A family moving to Kansas is hoping for help after somebody stole their U-Haul truck and trailer full of irreplaceable family memories. Kathleen Scott and her son Zack are moving to Kansas from Chicago. They said they packed all their most meaningful items into the two U-Hauls. Their furniture and other items are in a semi-truck with the movers. She said they left the hotel to run errands for an hour and when they came back, their U-Hauls were gone. “All of the memorabilia of my late husband, like all the photo albums and the videotapes, all that stuff was in there,” Kathleen Scott said. She said her wedding photos were also inside the truck.“Just a lot of old toys from growing up that I wish to share with my kids one day, like football cards, old Legos, things like that that I’ve been keeping for years and years that I can hopefully play with my kids with someday,” Zack Scott said. The U-Haul truck has a green dinosaur on the side and Arizona license plates. They said they hope they can at least get the memorabilia back.“We couldn’t care less about the entire contents of our kitchen. I don’t care. That’s replaceable,” Kathleen Scott said. “What’s irreplaceable are the memories and the things like the locket my husband gave me the last Mother’s Day before he died. It’s engraved and it says mom and it has a picture of Zach and his sister in it.”She said most of the items have no value to anyone else besides her family. She said she hopes her story will help warn people to be extra careful with their moving trucks. “I just hope other people don’t have to go through this and maybe if a couple people see this and they warn people they know that are moving then this won’t happen to them,” Kathleen Scott said.“If nothing else comes from this, I would just hope we're the last family they do it to,” Zack Scott said. “Obviously, we would like to have our stuff back, but at the end of the day if we’re the last people we do it to, then some good will come from it.”

This is an ancient artifact unearthed in Central Israel, experts say it was made by the Canaanites and they recently found traces of opium within it. The vessel was first discovered way back in 2012 near grave sites, but *** recent analysis of its former contents has revealed traces of the drug. The archaeologists say they believe the vessel likely held distilled opium meant to be poured and mixed with other liquids. Historians believe it may have been used by priests presiding over burial rituals where they would drink the opium and enter what they call an ecstatic state. This would explain whether vessels were found near graves with Israel Antiquities Authority Ron Beery saying about the find. The significance is that if these vessels really contained opium, it indicates how popular this product was and how much it was consumed during this period. The artifacts are from the 14th century Bc, meaning this is likely the first known evidence of opium is use as *** drug ever discovered. Traces of other historical drugs have been found in Israel previously, after an eighth century Bc shrine was discovered in 2020 with trace amounts of cannabis present on it

A 1,000-year-old manuscript looted during World War I has been returned to the Greek monastery from where it was stolen more than a century ago.The manuscript is one of the oldest handwritten gospels in the world, according to a news release from the Museum of the Bible, which acquired it in 2014.The document was written in a Greek monastery in southern Italy during the late 10th to early 11th centuries, says the Museum of the Bible. But sometime between the 14th and 15th centuries, it moved to the Kosinitza Monastery, also known as the Theotokos Eikosiphoinissa Monastery, in northern Greece. When the Bulgarian Army invaded Greece during World War I, soldiers looted the monastery, stealing over 400 precious manuscripts as well as other books, objects, and cash. Some of the manuscripts were sold in Europe -- and eventually ended up in American museums. The Eikosiphoinissa Manuscript 220 was sold by Christie's in 2011, says the museum, and then purchased by the Green Collection of Oklahoma City, which donated it to the Museum of the Bible. In 2015, the Greek Orthodox Church had asked several American institutions that held manuscripts from Kosinitza to voluntarily return them to the monastery. The museum started researching its Greek New Testament manuscripts in 2019, leading scholars to realize the document had been stolen from the Kosinitza Monastery. And in 2020 the museum reached out to Eastern Orthodox leaders to express its desire to return the manuscript. The manuscript was finally returned to the monastery in a formal ceremony on Thursday, says a joint statement from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Museum of the Bible."When the Museum of the Bible discovered that this text was illegally and rapaciously taken from the Monastery, it moved quickly, responsibly and professionally to see to its restoration and repatriation," said Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, who represented His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during the return ceremony, according to the statement."We cannot express enough our gratitude to the Green Family and the Museum for their Christian and professional service," he said. "You have set an example for others to follow, and we pray that they do."Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the leader of the Eastern Orthodox church, loaned three other manuscripts to the Museum of the Bible as a "gesture of gratitude for the gospel manuscript's return," says the statement.George Tsougarakis, general counsel at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, told CNN that he hopes the return prompts other institutions to return manuscripts stolen during the Bulgarian invasion.Repatriation is "recognition of the inequities and the injustice that these areas went through back then, which led to the removal of these priceless artifacts," he said. "And it's a way of, sort of making the world right again."He noted that copies of the manuscript can allow academics to continue to study it from afar. But for the monks who venerate the manuscript, the physical document represents a powerful connection to the monks who came before them and to the religious tradition itself."There is something to say about touch," Tsougarakis said. The ability for the monks to say, "'I touched the page that my predecessor touched' -- it means something, it's a community."And the Museum of the Bible has set a compelling example for other institutions that have manuscripts stolen from Kosinitza, he added."We urge them to do the right thing," he said. "There's only one right answer here. And we hope that they follow suit."

