The Buffalo Bills blew a 17-point advantage before recovering to win Sunday. That narrow escape came less than 24 hours after the Jacksonville Jaguars overcame a 27-point deficit and pulled off one of the most stunning comeback victories in playoff history.

No lead is safe and the drama abounds so far in the NFL playoffs.

A loaded Sunday schedule saw the Bills escape with a 34-31 win over the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants upset the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 and the Cincinnati Bengals hang on to beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 as wild-card weekend continued.

One more game in the round remains: Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

All three of Sunday's games were decided in the final minutes. In the nightcap, Sam Hubbard returned Baltimore quarterback Tyler Huntley’s fumble 98 yards for a tiebreaking touchdown in the fourth quarter in a stunning turn of events that led the Bengals to their win.

Huntley tried to go over the top of the line for the go-ahead score. But he was stood up by Germaine Pratt and stripped by fellow linebacker Logan Wilson.

The ball went right to Hubbard at the 2, and the defensive end took off down the field for the longest fumble return for a touchdown in NFL postseason history. It also was the longest go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter in the postseason.

In Sunday's opener, Bills quarterback Josh Allen shrugged off a three-turnover outing by throwing two touchdown passes 3:11 apart in the third quarter. He finished 23 of 39 for 352 yards and three TDs, but also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.

Cole Beasley scored the go-ahead touchdown with a 6-yard catch, and Gabe Davis extended the lead to 34-24 with a 23-yard TD reception after Buffalo squandered its early 17-0 advantage.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones became one of the stars of wild-card weekend by leading sixth-seeded New York to its road win over No. 3 Minnesota. Jones — playing in his first playoff game — threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 78 yards in a stellar all-around performance. Saquon Barkley rushed for two scores, including the tiebreaker midway through the fourth quarter.

On Saturday, rookie Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 41-23 while the Jaguars capped their comeback by beating the Los Angeles Chargers 31-30.

The No. 1 overall seed in the AFC was claimed by Kansas City with its 31-13 win over Las Vegas in Week 18. The NFC's top spot was taken by Philadelphia. Those teams got the weekend off before playing in the divisional round next weekend.

Here are some other things to know during the postseason:

WHAT'S THE UPCOMING SCHEDULE?

MONDAY

Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 8:15 p.m. EST, ESPN/ABC

SATURDAY, JAN. 21

Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs, 4:30 p.m. EST, NBC/Peacock/Universo

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:15 p.m. EST, Fox/Fox Deportes

SUNDAY, JAN. 22

Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills, 3 p.m. EST, CBS/Paramount+

Dallas/Tampa Bay at San Francisco 49ers, 6:30 p.m. EST, Fox, Fox Deportes

WHAT'S THE FORMAT FOR PLAYOFFS?

This is the third straight year of the current playoff format, which includes the top seven teams from both the AFC and the NFC.

The four division winners in both conferences automatically get the top four seeds, regardless of record, and then the top three teams with the best record that didn't win their division are the wild-card selections. That's why it's fairly common for a wild-card selection to have a better record — but worse playoff seeding — than a team that finished as a division winner.

The No. 1-seeded team in each conference gets a bye into the second round — that's the Chiefs and Eagles — while No. 2 hosts No. 7, No. 3 hosts No. 6 and No. 4 hosts No. 5 during the wild-card weekend.

The NFL re-seeds teams after each playoff round. That means no matter how the bracket started, the lowest-seeded team will always travel to the highest-seeded team.

There are four rounds to the playoffs: The wild-card round is this weekend, the divisional round is Jan. 21-22, the conference championship games are on Jan. 29 and the Super Bowl is scheduled for Feb. 12 in Glendale, Arizona.

WHAT CHANGED WITH BILLS-BENGALS CANCELLATION?

Players and fans watched in horror on Jan. 2 as Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field at Cincinnati when his heart stopped and he received CPR before leaving the field in an ambulance. Over the next week, those same players and fans reacted with joy at news of Hamlin's recovery.

Even better news came Saturday: Hamlin visited with teammates at the Bills’ facility for the first time since being discharged from a Buffalo hospital.

A person with direct knowledge of Hamlin’s schedule confirmed to The Associated Press the player’s visit. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because Hamlin has kept his schedule and recovery private.

Hamlin's remarkable recovery has made it much easier to focus on the playoffs.

The cancellation of the Bills-Bengals game because of Hamlin's injury could lead to one big change to the AFC playoff format.

The AFC championship game would be played at a neutral site if the Chiefs and Bills reach that point under a rule adjustment approved by NFL owners last Friday. That's because Buffalo (13-3) played one fewer game than Kansas City (14-3) and missed out on a chance to earn the top seed. The Bills beat the Chiefs 24-20 on Oct. 16 and would have held the tiebreaker had the teams finished with the same record. Buffalo lost 42-36 at Kansas City in a divisional-round classic last season.

The Chiefs would host the AFC title game against any other team, including the third-seeded Bengals (12-4).

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A record 50.4 million American adults plan to bet on this year's Super Bowl, wagering a total of $16 billion, the gambling industry's national trade group predicted Tuesday.

The American Gaming Association forecasts that 1 in 5 American adults will place a bet on Sunday's NFL championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The estimate includes legal bets, and those placed with illegal bookies or casually among friends or relatives.

The total amount expected to be wagered this year is more than double the amount from last year as the legal U.S. sports betting market continues to grow.

There are three additional states offering legal sports betting this year — Kansas, Ohio and Massachusetts — compared with a year earlier, for a total of 33 states plus Washington, D.C. Maryland also added mobile sports betting in the past year, but it had in-person wagering for last year's Super Bowl.

