INDIANA ON SATURDAYS. KELLY: AHEAD OF ALL OF THE GAMES. IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE AND I HAVE A FEELING THAT PLACES WILL BE BUSY ON JANUARY 1. AND IT IS FEELING LIKE JANUARY 1 THIS WEEKEND. RANDI: INDEED, OUR TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE -- AROUND FREEZING. IT FEELS LIKE WE HAVE MADE IT INTO THE NEW YEAR. AS WE LOOK AT THE RADAR THIS MORNING, WE ARE ALSO TRACKING FLURRIES AND LIGHT’S SHOULD KNOW SHOWERS -- LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS. RIGHT NOW THEY ARE FOCUSED TO THE EAST SO YOU CAN SEE EASTERN PORTIONS OF HIGHLAND COUNTY, HILLSBORO TO RAINSBORO DOWNED THROUGH SELF, YOU’RE PROBABLY SEEING OCCASIONAL FLURRIES FLYING OR PICKING UP AS THEY HAD TOWARDS CHILLICOTHE. AS WE GO FURTHER INTO HIGHLAND COUNTY, A COUPLE OF FLURRIES BUT NOTHING REALLY SUBSTANTIAL. KEEP IN MIND THE RED TEMPERATURES ARE FREEZING SO AS YOU SEE THE LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS COME THROUGH, THEY MAY STICK TO THE ROAD A LITTLE BIT. THAT POTENTIAL WILL BE A LITTLE GREATER ALONG THE I-70 CORRIDOR. THAT IS WHERE WE ARE SEEING A MORE SUBSTANTIAL LINE OF SNOW SHOWERS THAT ARE MOVING DUE EAST. IT IS A COLD FRONT COMING THROUGH THIS MORNING THAT WILL PICK UP THE WINDS AND GIVE US POTENTIAL FOR SNOW SHOWERS. RIGHT NOW TEMPERATURES ACROSS GREATER CINCINNATI ARE SITTING CLOSE TO FREEZING. IT IS 31 AT CBD BUT COUNTING THE NINE MILE PER HOUR WINDS, IT FEELS LIKE 23. FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURE WILL BE A BIGGER DEAL THAN THE FACT THAT WE WILL SEE LIGHT SNOW FLURRIES TODAY. FEELS LIKE 23 MID AFTERNOON SO DRESS FOR THE FACT IT WILL FEEL LIKE THE 20’S IF YOU’RE HEADED OUT TONIGHT TO THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS OR THE GAME FOR THE PLAYOFFS, WE PLAN FOR THE TEMPERATURES TO BE DOWN TO THE TEENS. THE FUTURECAST SHOWING THIS MOVING IN AT 8:00 A.M., THE UPTICK IN THE SNOW SHOWERS ROLLING THROUGH. THEY WILL BE HERE FOR THE MORNING DRIVE. THE FUTURECAST TRIES TO ENHANCE THEM AS THEY MOVE EAST ON THE MORNING COMMUTE. SOME POTENTIAL TO HAVE SOME SLOW SPOTS THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. THIS LINE GETS OUT OF HERE BY LUNCHTIME AND THE BREEZY CONDITIONS ARE AROUND THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. SKIES CLEAR OUT AS WE GO THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AND THAT LEADS TO A COLD START ON SATURDAY MORNING. MANY COMMUNITIES DOWN SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 18 AND 20 DEGREES FOR THE AIR TEMPERATURE AND IT WILL STILL BE WINDY TOMORROW. ON SATURDAY, WINDY AND COLD WITH THE HIGH NEAR THE MID UPPER 30’S BUT THROUGH THE DAY IT WILL FEEL LIKE 15 TO 23 DEGREES. IT WILL FEEL FREEZING COLD ON SUNDAY. FOR TODAY, 33 DEGREES FOR A HIGH, WINDY AND COLD, FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES HANGING OUT RIGHT AROUND 20. WE WILL DROP DOWN TO 18 DEGREES TONIGHT AND KEEP IT COLD THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH THE SUNSHINE. THE GOOD NEWS IS THINGS WILL FALL OUT AS WE GET TO THANKSGIVING. WE HAVE THE 50’S STARTING ON TUESDAY AND RIGHT NOW THE THANKSGIVING FORECAST, INCREASING CLOUDS BUT ALMOST 60 WITH RAIN M

Light snow showers and flurries are coming down on a chilly, windy Friday morning across Cincinnati. The precipitation could impact make roadways slick, especially around the I-75 corridor, as the snow may stick a little bit as the street temperatures are subfreezing. Before heading out to work or school, do bundle up a bit more than usual as temperatures aren't expected to get above freezing at any point through the day.

