At least two students were injured Monday morning in a shooting inside a St. Louis high school. The shooting was reported just after 9 a.m. at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School, prompting hundreds of students, faculty and staff to leave the building, many of them running. The school was immediately surrounded by dozens of police vehicles.St. Louis Public Schools said on Twitter that the shooter was "quickly stopped" by police. A tweet from the police department said the shooter was in custody. No further details about the shooter were immediately released. The FBI said in a statement later Monday morning that there was no longer an "immediate threat" at the school. The district said the injured students were on the way to a hospital but did not indicate how badly they were injured. One student, 16-year-old Taniya Gholston, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch she was in a room when the shooter entered."All I heard was two shots and he came in there with a gun," Gholston said. "And I was trying to run and I couldn't run. Me and him made eye contact but I made it out because his gun got jammed. But we saw blood on the floor."TV reports said officers entered the area with guns drawn shortly after 9 a.m. Crime tape was placed around the school and some parents arrived to pick up kids and check on their safety. The district, in a tweet, said students could be picked up at another school building or a nearby grocery store.Central Visual and Performing Arts High School is a magnet school specializing in visual art, musical art and performing art. The district website says the school's "educational program is designed to create a nurturing environment where students receive a quality academic and artistic education that prepares them to compete successfully at the post-secondary level or perform competently in the world of work."

<p>Firefighters in St. Louis are mourning the loss of one of their own who tragically died Thursday while responding to a vacant house fire.</p>
<p>According to the St. Louis Fire Department, Benjamin Polson was killed after the home roof collapsed on top of him and another firefighter.</p>
<p>According to the news outlet, Polson had been with the department since November 2019.</p>
<p>Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson told the <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/fires-st-louis-building-collapses-2505a5ed6510687e9b43b8fc63a9d38d">Associated Press</a> that crews responded to the fire around noon in north St. Louis.</p>
<p>Firefighters went into the burning building to check if there were people inside since homeless people typically use vacant homes to keep warm during the winter, the AP reported.</p>
<p>With the blaze on the first floor extinguished, crews decided to check the second floor, but they decided to leave after realizing the fire was too intense.</p>
<p>As Polson and the other firefighter decided to leave the second floor, the roof and upper floor fell on top.</p>
<p>The extent of the injuries of the surviving firefighter is not yet known, the news outlet reported.</p>

<p>Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced Saturday that six people were killed at an Amazon warehouse that collapsed Friday night.</p>
<p>"This is a tragic day in Illinois history," Pritzker said.</p>
<p>The warehouse is in Edwardsville, where a tornado touched down around 8:30 Friday night.</p>
<p>Edwardsville Fire Chief James Whiteford said the rescue operation at the warehouse has concluded. He said crews are now focused on recovery efforts.</p>
<p>"Through our efforts so far, we identified 45 personnel who made it out of the building safely," he said. "One who had to be airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment and six fatalities."</p>
<p>Amazon CEO Dave Clark offered condolences to those impacted by the storms. </p>
<p>"We’re continuing to provide support to our employees and partners in the area and across the communities affected by the storms," he said in a <a class="Link" href="https://twitter.com/davehclark/status/1469767353760202755">tweet.</a> "We also want to thank all of the first responders for their ongoing efforts on the scene."</p>
<p>The severe weather left a trail of damage across the region.</p>
<p>Numerous other states reported tornadoes Friday night and Saturday morning. At least 70 people were killed when a tornado hit the southwestern Kentucky community of Mayfield.</p>
<p><a class="Link" href="https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national/biden-pledges-full-support-of-federal-government-to-areas-impacted-by-devastating-tornadoes">President Joe Biden addressed the nation</a> Saturday. He pledged the federal government's full support to help those affected by the severe weather.</p>