More than half of all American adults live in a market where sports betting is legal.

“Every year, the Super Bowl serves to highlight the benefits of legal sports betting: Bettors are transitioning to the protections of the regulated market, leagues and sports media are seeing increased engagement, and legal operators are driving needed tax revenue to states across the country,” said Bill Miller, the association's president and CEO.

Hard data is backing up predictions of a record-setting betting market for this year's game. GeoComply, which handles nearly all the online betting traffic for the U.S. sports betting market to verify a customer is in a particular location where such bets are legal, says it has recorded over 550 million geolocation checks during the NFL playoffs from Jan. 14 to 29.

That's up 50% from the same period last year, and the group is predicting record-setting volume for this year's Super Bowl.

Eilers & Krejcik Gaming Research, an independent analytics firm in California, looked solely at legal bets. It predicted a total of just over $1 billion this year, led by Nevada ($155 million); New York ($111 million); Pennsylvania ($91 million); Ohio ($85 million) and New Jersey ($84 million.) Their research was not involved in the AGA predictions.

The company estimated 10 to 15% of that total would be wagered live after the game begins, and that 15 to 20% would come in the form of same-game parlays, or a combination of bets involving the same game, such as betting on the winner, the total points scored and how many passing yards Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will accumulate.

The AGA survey found bettors evenly split, with 44% backing the Chiefs and an identical percentage betting on the Eagles.

The Eagles were 1.5-point favorites as of Monday night on FanDuel, the official odds provider to The Associated Press.

There is a vast array of bets offered on the big game, from the most basic predictions of which team will win and by how many points, to wagering on the total amount of points scored in the game.

Also popular are so-called proposition or prop bets on individual player performances, like whether Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will throw two or fewer touchdown passes or how many rushing yards Eagles running back Miles Sanders will accumulate.

For the Super Bowl, these bets encompass outcomes as unusual as whether the opening coin toss will come up heads or tails; whether the final score of the game has ever happened before as the score of a past Super Bowl, and even what color of Gatorade will be dumped on the winning coach.

Four women will be part of the Navy’s Super Bowl flyover Sunday, commemorating the 50-year anniversary of women flying in the Navy.

In 1973, eight women started Naval flight school and within a year, six had earned their Wings of Gold.

Fifty years later, the Navy said its Super Bowl formation will include two F/A-18F Super Hornets from the Flying Eagle” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122, an F-35C Lightning II from the Warhawks of VFA-97, and an EA-18G Growler from the Vikings of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129.

Lt. Katie Martinez will be flying one of the VFA-122 aircraft over the stadium Sunday.

“It’s not a feeling I can even put into words,” said Martinez. “It doesn’t get bigger than the Super Bowl, and I am humbled and honored to be able to participate with my friends and fellow Naval Aviators as part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The planes arrived in Arizona on Wednesday.

The women will be part of the first all-female crew to fly over the Super Bowl. Their flyover will come during the national anthem on Sunday.

SPORTS BETTING. KATIE: A LOT OF PEOPLE -- LACEY: A LOT OF PEOPLE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF CLOSE FRIENDS SAY "I AM OVER THIS. BEEN THERE, DONE THERE, TRIED IT." GOOD LUCK TO YOU FOR THE SUPER BOWL. IT WILL BE A NICE DAY FOR THOSE WATCH PARTIES. MOST OF US WILL BE INSIDE. IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE BANKS, THE. RAIN WILL KATIE: BE GREAT THIS EVENING. From Kansas City and Philadelphia to the Super Bowl crowd in Phoenix, Arizona, football fans are ready for this year's big game between the Chiefs and the Eagles. "It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Adam Kurth, a Chiefs fan who made plans to attend the Super Bowl. With fate on their side, some fans bought their plane tickets months ago before the football season even started."We just hoped and prayed and here we go," said Stefanie Wirths, who bought her plane tickets in June 2022.While others waited until the Chiefs made it in."Our friends said, come on down, tickets showed up, and we’re on our way," said Joe Gilmartin, who's headed to Super Bowl.Philadelphia fans also found their way to Phoenix. One "die-hard" Eagles fan in particular got a surprise trip to the game. As great of a year as it's been for her favorite team, Linda Linderman is missing some of her favorite fans. Her parents both died in the last year."On my mom's death bed, I said, 'Mom, look over all of us and our Eagles,' and here we are," she said.Linda was in Arizona last week, but only because she has some family in the area and not because she had Super Bowl tickets in hand. When asked where she was going to watch the game, she said, "We're not sure yet. We're still trying to figure that out."But Linda was in for a shock: It turned out her son already had it figured out."So actually, I've already bought Eagles tickets or bought Super Bowl tickets for us. So, we're going to the game," John told her.Linda has never been to a Super Bowl. And of course, she said she would only ever want to go to one the Eagles are in."I really wanted to kind of give this experience to her. I've been going over to her house and watching the Eagles all season, every week, because I know how important it is to her," John said.A viral Chiefs fan also made the trip to Phoenix, courtesy of Lay's Potato Chips. Nicki Conrad went viral at Arrowhead Stadium while eating a potato during the AFC Divisional Round game against Jacksonville and was later named Super Bowl LVII's "Lay's Potato Girl." Two unlikely friends, one a Chiefs fan and one an Eagles fan, will be sitting together at the Super Bowl on Sunday.John Gladwell and Billy Welsh first met each other while serving together in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.Although they didn't like each other back then, that dynamic all changed when Welsh reached out on social media in desperate need of a kidney and Gladwell responded."Never in a million years would I have ever thought that dude would’ve given me a kidney,” Welsh said. After that kidney donation in October 2020, Gladwell faced his own health crisis.About a year ago, COVID-19 sent Gladwell to the hospital’s intensive care unit with stage four kidney failure. Now the two men are embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime trip together.Even though they’re rooting for different teams, their bond is now much bigger than football. Lastly, no fan was more ready for this matchup than Donna Kelce, the first mom ever to have her children face off in an NFL Super Bowl as players. The mother of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has stolen the show ahead of the big game in Arizona for her sweet interaction with her world-famous sons. This Super Bowl, mama Kelce is staying neutral. Her combined Eagles and Chiefs shoes and jersey say all you need to know."Obviously, I want each boy to do the best that they can, put it all out on the field so that they have no regrets,” Donna Kelce said. This week, Donna Kelce was in Phoenix and delivered handmade cookies to her sons while they were on stage Monday night during Super Bowl festivities.