SHEREE: I THINK KINGS ISLAND IS TRYING TO BE PROACTIVE. THAT IS JUST THE WEATHER WE WILL BE FACING AT THE END OF THIS WEEK. KEVIN: I THINK IT IS APPROPRIATE TO CANCEL WINTERFEST IN THIS CASE. WE ARE TALKING WHEN CHILLS THAT ARE 20 AND 30° BELOW ZERO. IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE IT HAS BEEN THAT COLD. WHEN CHILLS WILL STAY BELOW ZERO THROUGH CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON. LIFE-THREATENING COLD WILL BE OF ALONG DURATION. LET’S BREAK DOWN THE STORM. WE HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR POWER OUTAGES TOO, WITH GUSTS THAT CAN GET UP TO 50 AT TIMES. WHEN YOU HAVE TEMPERATURES A FEW DEGREES ABOVE ZERO, IT IS EASY TO GET WIND CHILLS THAT ARE GREATER THAN 20° BELOW ZERO WHEN YOU ARE TALKING WIND SPEEDS OF THIS MAGNITUDE. THE OTHER WORRY CONTINUES TO BE THAT THIS -- DISRUPTION TO TRAVEL AS WELL. THE BIGGER PROBLEM IS, DO NOT EXPECT BIG IMPROVEMENTS DURING THE DAY ON FRIDAY, BECAUSE OUR TEMPERATURES WILL BE BETWEEN ZERO AND FIVE ABOVE. ROAD TREATMENT IS LESS EFFECTIVE WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT TEMPERATURES THAT COLD. THE IMPACTS WILL BE HIGH ON FRIDAY EVEN THOUGH THE WORST OF THE WEATHER IS LIKELY TO MOVE IN WHILE WE GO TO BED THURSDAY NIGHT AND THE SNOW WILL BE OVER BY THE TIME YOU WAKE UP ON FRIDAY, BUT THE EFFECTS WILL LINGER THROUGH THE DAY. ON THURSDAY, A LITTLE RAIN AND WIND. THE WEATHER IS ESSENTIALLY QUIET UP UNTIL THURSDAY. WE WILL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY TOMORROW. SHOWERS THURSDAY MORNING. THURSDAY EVENING, IT IS STILL RAINING. WE WILL LIKELY BE IN THE MID 40’S. A STRONG COLD FRONT COMES THROUGH BY 10:00 P.M. A QUICK TRANSITION OVER TO SNOW AND HERE IS THE PROBLEM. BY MIDNIGHT, TEMPERATURES ARE CRASHING TO THE TEENS AND SINGLE DIGITS. I THINK OVERNIGHT THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY, IT WILL BE IMPRESSIVE WITH THE SNOW AND WIND. IT WILL GET NASTY PRETTY QUICKLY. THE SNOW WAS GONE BY THE TIME YOU WAKE UP FRIDAY MORNING. RIGHT NOW, SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN THE 1-3 INCH RANGE, WITH SOME AREAS POSSIBLY SEEING AS MUCH AS FOUR. LOOK AT THESE WIND CHILLS AT 7:00 FRIDAY MORNING. TEMPERATURES 25-30 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. THAT IS DANGEROUS COLD. IT MAKES 33 FEEL WARM. TEMPERATURES IN THE 20’S IN THE SUBURBS IN MOST LOCATIONS. A NICE WARM UP TOMORROW AS WE GET CLOSE TO 50 BY AFTERNOON. 48 FOR A HIGH. HERE IS A LOOK AT YOUR DAY PLANNER, PRETTY NICE FROM START TO FINISH AROUND THE AREA. HOPEFULLY YOU ARE TRAVELING TOMORROW VERSUS THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. 40° ON THURSDAY. -- 48 DEGREES ON THURSDAY. THIS LOOKS TO BE A VERY IMPACTFUL WINTER STORM.