GOOD EVENING TO YOU, ELIZABETH, DEAR. WELL, YES. AFTER OUR STORY AIRED FIVE DAYS AGO, THE E-MAILS AND THE CALL JUST CAME POURING INTO OUR NEWSROOM. SO FAR, THE MOM HAS RAISED OVER $10,000 IN DONATIONS. AND THAT’S NOT TO MENTION ALL OF THE TOYS SHE’S RECEIVED, HER FOUR YEAR OLD SAID. TODAY, THE IS JUST THANKFUL. IT IS COMPLETELY RESTORED. ABOUT $1,000 WORTH OF PRESENTS FOR HER SON WERE IN THE TRUNK. SHE DOES NOT WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED BECAUSE AS A CRIME VICTIM, SHE’S STILL SHAKEN UP. The community stepped in to help after a woman's vehicle was stolen. Inside the trunk, about $1,000 worth of presents for her 4-year-old son. Since sister station WDSU exclusively interviewed the mom last Friday, she has already received over $10,000 in donations, and that's not to mention all the toys she received from the community. Including former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and Toys for Tots. The woman did not want to be identified because of safety concerns but said this in response to all the donations:"What do you say besides 'thank you, thank you!' Thank you for helping me to make my son's Christmas. It'll probably be the best Christmas he'll ever have."It was last Wednesday when police confirmed a Kia Sportage had been stolen from in front of a home. The car was found hours later. The mom said in addition to using the money for a down payment on a new car, she will also use some money to move her son into a safer neighborhood. The suspects are still at large for the car theft that took place on Dec. 14.Watch the video above for the full story.

Along the railroad tracks in Jensen Beach, Florida, you may find pieces of a black Honda Fit.The vehicle, which belongs to Joe William Ceballos, was stolen early Saturday morning, struck by a train and ended up resting on the side of a house."I thought it was a movie," Ceballos said. Ceballos said he moved to Florida from Georgia to start a cleaning service business called Casey's Cleaning, and that car was a work vehicle. He said when he got a call from his business partner and the homeowner letting him know the car had been stolen. He couldn't believe it."They are saying someone stole the car, and I said, 'That's impossible because it's at the business,'" Ceballos said. "Then when she sends me the picture of the car flipped at the owner's house, I'm like, 'Oh my God!'" He also couldn't believe how it happened."He says he took the car," Ceballos said. "In good faith to find his car."According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Bradford Weitzel of Port St. Lucie told detectives he couldn't find his car after leaving a bar, so he stole one in an effort to locate his own.The car somehow suddenly stopped on the train tracks and David Deoliveira, who was at home in bed at the time, heard the commotion and went outside to help."How does a guy get from the crossing to the actual tracks?" Deoliveira said. "I went over there to try to help the guy to see if he needed help, but unfortunately, I can't really help do much." Soon after, a train started heading their way and they left the car. No one was injured. Officials report that Weitzel continued on to a nearby fruit stand, where he vandalized the business. They say he also attempted to steal a forklift.Weitzel eventually flagged down authorities to inform them he was in search of his car.Deputies arrested and charged Weitzel with grand theft and criminal mischief. Additional charges are expected.Ceballos said the Honda was a total loss, and the supplies inside the car are gone, but he still plans to move forward with his cleaning business.

While some were shopping for their Christmas gifts this year, others were stealing. In fact, you could say this is the story of a real-life Grinch.Les Fetrow and his wife, Margaret, have been making handmade wooden toys for nearly 20 years.Their creations are sturdily constructed, beautifully crafted and some of them are even signed. But what remains in their Wasilla, Alaska, workshop is just a tiny fraction of their inventory. Most of it was stolen last weekend."That darn Grinch stole our Christmas," Margaret said. The couple had finished their sales at a craft fair in Anchorage. They packed everything up into a rented U-Haul and stayed overnight in an Anchorage hotel."Monday morning when I got up to go out there and get the truck started... that's when I discovered it was gone, just like that," Les said.About $17,000 worth of toys were stolen, and that doesn't include the tools or display items that were taken as well. Sadly, it's put an early end to the Fetrow's craft fair season."They like our toys, and they want us to be there. But we can't," Margaret said. The couple says it could be a year or even two before they can replace all their toys. They have a plea for the person who took their truck."Please bring them back, it's our livelihood," Margaret said. They say the loss isn't their's alone. On Christmas morning, there will be lots of children who are missing out on the toys as well. The Fetrows say all they want is to get their toys and their tools back, and they're hoping the police will come up with some leads. But they are also asking people to keep their eyes open in case any of their prized toys turn up for sale.