Video above: Rihanna teases 'almost impossible' Super Bowl halftime showFrom pregame entertainment to commercial breaks and of course, the halftime show, there's a lot more to the Super Bowl than just football. Here's a look at the biggest moments from Super Bowl LVII: (All updates in ET)9:45 p.m. ET Rihanna was pregnant with her second child as she performed her Super Bowl halftime show Sunday. The singer's representative confirmed the pregnancy shortly after she ended her 13-minute set at Super Bowl 57.The baby bump that was visible in the tight clothes she wore under her baggy red jumpsuit during the show set off a wave of social media speculation that she might be pregnant again. The 34-year-old has a 9-month-old son with rapper A$AP Rocky.9:15 p.m. ET FanDuel says it is still going to give $10 million in free bets to spread among its Super Bowl bettors. In a much-hyped ad for betting site FanDuel customers, Rob Gronkowski attempted a 25-yard field goal. A voiceover said he missed the kick, but they’d still give out the free bets. But online, onlookers were confused and thought it was good.Gronk’s “Kick of Destiny” landed the gaming site plenty of free publicity for the live stunt, as well as plenty of new customers who registered to be part of the campaign.8:45 p.m. ET Rihanna was shining bright like a diamond in her Super Bowl halftime performance. She began her show hanging high above the field. She wore a puffy, bright red jumpsuit as she stood on a transparent square that moved her up and down as she hovered in the air over the turf at State Farm Stadium.Dancers wearing what looked like white ski suits moved in sync on their own suspended platforms. She and her dancers were lowered to a stage that matched her outfit, and moved in sync as she sped through two other hits, “Where Have You Been,” and “Only Girl."There were none of the instant costume changes, scene shifts or guest appearances that have been a constant at other Super Bowl halftimes. The theme — and the color scheme — stayed the same throughout her set, with red lights bathing the long stage.More of the dancers in white flooded and filled the field as the performance went on.Fireworks went off and lights sparkled from the stand as she was raised alone back into the air and sang “Diamond” — with its refrain of “shine bright like a diamond” — as the set closed. The performance was her first live event in seven years, and her first since becoming a mother nine months ago. 8:15 p.m. ET The first half of Super Bowl 57 was an action-packed doozy as the Philadelphia Eagles took a 24-14 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs.Philadelphia’s Jake Elliott made a 35-yard field goal at the halftime buzzer to put the Eagles up by 10.Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts ran for two touchdowns in the first half and also connected on a 45-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes also threw a touchdown pass and Nick Bolton returned a fumble 36 yards for another score. An important development to watch: Mahomes limped off the field late in the second quarter. The two-time NFL MVP has been fighting a badly sprained right ankle and looked like he re-aggravated the injury.7:50 p.m. ET Brittney Griner is in the crowd representing the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl.It was the third public appearance for the WNBA star since her release from a Russian prison.Griner is skipping USA Basketball's training camp in Minnesota so she can be with her wife and recover from her time abroad. She was traded in a dramatic prisoner swap in December. 7:15 p.m. ET In its first Super Bowl ad, Dunkin’ Donuts enlisted superfan Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Lopez for its spot.In the ad, Affleck mans the drive-through booth at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Medford, Massachusetts and shocks customers. Finally, Lopez comes through the drive-through and asks Ben what he’s doing. “You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends,” he says. “Grab me a glazed” she demands.Affleck has a long association with the brand, often spotted carrying Dunkin’ Donuts drinks in paparazzi photos. He directed the ad, too.6:30 p.m. ET Country musician and songwriter Chris Stapleton performed the national anthem for Super Bowl. The Super Bowl might be known for its extravagance, but the anthem was anything but fancy. All that was needed was a Stapleton’s smooth baritone voice and a guitar. Deaf actor Troy Kotsur — who won an Oscar for the movie “CODA” — signed the anthem alongside Stapleton.Eagles coach Nick Sirianni and starting center Jason Kelce both had tears in their eyes during Stapleton’s emotional performance. Before Stapleton stepped to the microphone, Grammy Award winner Babyface performed “America The Beautiful.”The series of pregame canonical songs began with “Abbot Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song that’s been dubbed the Black national anthem.Ralph, wearing a flowing red velvet gown, began the song as a reflective ballad, and it became a soaring hymn as it went on, with military-style drums joining her and a choir dressed all in white chiming in behind her.6:20 p.m. ET During the pregame pageantry, the NFL honored the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals training and medical staffs, along with the staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A minute later, Damar Hamlin joined them, putting his hands together to form a heart. He also received hugs from several of the first responders.5:40 p.m. ET Damar Hamlin has made it to the Super Bowl. The Buffalo Bills safety made his third appearance in Phoenix during Super Bowl week, this time on the field at State Farm Stadium prior to Sunday's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. It's another milestone in Hamlin's recovery. It's been a little more than a month since Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated on the field in Cincinnati. He also appeared on stage at “NFL Honors” on Thursday night after the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals training and medical staffs, along with the staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, were recognized.“My entire life, I felt like God was using me to give others hope and now with a new set of circumstances, I can say he’s doing what he’s always done,” Hamlin said from the stage at the Phoenix Convention Center. “I have a long journey ahead, a journey full of unknowns and a journey full of milestones, but it’s a lot easier to face your fears when you know your purpose.”Hamlin collapsed on the field after a collision with Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins on Jan. 2.
Video above: Rihanna teases 'almost impossible' Super Bowl halftime show