<p>MILLCREEK, Utah (<a class="Link" href="https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/skier-buried-in-avalanche-for-8-hours-wednesday-grateful-for-heroic-rescue">KSTU</a>)— Travis Haussener is thankful to be alive. </p>
<p>Last week, he was backcountry skiing in Utah on what he thought was stable snow when he suddenly realized he was in danger. </p>
<p>“I heard the big 'wumpf,' felt like the ground shake, and then all of a sudden there's this wall of snow coming down on me that envelops me," said Haussener. "And then I thought, that was it. I thought, you know, my life was over.”</p>
<p>Using his one free arm, Haussener desperately tried digging himself out.</p>
<p>“In between digs, I started yelling for help," he said. "In, you know, the hopes of some miracle.”</p>
<p>Miraculously, an off-duty Unified Fire EMT heard his cries and called in search and rescue teams. </p>
<p>“I was [like], you know, 'Guys, you gotta get me down or I'm gonna die up here,'" said Haussener. </p>
<p>It took eight hours to get Haussener off the mountain. </p>
<p>Nursing a hole in his lung, broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder, Haussener wishes he had paid more attention to the snow.</p>
<p>“I want to keep being in the mountains, keep doing what I love," he said. "I'll be maybe a little bit more careful next time."</p>

<p>A man who identified himself as Jay broke into a school to help save people’s lives last week during last week’s historic western New York blizzard. The storm dropped several feet of snow amid hurricane-force winds.</p>
<p>Jay left a note for the school apologizing for the break-in.</p>
<p>"The selflessness that people showed to help others during the storm is what WNY is really made of. A keyholder of the Pine Hill School received an alarm on Friday evening of glass break," the Cheektowaga Police Department wrote. "Unfortunately, due to the deteriorating weather conditions, we were unable to respond immediately to the alarm. Once we could send an officer to check the building they found one of the windows had been broken out."</p>
<p>He used a snow thrower in the school to help rescue people stranded in the snow. The group entered the school and only ate enough food to “stay alive."</p>
<p>Police said no charges would be filed against the group. Officials did want to identify jay and recognize him for his actions. By Thursday evening, they found Jay and said the group became a family. </p>
<p>He told officials that they are planning to gather for a summer picnic.</p>

WINTER. LET’S CHECK IN WITH KEVIN ROBINSON. &gt;&gt; IT’S A REMINDER THAT JANUARY REPRESENTS WINTER. IT IS NOT HARSH ENTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE WEST COAST IS STORMY AND KEEPING THE HARSH WINTER COLD, SOMETHING WEEKS BASED AROUND CHRISTMAS, LOCKED UP IN CANADA FOR NOW. AS WE DISCUSSED THE THREAT FOR SNOW THIS WEEKEND AROUND THE AREA, MAYBE FREEZING RAIN OR A WINTRY MIX. IT IS NOT A BIG STORM FOR US. IT COULD HAVE SOME IMPACTS TO YOUR