed. Smith's Raising Men And Women Lawn Car Service is offering a 50 Yard Challenge, which allows teens and pre-teens to be awarded a mower, a blower and a trimmer if they mow 50 lawns during their summer break. Two 11-year-olds from Gadsden, Alabama, have created TJ & JT Mowing Service. It seems the kids recently ran to the rescue of an older woman who was holding a mower in one and a walker in the other. Ja’Torrian Taylor and Tevin Rice grabbed the mower and finished the job. Their job of mowing lawns was just beginning. "I’m heading down to Gadsden right now," Smith said as soon as he heard about the boys' story. "These are good, hard-working kids that deserve some gratitude," he continued. I told Rodney that Taylor and Rice were sharing an old lawnmower that was donated to them by a neighbor."I’m going to fix that," Smith said.It was last Friday when Rodney braved the rain. TJ and JT were in awe as Rodney Smith, the Lawnmower Man, pulled up to the curb."Good morning, gentlemen," Smith said with a smile. "I’m about to make you honorary members of the 50 Yard Challenge Club!"It was quite a scene. Two young kids of modest means standing together. Out of Smith's car came two lawnmowers, two blowers and two gas trimmers."Giving these boys lawn equipment is teaching them discipline," Smith said. "If they tell someone they are going to mow a lawn, they need to mow the lawn."After teaching Taylor and Rice how to run the equipment – from gas mixtures to throttles to maintenance – Smith said goodbye."Remember, this is not the end; it’s just the beginning," Smith said as he encouraged the kids. "This could be the beginning of a successful lawn service."I asked Taylor and Rice what they thought of their new lawn equipment. They were speechless as they toweled off the equipment after raindrops fell. Smith probably won't receive national attention for his kind deed, but perhaps he should, because now it can be told: As Rodney Smith Jr. drove off into the mist, he had changed the lives of two good kids who have big dreams.Big dreams that someday might come true. Thanks to a good neighbor named the Lawnmower Man.

When Jose Fierro well opens the door to his 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX, he has to be very, very careful not to push it. I want to make sure the battery is good. He uses this device to test the battery because he relies on the cars electric to power his laptop. Mr V, as he's affectionately known, is a substitute teacher and tutor, and he's been living in this car in Fontana for a long time. It's about eight years, I think, since I started working for the District in 2013 because he's a substitute. His hours were entirely cut in the early days of the pandemic, and like many other immigrants, he sacrificed a lot to provide for his family. I couldn't possibly support my family and extended family in Mexico entrance an apartment in here at the same time with the type of income that I can that I can have. That's why that's why he lives here. Like every day I'd go out to work, were like around five in the morning. I'd see him, you know, going through his trunk, and I just felt like the need to do something about it. So Mr Weise former student Steven Nava did something about it. He created a fundraising account and shared it on social media. The goal was to pretty much make 5000. And now here we are, like six times the amount we've made today. On his 77th birthday, with a serenade from his former students, Stephen presented Mr V with a check for $27,000. Still haven't been able to to digest the entire experience. It's extraordinary. Yeah, totally unexpected. But Steven says it's been an honor. We don't appreciate these teachers enough. And that's something that we should be doing to help the man who helped mold so many students want to say Happy birthday. Thank you. Good to see him again. You made a big impact on them, that's for sure. I had no idea. Reporting in Fontana Nicole Comstock cake all my news

Jose Villaruel, known as Mr. V by his students, has been living in his 1997 Ford Thunderbird for several years. He said he lives in the car so he can provide more for his family. "I couldn't possibly support my family and extended family in Mexico and rent an apartment here at the same time with the income that I can have. That's why," Villaruel told KCAL. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the substitute teacher and tutor in California lost his hours. That inspired his former students to step in and help. "Like every day I'd go out to work around 5 a.m. and see him going through his trunk, and I just felt the need to do something about it," said Steven Nava, one of Villaruel's former students. Nava created a fundraising page that he shared on social media, with a goal of raising $5,000 for Mr. V. But instead, this week, on Villaruel's 77th birthday, Nava presented him a check for $27,000."Still haven't been able to digest the whole experience. It's extraordinary. It's totally unexpected," Villaruel said.Nava said the gesture shows the impact Villaruel and all educators have on their students."We don't appreciate these teachers enough. The staff at a Texas Papa John's Pizza recently delivered a big surprise to one of its drivers.Isaac Sanchez's car went up in flames last week after thieves tried to steal the vehicle's catalytic converter, KTRK reports. The loss of his car came at a bad time. Earlier this year, Sanchez broke his knee cap, became homeless when his hospital bills piled up and started living in his car. Not only did his coworkers set up a GoFundMe page that raised more than $7,000, but the president of Papa John's Pizza also visited the Houston store to replace Sanchez's car with his own. "I think you need it more than I do, I'd like to give you my car," company president Keith Sullins told Sanchez. "All I ask is that you let me keep the Eagles CD that's in it."Sanchez couldn't believe it. "President of the company just came out here and gave me his car," Sanchez said. "That is awesome. I'm overwhelmed really. I'm very thankful for everything that's happened."Now, Sanchez is back on the road delivering pizzas."He's such a great employee I just like to say thank you for staying with Papa John's, thank you for all you do," Sullins said.