A mother who delivered a baby girl while battling COVID-19 is honoring her intensive care unit nurse by naming her the child's godmother.Monique Jones was 26 weeks pregnant with her second child when she was admitted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on Sept. 4. She was put in the ICU with severe COVID-19 symptoms."I wasn't feeling good," Jones told CNN. "I had shortness of breath and I had fever."Two days later, the 28-year-old was intubated and placed on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine. The ECMO machine, often called the "highest form of life support," uses a pump to circulate a patient's blood through an artificial lung. Jones said she was nervous and scared about the procedure.ICU nurse Caitlyn Obrock took care of Jones while she was sedated. The nurse said she would whisper words of motivation to Jones on each shift to let her know she was going to make it through."With Monique being pregnant, she's only a year older than I am, I just felt, like, a strong connection with wanting her to do well," said Obrock. "She truthfully was a light to me. You know, we have to hold out hope."Related video below: Nebraska woman gives birth to son while battling COVID-19Jones said she could feel the positive energy around her as she fought her illness."When I was in my hospital bed, I felt some type of positivity around like a guardian angel," Jones told CNN.When her condition worsened to the point that the medical team was not sure if Jones was going to make it without delivering the baby, they decided to deliver her via an emergency cesarean section, Obrock said.On Sept. 23, Jones' daughter Zamyrah was born at 29 weeks, weighing only 2 pounds, 5 ounces, Jones said. After the birth, the baby was transferred to the St. Louis Children's Hospital, where she was placed in the neonatal ICU.Jones remained at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Obrock placed photographs of Zamyrah in Jones' room. Her condition began to improve after the birth of her daughter, Obrock said. On Oct. 1, she was removed from the ECMO machine. Days later she was transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where she had to relearn to walk. She first held Zamyrah on Oct. 20, nearly a month after giving birth. While Jones was in rehab, Obrock organized a baby shower for the young mother with gifts for the newborn and $2,000 for Jones and her family.Zamyrah arrived home from the hospital on Dec. 10 and continues to do well, said Jones. The connection between Obrock and Jones has continued to grow. The two said they text daily. Jones decided to make Obrock a godmother for Zamyrah as a way to thank her for all her support."A godmother to me is like a support system," Jones said. "And I felt like she fought for me."Jones says she is still recovering from her illness and has set up a GoFundMe to raise money for her medical expenses.

A Missouri mother’s TikTok video is now at the center of new conversations surrounding access to childcare.Suited up and with a resume in hand, 1-year-old Mylo Mundwiller joined his mother, 38-year-old Maggie Mundwiller, on her job interview last Wednesday. Mundwiller documented the whole journey with a compilation of videos on TikTok, KMOV reported."I knew people would relate to it; I just didn’t quite know how many," said Mundwiller. "Now I think we’re probably almost to 8 million views, which is insane and awesome."Six weeks after Mylo was born, Mundwiller says she was laid off from her job. Since, she has struggled to find work during the pandemic while also taking care of her newborn. "A lot of people are not able to pay for the childcare if they’re unemployed even if there is one parent that is employed," she said. "You have so many other bills that you have to pay for."Mundwiller recently interviewed for a new job position, but then she got a last-minute call to go in for a second interview. At the time, her husband, older son and the rest of her family were unavailable to watch Mylo while she attended. She thought she would have to forgo the opportunity to interview."I was just honest and let them know that I wasn’t able to have childcare, so I may need to schedule it for another time. So, immediately their response was, we’re child friendly. So, I just let them know, OK we’ll be there in a few hours and Mylo will be interview ready."Mylo’s resume, she said, was an added touch."Hopefully make a good impression and make light out of a situation that’s a little bit different than what we’re used to," she said.A January Pew Research study says about half of employed parents with children under 12 say childcare responsibilities have been difficult to handle during the pandemic. Working women were also more likely than men to reduce their hours and not feel like they were giving 100% on the job.Mundwiller says this video sheds light on the struggles families like her have faced."It feels exciting, it feels scary. It feels wonderful to be able to give people a voice," said Mundwiller. "Hopefully employers all over will start listening to this conversation and read the comments."Comments all over her TikTok are now calling for more employers to normalize child friendly offices or offering childcare access."It’s just such an important thing to continue this momentum to talk about it, hopefully be better as a country," said Mundwiller.Mundwiller says she did get offered the job and plans to post TikTok updates about it and highlight her journey as a working mom."You can tell that there’s just so many people that relate and there hasn’t been a voice for them, and so I feel like finally there’s a voice for people who are struggling in the same way that I have been," she said.