SUNDAY. HERE IS WHAT TO EXPECT. BOTH AND FROSTY OVERNIGHT. NICE-LOOKING SATURDAY. A SEASONABLE CHILL OUT HERE. ON SUNDAY, WE WILL START WITH A WINTRY MIX. THAT COULD BE SLEET OR FLEECING DRIZZLE. IT SHOULD NOT BE A LOT. WHAT WILL BE CRITICAL ARE THE TEMPERATURES. I THINK IT IS DAMP AND DREARY FOR THE GAME. WE HAVE DRIZZLE AND MISSED. WE COULD SEE A LIGHT DUSTING, INTO SUNDAY EVENING. OVERALL, IT IS A WE CAN SPLIT WEATHER-WISE. THE LOW CLOUDS REPRESENTED BY THE GRAY KEEP GOING NORTH. THEY ARE ERODING AWAY BUT WE ARE SEEING HIGH CLOUDS. THAT IS WHY WE HAVE MOSTLY CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. WE HAVE A SANDWICHED AREA WHERE SKIES ARE MOSTLY CLEAR AND TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN RESPONDING TO THE CLEAR SKIES. ESPECIALLY WITH THE LIGHT WINDS. WE ARE DOWN TO 13 CINCINNATI. OUR WINDS HAVE GONE TO THE SOUTH. TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY DROP ANOTHER TWO OR THREE DEGREES, FOR MOST OF US. MOST OF US ARE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 25 AND 30. 29 IN MASON. HAMILTON AND HARRISON ARE AT 25. WITHIN THE 275 LOOP, WYOMING IS DOWN TO 24. 27 IN HYDE PARK. THE REST OF THE NIGHT TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO DROP BACK INTO THE MID-20’S. TOMORROW, WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF SUNSHINE I THINK IT WILL BE A NICE JANUARY AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES SHOULD TAKE OFF IN THE 30’S AND SNEAK YOUR WAY INTO THE LOW 40’S BY AFTERNOON. HERE IS FUTURECAST SKIES. CLEAR THROUGH THE NIGHT. THERE WILL BE CLOUDS, ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF THE OHIO RIVER. IT SHOULD BE A MOSTLY SUNNY DAY. NICE, QUIET, AND COLD ON YOUR SATURDAY NIGHT. IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO HEAD OUT TOMORROW NIGHT, LOOK HOW THESE CLOUDS FILLED IN. YOU ARE SEEING THIS AREA BLUE. I DON’T THINK WE ARE TALKING SIGNIFICANT SNOW HERE. IT IS FLURRIES, MISSED, AND DRIZZLE. IF WE ARE BELOW FREEZING, A GLAZE WILL DEVELOP. THAT WILL BE WHAT WE NEED TO WATCH EARLY ON SUNDAY. SUNDAY AT ONE, STILL A LITTLE MISSED AND GISSEL OUT THERE. I THINK THERE IS A FEW HOURS ON SUNDAY EVENING WHERE WE HAVE LIGHT SNOW BEFORE THAT SYSTEM PULLS OUT THAT COULD PUT DOWN A LIGHT DUSTING. NOT A BIG STORM, PROBABLY MORE OF A NUISANCE. YOUR WINTRY MIX IN THE MORNING. SUNDAY WE WILL BE STUCK IN THE 30’S BECAUSE OF THE CLOUDY, CHERRY CONDITIONS. -- CLOUDY, DRILL RE-, CONDITIONS. HERE’S YOUR DAY PLANNER. TOPPING OUT IN THE LOW 40’S COME 3:00 P.M.. SEVEN DAY FORECAST, WITH THAT WEEK SYSTEM. I WILL MAKE SUNDAY A WEATHER IMPACT. NOT BAD. IT IS STORMY ON THE WEST COAST. THAT KEEPS THE COLTS LOCKED UP. THAT’S WHEN BE ENJOY MILD WEATHER NEXT WEEK. WE CAN PUSH 60 BY NEXT THURSDAY