From pregame entertainment to commercial breaks and of course, the halftime show, there's a lot more to the Super Bowl than just football.

Here's a look at the biggest moments from Super Bowl LVII:

(All updates in ET)

9:45 p.m. ET

Rihanna was pregnant with her second child as she performed her Super Bowl halftime show Sunday.

The singer's representative confirmed the pregnancy shortly after she ended her 13-minute set at Super Bowl 57.

The baby bump that was visible in the tight clothes she wore under her baggy red jumpsuit during the show set off a wave of social media speculation that she might be pregnant again.

The 34-year-old has a 9-month-old son with rapper A$AP Rocky.

9:15 p.m. ET

FanDuel says it is still going to give $10 million in free bets to spread among its Super Bowl bettors.

In a much-hyped ad for betting site FanDuel customers, Rob Gronkowski attempted a 25-yard field goal. A voiceover said he missed the kick, but they’d still give out the free bets. But online, onlookers were confused and thought it was good.

Gronk’s “Kick of Destiny” landed the gaming site plenty of free publicity for the live stunt, as well as plenty of new customers who registered to be part of the campaign.

8:45 p.m. ET

Rihanna was shining bright like a diamond in her Super Bowl halftime performance.

She began her show hanging high above the field. She wore a puffy, bright red jumpsuit as she stood on a transparent square that moved her up and down as she hovered in the air over the turf at State Farm Stadium.

Dancers wearing what looked like white ski suits moved in sync on their own suspended platforms.

She and her dancers were lowered to a stage that matched her outfit, and moved in sync as she sped through two other hits, “Where Have You Been,” and “Only Girl."

There were none of the instant costume changes, scene shifts or guest appearances that have been a constant at other Super Bowl halftimes.

The theme — and the color scheme — stayed the same throughout her set, with red lights bathing the long stage.

More of the dancers in white flooded and filled the field as the performance went on.

Fireworks went off and lights sparkled from the stand as she was raised alone back into the air and sang “Diamond” — with its refrain of “shine bright like a diamond” — as the set closed.

The performance was her first live event in seven years, and her first since becoming a mother nine months ago.

8:15 p.m. ET

The first half of Super Bowl 57 was an action-packed doozy as the Philadelphia Eagles took a 24-14 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Philadelphia’s Jake Elliott made a 35-yard field goal at the halftime buzzer to put the Eagles up by 10.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts ran for two touchdowns in the first half and also connected on a 45-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes also threw a touchdown pass and Nick Bolton returned a fumble 36 yards for another score.

An important development to watch: Mahomes limped off the field late in the second quarter. The two-time NFL MVP has been fighting a badly sprained right ankle and looked like he re-aggravated the injury.

7:50 p.m. ET

Brittney Griner is in the crowd representing the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl.

It was the third public appearance for the WNBA star since her release from a Russian prison.

Griner is skipping USA Basketball's training camp in Minnesota so she can be with her wife and recover from her time abroad. She was traded in a dramatic prisoner swap in December.

7:15 p.m. ET

In its first Super Bowl ad, Dunkin’ Donuts enlisted superfan Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Lopez for its spot.

In the ad, Affleck mans the drive-through booth at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Medford, Massachusetts and shocks customers. Finally, Lopez comes through the drive-through and asks Ben what he’s doing. “You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends,” he says. “Grab me a glazed” she demands.

Affleck has a long association with the brand, often spotted carrying Dunkin’ Donuts drinks in paparazzi photos. He directed the ad, too.

6:30 p.m. ET

Country musician and songwriter Chris Stapleton performed the national anthem for Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl might be known for its extravagance, but the anthem was anything but fancy. All that was needed was a Stapleton’s smooth baritone voice and a guitar. Deaf actor Troy Kotsur — who won an Oscar for the movie “CODA” — signed the anthem alongside Stapleton.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni and starting center Jason Kelce both had tears in their eyes during Stapleton’s emotional performance.

Before Stapleton stepped to the microphone, Grammy Award winner Babyface performed “America The Beautiful.”

The series of pregame canonical songs began with “Abbot Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song that’s been dubbed the Black national anthem.

Ralph, wearing a flowing red velvet gown, began the song as a reflective ballad, and it became a soaring hymn as it went on, with military-style drums joining her and a choir dressed all in white chiming in behind her.

6:20 p.m. ET

During the pregame pageantry, the NFL honored the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals training and medical staffs, along with the staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A minute later, Damar Hamlin joined them, putting his hands together to form a heart. He also received hugs from several of the first responders.