WLWT viewers gave from their hearts, and it's making a difference. This week, WLWT introduced you to Randy Bowling of Hamilton. Bowling is disabled, and his bicycle is his only form of transportation to and from work at Walmart in Fairfield Township.Last weekend, his bicycle was stolen."Your news story was barely over on the TV. I was watching it when my phone started ringing," said David Hood, executive director of Serve City. "I knew immediately this had struck a cord ... That line that Randy said, 'This made my life harder,' it was the big thing that struck me, and I think people heard that and said this is not OK. We need to do something." Serve City is the organization that owns the apartments where Bowling lives.Knowing Bowling was taken care of thanks to generous gifts from WLWT viewers, Hood created a way for people to help others like Bowling."This is probably not the first time this has happened, and unfortunately, might not be the last time it happens, and so we are setting up a fund called a 'Bike Matching Fund,' Hood said. They're collecting bicycles, or preferably money, to offer residents as a matching fund."So, if they're able to come up with $50, we'll match $50 dollars for them to get a bike," Hood said. "Bikes around here are a major source of transportation for employment, for doctors appointments, for therapy, for addiction recovery, all of those things, getting around to those things are critical to our residents." With his laces tied tightly, Randy Bowling said he's ready to walk to work if he has to.The nearly four-mile trek each way — from his apartment in Hamilton to Walmart in Fairfield Township — isn't ideal for the 50-year-old, who is also disabled. Bowling suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was 16.That's one of the reasons he bought a $157 bicycle a few months ago."It's the first bike I ever bought myself," Bowling said. He was proud of it. Now, it's gone.It was stolen from outside Party Mart Express in Hamilton Saturday night.Store security video shows Bowling walking his bike close to the front doors after his shift at Walmart. He's in the East Avenue store for less than a minute before a man rides up on another bike, grabs Bowling's bicycle and rides off with it.Bowling walks out in disbelief."He's made my life harder," Bowling said. Bowling lives alone at the Serve City apartments. He said he needs his job to pay bills, and the bus isn't always an option."When we had heard, it just broke our hearts. Our residents struggle with so many other life issues, to have something like this happen is a real challenge," said David Hood, executive director of Serve City. Neighbor Brenda Stevens called what happened unacceptable in her neighborhood."It's just aggravating. I don't know why people do it. It's selfish," Stevens said.Other neighbors have expressed frustration and support."There's a lot of people that care. If I had a bike, I'd give it to him," said neighbor Andrew Yeager. Bowling said even though he should be angry, he'd rather talk to the guy who snatched his bike and help him get a job.

The Hamilton County sheriff's cruiser and gun were stolen right out of her driveway.Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said the car was locked and the alarm was set.According to a spokeswoman for the sheriff, the car was not damaged. How this even happened is still leaving a lot of people scratching their heads. The sheriff said she cannot explain it, and said the car is brand-new and uses a key fob.For community leaders, this is a prime example that crime can come knocking at anyone's door."If it could happen to the sheriff, it could happen to anybody. Let's be real," State Sen. Cecil Thomas said.Thomas has been pushing a strong message for people to stop leaving guns in their cars, making them easy to grab and go.Now, McGuffey is trying to figure out who stole her 9-millimeter service weapon and her county-issued vehicle Saturday morning. We talked with McGuffey by phone as she is in Arizona at a sheriff's convention this weekend."I had gone out to a barricaded individual out in Symmes Township. So, you know, when I got home, I locked up the car because it was just, yeah, I secured it in the vehicle and locked the car in my own driveway and got busy with something else I had to put my attention to," McGuffey said. "The next morning is when I discovered the vehicle had been stolen right out of my driveway."She said the cruiser was stolen in Columbia Tusculum and found in the Winton Terrace area on Saturday afternoon. The gun was gone, according to officials. McGuffey would not specify where the gun was stored in the car."I don't think by far, I'm the first police officer to have secured their weapon in their car, in their driveway. We have deputies that have shotguns and various things like that secured in their vehicles because they are subject to call-outs and things like that. So, I do not find that unusual. No, I don't," she said.Investigators are examining whether this may have been a key fob hacking situation, like we've reported on in the past, which allows crooks to get into cars."I hope the person who did this, whoever it was or whoever they are, will come to realize that this is not the way you should live and it's certainly not what you should do to your fellow people," McGuffey said. Now, another gun is on the streets.Thomas hopes it is found before it can be used to hurt someone."Guns are getting out here and one of the ways it's getting it, is these, breaking in cars," he said. The sheriff said a few of her personal items were stolen.McGuffey expects there will be protocol changes after this incident. She said this entire encounter makes her a human being and a victim of crime.Officials said the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section is handling the investigation.Thomas said when out in public places where you need to store your gun, you should put it in the trunk of your car and in a locked compartment, if possible. He also said trigger guard locks can make it difficult for anyone to use a gun they steal.