IT’S NOT CLEAR WHEN THEY MAY GO OUT AGAIN AND LOOK FOR BAKER. STEVEN: TAKING A LOOK ON YOUR FORECAST ON THE NINTH DAY OF JANUARY. KATIE: WEATHER IS GOING TO GET A LOT MORE ACTIVE FOR THE LAST PART OF THE WEEK. AS WE HAD TO THE EARLY PART OF THE WEEKEND. FOR NOW WE ARE GOING TO HAVE SUNSHINE. MARK CLOUDS BUT THE CLOUDS WILL START TO ERODE AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. OUR CITY CAMP SHOWING A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE AS WE LOOK OVER THE OHIO RIVER AND DOWNTOWN YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE CLOUD BREAKS BEHIND THE BANNER BUT THAT WILL BE THE PICTURE FOR US AT LEAST FOR ANOTHER HOUR SO AT LEAST UNTIL MOST OF THE CLOUDS COME OUR WAY. CURRENTLY SITTING AT 35 DEGREES. WINDS 25 MILES PER HOUR. BREEZES NOT COMING ANYWHERE AND WILL FEEL COLD AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. 43 FOR THE HIGH, WE WILL HAVE THE AFTERNOON SUNSHINE AND THAT WILL CARRY RIGHT INTO THIS EVENING. PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. TEMPERATURES DROPPING TO JUST BELOW FREEZING. FUTURECAST FOR TODAY WILL SHOW THE SUNSHINE AS YOU HEAD TOWARDS 2:00, 3:00 THIS AFTERNOON NOTICE HOW MOST OF US HAVE MAINLY SUNNY SKIES. TONIGHT, MAYBE A COUPLE OF PASSING CLOUDS AS WE HAD THE TONIGHT. MOST OF US HERE LOOKING A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN WE HAVE BEEN SEEING IN RECENT NIGHTS SO NOT QUITE AS CROWDED AS OF LATE. STARTING OUT WITH SOME SUNSHINE AND SCATTERED CAUSE FOR TUESDAY. WARMER AIR IS GOING TO START COMING IN FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON. MAYBE A SPRINKLE OR SHOWER AS THE WARM AIR APPROACHES THE AREA. WE COULD SEE A FLURRY OR TWO MIXING IN WITH SOME OF THE COOLER TEMPERATURES IN THE MORNING. SPOTTY SHOWERS, MAINLY BETWEEN 12:00 AND 3:00. NOTICE THEY ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. WE WILL BE BACK UNDER A PARTLY CLOUDY SKY AS WE HEAD TOWARDS TUESDAY EVENING. NOT A BIG DEAL, IT’S NOT GOING TO RUIN YOUR ENTIRE DAY. I THINK TEMPERATURES WILL BE MOSTLY WARM TOMORROW. AGAIN, CHANCES FOR A SPRINKLE OR MAYBE A STRAY SHOWER. WE COULD SEE A FLURRY OR TWO VERY EARLY ON BEFORE THE TEMPERATURE IS REALLY START TO JUMP AS YOU HEAD TOWARDS THE TEE TIME HOURS. DESCENT WARM UP AS WE HEAD INTO WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. I THINK SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL ARRIVE ON THURSDAY. 55 OR THURSDAY, WE WILL SEE SOME THUNDERSTORMS TO START OF THE DAY. THAT WILL TURN INTO A WINTRY MIX AND POTENTIALLY LIGHT SNOW BY FRIDAY MORNING. WE DO HAVE LIGHTS NEVER THE FORECAST FOR FRIDAY. JOY ON SATURDAY PLAYO

WE HAVE FLURRIES FLYING THROUGH THE SKY. FLURRIES IMPACTING AREAS NORTH OF THE LOOP. WE ALSO HAVE A FEW MORE FLURRIES THROUGHOUT NORTHERN KENTUCKY. YOU MIGHT BE SEEING SOME OF THESE FLURRIES IF YOU ARE ON THE AA ARE CLOSE TO THE AA. WE ALSO HAVE FLURRIES MOVING CLOSER TO WINCHESTER. OTHERWISE IT IS DRY BUT IT IS CLOUDY AND IT WILL STAY GLOOMY FOR MUCH OF THE DAY. HERE ARE THE FLURRIES MOVING CLOSER TO I-71 RIGHT NOW. I DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE MUCH OF AN IMPACT FROM TODAY’S FLURRIES. WE WERE SO MUCH WARMER YESTERDAY , 25 TO 30 DEGREES WARMER, WHICH DID ALLOW FOR THE PAVEMENT TEMPERATURES TO WARM UP. WITH THAT LIGHT SNOW, NOT EXPECTING ANY ISSUES ON THE ROADWAYS. THE EXTRA CAREFUL AS YOU AND OVERPASSES, ESPECIALLY THROUGHOUT TONIGHT AND ONCE WE GET TO SUNDAY, YOU REALLY HAVE TO BE CAREFUL AS YOU HEAD OUT ON THE ROADWAYS. TEMPERATURE SITTING IN THE 30’S. WE HAVE 34 DEGREES IN CINCINNATI. IT IS 35 IN SPRINGBORO. IT FEELS LIKE WINTER IN FALMOUTH. 