The Nielsen company estimates that 101.1 million people watched the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl on NBC and Telemundo. That's an increase over last year's game won by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which had 92 million television viewers.

Another close finish capped a thrilling playoff season for the NFL, which had several games decided in the last minute. Nielsen said that another 11.2 million people streamed the game on their devices, giving a total viewership of 112.3 million people.

The increase defies television trends lately, where most programs are down from year to year because streaming provides extra choices and lets people control when they watch.

As Sports Illustrated reported, the halftime show averaged 103.4 million viewers, which topped last year's show by 7%. Viewership for last year's show was at 96.7 million.

The audience watching the game on Telemundo made it the largest Spanish-language NFL game ever, according to SI.

The Bengals team flew a charter plane back to Cincinnati as fans headed toward the airport for their post-Super Bowl travel back home.“We didn’t win, but at least it was a good game,” said Bengals fan Tricia Stuart as she arrived at CVG after being at the Super Bowl.“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so, I’m just glad I got a chance to see it,” said Von Craddock, who was also at the game and arrived at CVG on Monday.Mark Householder was also at the game. Even though the Bengals didn’t win, he said the trip was not a loss.“It was absolutely worth it,” Householder said. Many fans had traveled from out of state to be in Cincinnati to watch the game. “I live in Durham, North Carolina. I’m born and raised in Cincinnati,” said Morgan Andres. “There were plenty of Super Bowl parties and plenty of bars in Durham, but it just wasn’t the same as being home.”Some fans leaving CVG were not originally from Cincinnati, but are serious Bengals fans.Jason Stewart took four planes and traveled thousands of miles from Canada. It would have been closer to go to Los Angeles.“It wouldn’t have mattered if it was in my own backyard. I wouldn’t have gone to the Super Bowl. I just wanted to be here with the people,” Stewart said.

LOS ANGELES — Eminem is the latest celebrity to take a knee.

The kneeling took place during the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show after the rapper performed “Lose Yourself.”

Kneeling has become a form of protest and a source of controversy after former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick did it to protest police brutality and racial discrimination.

On Sunday, Eminem dropped to one knee with one hand over his head and held the pose for several moments.

The NFL said it was aware that the rapper was going to make the gesture.

“We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week and were aware that Eminem was going to do that,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

This is not the first time Eminem has shown support for Kaepernick’s message.

In 2017, Eminem released a four-minute freestyle rap where he called out former President Donald Trump, who was critical of Kaepernick.

Taking a knee has become a more common form of protest in the NBA, after the murder of George Floyd.

Other athletes and celebrities who have protested by kneeling include Megan Rapinoe of the National Women’s Soccer League, the Dallas Cowboys and their owner Jerry Jones, John Legend, Stevie Wonder and others.

CINCINNATI — Fans looking to get into the Super Bowl spirit will have lots of options this weekend in the Tri-State.

Fountain Square will host several events for the Bengals this weekend.

On Saturday morning, fans can join the Bengals mascot for ‘Who Dey & Friends Skate’ at 10 a.m. The Bengals mascot and friends will join families on the ice rink. Skating reservations are already fully-booked, but guests can still meet the mascots on the plaza for face painting and photo opportunities.

Saturday evening, guests can return to Fountain Square for a “Show Your Stripes” party from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy music from DJ Fuseamania and beverages from the square’s full-service bar. The event is free and open to the public.

Saturday evening, guests can return to Fountain Square for a “Show Your Stripes” party from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Fountain Square is also hosting a Super Bowl watch party on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. There will be music and free face painting.

“For those who are COVID conscious and looking for somewhere outdoor to celebrate and spread out, you know, obviously, we're an outdoor venue,” said Emily Stowe, Event Marketing Manager with 3CDC. “Bundle up, but we will have heaters. If you have children or if you're someone who's not necessarily interested in going into a packed bar and drinking all night, we do have alcohol if you're interested in drinking, but we have the ice rink and the warming tent, so we have plenty of other activities.”

You can read more information on Downtown road closures during the Super Bowl here.