<p>Mylo’s resume, she said, was an added touch.</p>
<p>"Hopefully make a good impression and make light out of a situation that’s a little bit different than what we’re used to," she said.</p>
<p>A January Pew Research study says about half of employed parents with children under 12 say childcare responsibilities have been difficult to handle during the pandemic. </p>
<p>Working women were also more likely than men to reduce their hours and not feel like they were giving 100% on the job.</p>
<p>Mundwiller says this video sheds light on the struggles families like her have faced.</p>
<p>"It feels exciting, it feels scary. It feels wonderful to be able to give people a voice," said Mundwiller. "Hopefully employers all over will start listening to this conversation and read the comments."</p>
<p>Comments all over her TikTok are now calling for more employers to normalize child friendly offices or offering childcare access.</p>
<p>"It’s just such an important thing to continue this momentum to talk about it, hopefully be better as a country," said Mundwiller.</p>
<p>Mundwiller says she did get offered the job and plans to post TikTok updates about it and highlight her journey as a working mom.</p>
<p>"You can tell that there’s just so many people that relate and there hasn’t been a voice for them, and so I feel like finally there’s a voice for people who are struggling in the same way that I have been," she said.</p>

<p>In some parts of America, sports just mean more.</p>
<p>St. Louis is one of those places.</p>
<p>“I bleed blue. I’m a true Blues fan, and they’re the best," said hockey fan Sarah Middleton.</p>
<p>Our lives can be shaped by what we love.</p>
<p>“They mean everything to me, besides of course my family and all that. They are like number one in my life," Middleton expressed.</p>
<p>During the pandemic shutdown, it’s been hard for fans to be distant from the field, the ice, the experience.</p>
<p>“You can't come in and get the same vibes at home," said Blues' fan Brandon Mixon.</p>
<p>Few know the power of a crowd more than Chris Kerber; he’s been the radio voice of the St. Louis Blues for more than two decades.</p>
<p>“Sports teams represent a city. They represent a fan base, they represent a region, they bring positivity," he said.</p>
<p>The city of St. Louis let the Blues start with around 1,400 fans in the arena in February.</p>
<p>For the NHL playoffs, the team will be allowed to fill half its arena.</p>
<p>Most cities’ health departments have followed the same framework, limiting the number of fans, even for outdoor games.</p>
<p>But in some places, like Georgia, Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves are playing outside to a packed stadium of fans, with no capacity limits.</p>
<p>“Safety is important. The fans want to come in the building. They want to feel safe they tell you," Kerber said.</p>
<p>This season, masks have <a class="Link" href="https://www.nhl.com/blues/arena/health-and-safety">been required</a>. Seats are zip-tied to keep pods of fans socially distant.</p>
<p>All tickets are digital, and food and drink orders are cashless.</p>
<p>Fans can also use an app and have an order brought to their seats, so they don’t have to stand in line.</p>
<p>Kerber feels Blues fans have followed the rules to this point.</p>
<p>“We would not have been able to expand our capacity and bring more fans in if the fans didn’t comply with the orders and understand,” Kerber said.</p>
<p>Sports still feel different in 2021.</p>
<p>The St. Louis Cardinals have also limited fans this season and put <a class="Link" href="https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/cardinals-nation/about/safety-procedures">COVID-19 measures in place</a>.</p>
<p>"The number one thing is vaccinations, as those go up just continue to encourage people to get those vaccinations so we can return to normal," said Cardinals' Vice President of Stadium Operations Matt Gifford.</p>
<p>But being close to normal can only increase the desire for a full return.</p>
<p>“I can’t wait until we get back to full capacity and the boards are rocking again," Mixon said.</p>