34 DEGREES IN BATAVIA. A FEW MORE HIT AND MISS FLURRIES WILL BE A POSSIBILITY. DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE MUCH OF ANYTHING. THESE WILL BE NOVELTY FLAKES THAWING FLU THIS GUY -- NOVELTY FLAKES FLYING THROUGH THE SKY. IT WILL STILL FEEL LIKE WINTER TOMORROW WITH OVERTURES PRETTY SEASONABLE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. A COUPLE CLOUD THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON BUT GENERALLY I EXPECT TO AT LEAST SEE A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE. THEN SUNDAY THINGS WILL START TO CHANGE. STARTING EARLY IN THE MORNING WE BEGIN TO SEE SOME SNOW ROLLING THROUGH AND THIS COULD PUT DOWN ABOUT AN INCH OR SO OF SNOWFALL FOR MANY OF US. IF YOU LIVE IN KENTUCKY OR ANYWHERE SOUTH AND EAST DIVISIVE ANYONE YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF SEEING MORE OF A WINTRY MIX AND A COLD RAIN AND THAT WILL LEAD TO YOUR SNOWFALL TOTALS BEING ON THE LESSER END. ACROSS GREATER CINCINNATI ON SUNDAY IS THIS NOBLE LAST THROUGHOUT THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY -- IS THE SNOW TO LAST AT LEAST THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY AND WRAP UP SUNDAY EVENING AND SUNDAY NIGHT. AREAS SOUTH OF THE OHIO RIVER HAVE A CHANCE OF SEEING THE SNOW MIXING IN WITH WINTRY MIX AND RAINFALL. ACCUMULATIONS NOT EXPECTED TO BE AS HIGH IF YOU LIVE IN NORTH AND KENTUCKY. OTHERWISE IF YOU’RE HEADED UP TO BUFFALO, LET’S CHECK OUT WHAT IS GOING ON UP THERE. THE ROADS EXPECTED TO BE SNOWY. AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE WEEKEND, SATURDAY LOOKS OK, AND BY SUNDAY WE START TO SEE THE SAME SYSTEM BRINGING US SNOWFALL BRINGING SNOW TO BUFFALO. THAT WILL HAVE IMPACTS TO THE GAME. EXPECT TO SEE SNOW FLYING THROUGH THIS DIED DURING THE GAME IN BUFFALO. FOR THE REST OF TODAY TEMPERATURES WILL STRUGGLE TO MAKE IT OUT OF THE 30’S. WE ARE TOPPING OUT CLOSER TO 39. SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES TODAY AND TOMORROW WITH HIGHS IN THE UPPER 30’S AND LOW 40’S. SUNDAY IS A WEATHER IMPACT DATE. THE SNOWFALL TITLE ON SUNDAY EXPECTED TO BE CLOSE TO AN INCH OR TWO, ESPECIALLY NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER. ON MONDAY LIGHT SNOWFALL. THE BIGGEST SYSTEM WILL ARRIVE ON WEDNESDAY. HAVE TO GET THROUGH THIS WEEKEND BEFORE WE CAN TALK ABOUT THAT. I EXPECT TO SEE THAT BEING A LITTLE BIT MOR