Superb Owl. No wait, Super Bowl.Too late.Instead of Super Bowl information, one small typo later and your search results are filled with owl content instead. And we'd like to encourage you to lean into the error. Because owls truly are "superb."These birds are a far cry from football, but over the years the trend has gained significant popularity. So much so, that many people flood the internet with photos of owls before the Super Bowl each year. (And you know what a gathering of owls is called, right? A parliament.)This internet phenomenon puts these feathery creatures in the spotlight, which ultimately aids awareness, said Matt Williams, director of conservation with the Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy."I say anything that helps get the message out about the importance of conservation is a good thing," he said.A stone-cold predatorOwls are quite interesting. Some people think they are innocent balls of fluff, but that couldn't be further from the truth, Williams said."Owls are voracious predators that hunt mostly at night using a very keen sense of hearing to help locate their prey," he said in an email.Their disc-shaped face directs sound to their ears, which allows them to hear the quietest noises, Williams explained. Their feathers are designed to make them almost completely silent when they fly, a useful trick for sneaking up on their prey, he added. Most owls are content to feast on small mammals like mice and shrews, said Seth Magle, director of the Urban Wildlife Institute at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. Some larger owls like the great horned owl can snatch up rabbits, skunks or even other owls, Williams said.Super Bowl owl mascotsThe Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals may already have their own mascots, but there's no harm in adding some owls into the mix.Williams thought the barred owl could represent the Bengals because the birds share a similar stripe pattern to the team's helmets."For the Rams, I'd have to say the snowy owl of Harry Potter fame because their quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a wizard during their playoff run so far," he explained.Magle assigned the Eastern screech owl to the Bengals because it's found in Ohio and shares a similar color to the team. The California spotted owl would fit quite nicely with the Rams, he added."It has a four-note call sometimes described as 'hup, hoo-hoo, hooo,' which seems like it could be an audible called at the line of scrimmage," Magle said.See an owl in the wildYour experience with owls doesn't have be limited to the internet. Communities around the United States are hosting educational events about the nocturnal animals that include a nature walk.Shaver's Creek Environmental Center in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, offered a special Superb Owl event on Saturday of Super Bowl weekend. The Leslie Science & Nature Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, will host an owl event on Sunday morning. The center will have resident owls on display, and people can dissect owl pellets, which are the undigested parts of their meal that they regurgitate. Why not venture outdoors this weekend so you can get to know these fascinating creatures? It'll be a hoot. Now meet some superb owlsThere are over 250 owl species, and we'd like to introduce you to some of our favorites. Many people think all owls make a hooting noise, but that is not the case. The great gray owl does not hoot, Williams said, but rather makes a series of "hoos" in a low pitch. The short-eared owl can be found in prairies and wetlands, unlike most other owls who live in forests, Williams said.Barred owls are very vocal birds that can often be heard making the traditional hooting noise, said Charles Eldermire, Bird Cams project leader at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.Great horned owls are known for their iconic ear tufts and catlike eyes, Eldermire said. You can watch the goings-on at a great horned owl pair's nest near Savannah, Georgia, on a live cam.The burrowing owl lives its life the opposite of most owls. Rather than being active at night and living in trees, this bird spends the day awake and makes its home on the ground, Magle said.

Superb Owl. No wait, Super Bowl.

Too late.

Instead of Super Bowl information, one small typo later and your search results are filled with owl content instead. And we'd like to encourage you to lean into the error. Because owls truly are "superb."

These birds are a far cry from football, but over the years the trend has gained significant popularity. So much so, that many people flood the internet with photos of owls before the Super Bowl each year. (And you know what a gathering of owls is called, right? A parliament.)

This internet phenomenon puts these feathery creatures in the spotlight, which ultimately aids awareness, said Matt Williams, director of conservation with the Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

"I say anything that helps get the message out about the importance of conservation is a good thing," he said.

A stone-cold predator

Owls are quite interesting. Some people think they are innocent balls of fluff, but that couldn't be further from the truth, Williams said.

"Owls are voracious predators that hunt mostly at night using a very keen sense of hearing to help locate their prey," he said in an email.

Their disc-shaped face directs sound to their ears, which allows them to hear the quietest noises, Williams explained.

Some larger owls like the great horned owl can snatch up rabbits, skunks or even other owls, Williams said.

Super Bowl owl mascots

The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals may already have their own mascots, but there's no harm in adding some owls into the mix.

Williams thought the barred owl could represent the Bengals because the birds share a similar stripe pattern to the team's helmets.

"For the Rams, I'd have to say the snowy owl of Harry Potter fame because their quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a wizard during their playoff run so far," he explained.

Magle assigned the Eastern screech owl to the Bengals because it's found in Ohio and shares a similar color to the team.

The California spotted owl would fit quite nicely with the Rams, he added.

"It has a four-note call sometimes described as 'hup, hoo-hoo, hooo,' which seems like it could be an audible called at the line of scrimmage," Magle said.

See an owl in the wild

Your experience with owls doesn't have be limited to the internet. Communities around the United States are hosting educational events about the nocturnal animals that include a nature walk.

Shaver's Creek Environmental Center in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, offered a special Superb Owl event on Saturday of Super Bowl weekend.

Now meet some superb owls

There are over 250 owl species, and we'd like to introduce you to some of our favorites.

Many people think all owls make a hooting noise, but that is not the case. The great gray owl does not hoot, Williams said, but rather makes a series of "hoos" in a low pitch.

The short-eared owl can be found in prairies and wetlands, unlike most other owls who live in forests, Williams said.

Barred owls are very vocal birds that can often be heard making the traditional hooting noise, said Charles Eldermire, Bird Cams project leader at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Great horned owls are known for their iconic ear tufts and catlike eyes, Eldermire said. You can watch the goings-on at a great horned owl pair's nest near Savannah, Georgia, on a live cam.

The burrowing owl lives its life the opposite of most owls. Rather than being active at night and living in trees, this bird spends the day awake and makes its home on the ground, Magle said.

After the Bengals AFC Championship Game win, everyone was wondering if C.J. Uzomah would be playing in the Super Bowl following his knee injury. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that Uzomah is on track to play in the Super Bowl on Sunday and that’s also the case for every other player on the active roster.Uzomah sprained his MCL during the AFC Championship Game and was unable to practice until Thursday this week. According to the Bengals injury report, Uzomah was a full participant in practice on Friday, but is still listed as questionable. Guard Jackson Carman was the only other Bengals player to have anything less than full practice participation this week. He was limited Wednesday before going full the last two days, but Zac Taylor has not said whether he or Hakeem Adenjii will be starting at right guard on Sunday.Defensive end Cam Sample, defensive tackle Josh Tupou and wide receiver Stanley Morgan were on the list this week. All three players are considered healthy enough to play this weekend.Something notable to point out is that if the Bengals don't call up a tight end from the practice squad, then it's most certain that C.J. Uzomah will be playing in the big game on Sunday.

Former Cincinnati Bengal, Andrew Whitworth received the prestigious 2021 Walter Payton Man of the Year award. NFL description of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award:Considered the league's most prestigious honor, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide recognizes NFL players who have exhibited excellence on the field, and whose passion to impact lives extends beyond the game.Although Whitworth is now a member of the Los Angeles Rams, his acceptance speech hit close to home as he recalled a moment during this season when a fellow player spoke about how much his work in Cincinnati meant to him. The offensive-tackle said that rookie Derrick Barnes, a linebacker for the Detroit Lions and a Covington native, spoke about the time Whitworth spent at the local Boys & Girls Club when he was a young player in Cincinnati. "He said, 'Hey man, you're not going to remember me...you spent time with me when you were a young player in Cincinnati at the Boys & Girls Club, and it meant the world to me,'" Whitworth recounted. "He goes, 'You know what, the main thing I wanted to say, Whit, I made it. I made it to the NFL, Big Whit.'"Barnes was sitting in the crowd during Whitworth's acceptance speech."On that Tuesday off day, when every guy that's sitting in this room knows I'd rather be at home, I made an investment in him — and I didn't even know it," Whitworth said. "None of us know when the moment's going to present itself. The key is to always be available when it does." Whitworth, the oldest offensive tackle to ever play in an NFL game at 40, will face off against his former team in the Super Bowl on Sunday. After 11 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Whitworth said his family will always love Cincinnati and support the team and he's happy that they have finally reached the Super Bowl. After the Ram's NFC Championship Game win, Whitworth said "It's really cool and really special, having a relationship with a lot of the staff over there and some players. The city is a special place to us. I told Zac Taylor (the Bengals head coach) this when we spoke after the conference championship games that both places have my heart and people I believe in. It's really special to play in this game and to play against a that means so much to me."To watch Andrew Whitworth's Walter Payton Man of the Year acceptance speech, click here.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The president and first lady’s puppy Commander will appear in a Puppy Bowl ad this week.

The Puppy Bowl airs on Super Bowl Sunday at 2 p.m. EST on Animal Planet.

The German Shepard will appear with first lady Jill Biden in a video about the joy having a pet.

The first lady’s office released the video ahead of the big game.

In it, Dr. Biden and Commander play fetch with a tennis ball.

“What’s so wonderful about having pets is that they bring us unconditional love, joy and comfort every day,” said Dr. Biden in the video. The first lady also appeared in a Puppy Bowl commercial last year, with the first family’s German shepherds Champ and Major.

In the video, she encouraged people to wear a mask.

Champ died in 2021.

Major now lives in Delaware after behaving aggressively at the White House.

Commander is only five months old.

He joined the first family in December 2021.

As preparations for a huge Super Bowl at Los Angeles' record-breaking SoFi stadium continue ahead of the big event, the stadium is creating an interesting challenge for residents in Inglewood, California.

SoFi Stadium, not far from Los Angeles International Airport, will possibly give some local residents an opportunity to make some money charging fans for parking at their nearby homes. As Sports Illustrated reported, some residents said they might try to charge fans up to $1,000 a car to park in their yards before going to the stadium for the event. Residents say that traffic has increased in the area as well.

Another challenge could be the weather. As NBC reported, the area could experience unseasonable heat during the game, which will be felt by fans as the now-iconic SoFi stadium is the first open-air, indoor-outdoor venue for the NFL.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Los Angeles County that will last from Wednesday through Sunday evening. The service warned of an increased risk of heat-related illnesses.

Security will be a major focus for police as the event nears. Authorities said this week there were no known security threats to the Super Bowl yet. Officials on Tuesday outlined the coordinated law enforcement effort to keep those at the game at SoFi Stadium and the Los Angeles region safe. They say fans attending the game can expect an enormous police presence at the stadium, which will have a tightly monitored security perimeter.

Meanwhile, patrol officers, tactical teams, K-9 units and paramedics will be deployed across Los Angeles County.

The stadium covers 3.1 million square feet making it the largest for the National Football League. It is the first football stadium to be built within Los Angeles in nearly 100 years.

Fred Roggin, a long-time Los Angeles-based sports anchor for NBC said, “What does this mean for Los Angeles? It’s huge!” Roggin told the Los Angeles Times, “This Super Bowl is an enormous event, not only for the city of Los Angeles but for the return of football to L.A. with the Rams. When Stan Kroenke [the owner of the Rams] decided to come back and build that stadium, his dream and hope was that the Rams would be in the first Super Bowl in L.A.”

The Withrow University High School Tigers bleed orange and black, whether that means cheering on the varsity football team to its first playoff win in school history or rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56. The school held a pep rally for students Wednesday afternoon. "The city needs this, our high school needs this, Cincinnati Public Schools needs this," said school principal Jerron Gray. "This is a tremendous outlet to have our kids celebrate our Super Bowl-bound Cincinnati Bengals."Students got to meet and interact with a special guest Wednesday. Former Bengal and UC Bearcat Artrell Hawkins. He said all former players share a special bond, and he's loving watching the team rise to greatness."We may not be teammates, but we're forever connected. Somebody had to go through the wilderness. That was us, my group. We went through the wilderness and the promise is here," Hawkins said. "I'm happy for the team, for the ownership. I'm really happy that the city gets to experience some success."He said he has enjoyed seeing the entire city energized by the Bengals."I mean honestly, I never thought I'd see it," Hawkins said. "It's my true belief that they found a solid quarterback in Joe Burrow. The next 10 years you could see two, three, four of them."The football players were the most excited students in the gym during the pep rally."It's like a dream come true cause it's our own city. It's different. It feels good to have our own city around us winning," said senior defensive back Artrimus Sartor, who was part of the fall 2021 team that won the school's first playoff game. "That's why we're rooting for them so hard. We're just like the Bengals," Sartor said. "We feel like we're at the Super Bowl and our season's been over... It lets you know that it's possible. Anything is possible."Cincinnati Public Schools canceled classes Monday in anticipation of celebrating a Super Bowl win.