TURNING NOW TO THE WEATHER. MANY OF US WILL BE INSIDE OR BARS TOMORROW WATCHING THE BIG GAME. IF YOU HAD TO DO SOME ERRANDS, ADAM HAS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. KEVIN: IF YOU ARE HEADING OUT TO ANY GATHERINGS FOR WATCHING THE GAME, YOU MAY WANT TO BE CAREFUL ON THE ROADS. WE ARE WATCHING A WINTER WEATHER MAKER. IF YOU ARE WATCHING AT HOME, YOU DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT ROAD CONDITIONS. IT MAY BE BETTER TO STAY OUT OF THAT WEATHER TOMORROW. HERE IS THAT BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE BREAKDOWN FOR TOMORROW. WE HAVE THAT SNOW AND WINTRY MIX BEGINNING IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. IF YOU’RE HEADING OUT IN THE MORNING, YOU MAY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT ISSUE. IT WILL LAST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, THEN FINALLY BY THE EVENING, GAME TIME, IT WILL TAPER OFF BUT YOU MAY NEED TO BE CAUTIOUS ON THE ROADWAYS. WE ARE EXPECTING UP TO 1-3 INCHES, WITH MOST OF THAT HAPPENING AROUND I-71 AND NORTH AND NORTHWEST. NOT MUCH CHANGE FROM OUR PREVIOUS FORECAST. WE HAVE KEPT IT FAIRLY SIMILAR. IN AND AROUND THE OHIO RIVER WE ARE ON THAT LINE TO WHERE WE CAN SEE ALMOST A LIGHT COATING TO A FEW INCHES. THE FURTHER NORTH YOU GO TO HAMILTON, BUTLER COUNTY, SOUTHEAST INDIANA, THE CHANCES ARE GREATER FOR MORE SNOWFALL. WE SEE A FEW FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWERS IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS, BUT IT STARTS TO PICK UP AROUND 7:00 IN THE MORNING. WE WILL HAVE A GOOD MIX ALONG THE OHIO RIVER. SNOW MOSTLY TO THE NORTH BUT THAT MAKES MOOSE -- MOVES FURTHER SOUTH AND EAST FOR CINCINNATI, MASON, AND MUCH OF THE I-71, I-75 CORRIDOR AS WELL. IN THE AFTERNOON THAT TEMPERATURE TREND TRYING TO GET SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING. THAT IS WHAT MODELS ARE PICKING UP WITH MORE MIXING HEADING FURTHER TO THE NORTH, AND LASTING INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS. I THINK SOME OF THIS WILL BE MORE SNOWFALL. ANYTIME YOU HAVE ANY PRECIPITATION OUT OF THE CLOUDS, WE HAVE COOLING IN THAT PROCESS. THAT COULD SWITCH IT BACK TO SNOW. BY THE EVENING, A LOT OF IT HEADING OUT BUT NOT ALL OF IT. WE WILL HAVE TO STAY WATCHING THAT FORECAST THROUGH TOMORROW. TONIGHT WE KEEP IT AROUND THE LOW 30’S INTO TOMORROW MORNING. WE STAY AROUND THAT FREEZING LINE AT THE SURFACE, COLDER ABOVE US. THEN THE TEMPERATURES IN THE AFTERNOON STARTING TO MIX IN A LITTLE BIT OF THE WINTRY MIX TERRAIN IN -- TO RAIN IN THE EVENING. MONDAY AND TUESDAY THE TEMPERATURES IN THE 40’S BUT THAT WILL NOT BE THE ONLY SYSTEM TO WATCH OUT FOR

AND ALSO IN INDIANA. THE CHILL IS BACK IN THE AIR AND MAYBE SOME FLURRIES FLYING. KEVIN: WE ARE LIKELY TO SEE FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWERS FLYING ON THURSDAY AS TEMPERATURES WILL BARELY STRUGGLE TO STAY MUCH ABOVE FREEZING TOMORROW. WE’LL TAP OUT AT ABOUT 34 AND A FEW FLAKES OF SNOW WILL FLY. WITH THE CHILLY TEMPERATURES WILL COME RISK RATING -- BRISK WINDS. THE WIND GUSTS HAVE COME DOWN AS WE TOPPED. DOWN A LITTLE OVER 40. THEY ARE IN THE 20 TO 30 RANGE IN THAT IS WHERE THEY SHOULD STAY THROUGH THE NIGHT. HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT. MORE FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWERS WITH MORE