LOS ANGELES — The weather at this Sunday’s Super Bowl game is expected to be unseasonably hot.

A rare wintertime heat advisory was issued for California.

Temperatures during game time could reach 90 degrees Sunday.

High temperatures in Los Angeles during this time of year are usually in the mid-60s.

Players and spectators likely won’t feel the full force of the heat inside SoFi Stadium because the indoor-outdoor arena is able to maintain a controlled temperature.

Still, the National Weather Service is advising people to take precautions, including drinking plenty of water and wearing lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.

The high temperatures are expected to set a record for the warmest day ever on which the big game has been played.

Don Everett is a Cincinnati Bengals fan determined to take as much Who Dey spirit with him as possible when he leaves Cincinnati in a couple days and returns to his adopted hometown near Denver."I got a local bar in Parker, Colorado, that has turned out to be a Cincinnati Super Bowl bar for this one," Everett said. The bar's owner asked Everett, in the Queen City on a business trip, to bring back whatever he can to make Sunday's showdown against the Los Angeles Rams special."The bar is, like, bring me all the jerseys, bring me all the decorations, bring everything you can bring me," Everett said. That's turned out to be a tall order."We got here on Saturday. You couldn’t find anything," Everett said.Finding food for the perfect party can also be a challenge."It seems like everyone ran out of everything on Super Bowl week," Victor Visciani said. "Probably because everyone's ordering everything on Super Bowl week."Visciani helps run the Holy Grail at The Banks. He said demand for staples like chicken wings means restaurant and bar owners have had to adapt."We've had to go with different food options that we didn't go with before, things like that," Visciani said. "So you can find a way around it. It's just a little bit harder than it has been in the past and especially during Super Bowl week."The fact businesses are being forced to adapt comes as no surprise to Chuck Sox, who studies supply chains in his role at the University of Cincinnati's Lindner College of Business."It's concentrated in Cincinnati, in particular, this year, for obvious reasons," Sox said. "Your local store might run out of your favorite brand of beer or might run out of chicken wings. So, you know, it's just important for us to get out early and shop around, see what we can find."Fortunately, Sox said from an industry standpoint the nation's supply chain is improving and that in-demand food items are generally available. But he said local lines of supply could remain tight since so many Bengals fans are in the market for so many similar items.

The Cincinnati Bengals are one week away from playing in the Super Bowl after 33 years. The Bengals have been to the big game twice already, but have yet to bring home the Vince Lombardi Trophy, now's their chance. As we prepare for the Super Bowl, here are some interesting facts about the two teams before the game: The Super Bowl match-up between the Bengals and Rams marks the first time these teams have met in a championship. Both the Rams and Bengals originated in Ohio. The Cleveland Rams were founded in 1936. They competed in the AFL for their inaugural season before moving to the NFL in 1937. The Rams stayed in Cleveland through 1945, winning the NFL Championship Game before relocating to Los Angeles one month later. This is the Bengals first Super Bowl appearance since 1988, when they lost to the 49ers, 20-16. The Bengals have appeared in three Super Bowls total, including this one. Evan McPherson is the leg that saved the day in the last two Bengals games. The kicker is quickly becoming a fan favorite. There's one man within the Bengals organization you can thank for bringing McPherson to Cincinnati.Darrin Simmons has been a coach with the Bengals for 19 years. The assistant head coach and special teams coordinator knew McPherson was special when he went down to Florida to watch him work out.Incredibly, the kicker should be a college senior. But the young gun has brought his brand of confidence to the NFL. It's been a quick change of scenery for Simmons — from the sidelines of Arrowhead Stadium to his couch at home in Mason. The special teams coordinator is heading to the Super Bowl for the first time after nearly two decades in orange and black."It was pretty special. After being here 19 years, during some up seasons, some down seasons, yesterday was about as good as it could get for us," he said.He can take partial credit for helping bring on one of the breakout stars of this season.Simmons has been impressed with McPherson from the moment he watched his tape."He's exceeded my expectations. Not to say my expectations were low. My expectations were extremely high. But after watching him in that workout. I knew we had a chance to get a good one," he said. After witnessing what he could do in person, Simmons pushed to add McPherson to their roster."There had been some games we had missed some important field goals down the stretch, and I felt good about what Evan could bring mentally, not just physically," he said.McPherson is responsible for clinching the past two Bengals victories with last-second field goals.Simmons said even with the post-season on the line, McPherson has ice in his veins. "Even before the Kansas City game, we went and talked for two seconds before he went out to kick, and I think if you put a heart monitor on him, I think his blood pressure would be the same from a preseason extra point to that game winner we had the other night," Simmons said. The whole team buys into his air of confidence. The rookie is cool, calm and coming through in the clutch."I was not nervous one bit. I knew he was going to make it. I was just ready to go celebrate," Simmons said.McPherson has earned nicknames like "Money Mac."He famously told the Bengals bench, "We're going to the AFC Championship," before nailing the game-winning field goal against the Titans."As long as he keeps making kicks, I don't care what they call him," Simmons said.Simmons said it's back to work on Tuesday, and their goal is to keep McPherson's routine as normal as possible.