WINS. WORST CASE SCENARIO, A LIGHT DUSTING COMES FROM PERSISTENT FLURRIES OR SNOW SHOWERS. HERE ARE THE CLOUDY SKIES IN PLACE, THERE IS THE STORM, THAT RACED THROUGH HERE THIS MORNING INTO SOUTHERN ONTARIO AND CANADA. WE ARE ON THE BACKSIDE OF THIS WITH COLD AIR WRAPPING IN. YOU LOOK TO PARTS OF INDIANA AND ILLINOIS, YOU DO SEE FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWER ACTIVITY. THIS IS WHAT IS MOST LIKELY THAT WILL PIVOT IN HERE TOMORROW. LIGHT DUSTING MAY BE WORST CASE SCENARIO SOMEONE PICKS UP A COATING. THE BEST CHANCE FOR THAT WILL BE IN OUR NORTHERNMOST AREAS. DOWNTOWN TONIGHT, WE ARE AT 34, THERE IS A SUSTAINED WHEN THAT MAKES IT FEEL LIKE IN THE MID-20’S. WHILE THERE’S NOT MUCH TO SHOW YOU ON THE RADAR, LITTLE MIST AND DRIZZLE IS LINGERING OUT THERE. TEMPERATURES FOR EVERYONE IS PRETTY MUCH ABOVE FREEZING. I DON’T THINK WE DROP A LOT TONIGHT BECAUSE OF THE CLOUDS AND WINDS, TEMPERATURES ARE LIKELY TO STAY WHERE THEY ARE. THEY MAY SETTLE BACK YOUR FOUR DEGREES. -- THREE OR FOUR DEGREES. 34,. . DELHI FORT WRIGHT 35. HERE’S YOUR 12 HOUR FORECAST THROUGH THE NIGHT. WE GET DOWN TO FREEZING. TOMORROW, TEMPERATURES WILL NOT BUDGE MUCH. THE CLOUDS AND SNOW SHOWERS AND WINDS, EXPECTED. NOTICE THERE IS NOT A LOT OUT THERE. BUT YOU WILL SEE, I EXPECT AN UPTICK IN THE COVERAGE OF FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWERS TOMORROW ESPECIALLY IN OUR NORTHERNMOST COMMUNITIES. ANYTIME YOU GET A MORE PERSISTENT FLURRY OR SNOW SHOWER THAT LINGERS, YOU MAY MUSTER UP DUSTING. MORE OF A NOVELTY AS WE START TO FINALLY CLEAR UP SOME MORE ON FRIDAY. FRIDAY AFTERNOON WE ARE INTO SUNSHINE PART OF THE DAY. OF YOU FLURRIES TONIGHT. CLOUDY WITH CHILI WINS 31 FOR OUR LOCAL. COLD WINS, 34 FOR YOUR AFTERNOON HIGH. STARTING OUT IN YOUR MORNING AROUND FREEZING. TEMPERATURES ARE TWO OR THREE DEGREES IN THE AFTERNOON. HERE’S YOUR SEVEN-DAY FORECAST. WITH THE RETURN OF SOME SUN ON FRIDAY WE ARE UP TO 41. . SATURDAY LOOKS LIKE A NICE DAY. . IT’S A LITTLE DECEPTIVE BECAUSE WHAT COMES AFTER SATURDAY IS ANYTHING BUT REALLY SPRINGLIKE FOR US. IN THE UPPER 40’S WITH SUNSHINE. SUNDAY WE WILL HAVE SHOWERS. IT’S WHAT HAPPENS SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON SOME BITTER COLD ARCTIC AIR. THIS IS COMING OFF THE ARCTIC. THIS LOOKS LIKE THE AIR THAT WE HAD AROUND CHRISTMAS. NOT SAYING THAT. IT IS COMING IN HERE YET BUT THE FACT THAT IT IS GOING TO US, WE’LL LEAVE US WITH AN ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN, MEANING WE ARE LIKELY TO STRADDLE THAT LINE BETWEEN RAIN AND SNOW, WITH SEVERAL WEATHER SYSTEMS COMING UP. NEXT WEEK, LIKELY TO BE A BUSY ONE AGAIN. MIKE: WEATHER WEARY. THANK YOU.

It was a winter storm that didn’t bring a lot of snow, but it did bring a lot of trouble on the roads. Many districts closed schools, and slick conditions caused accidents all over the region.“Man, it was totally icy, just a sheet of ice on the roads,” said Ravine Street resident Silas Damron. The steep street was the scene of multiple collisions.“It was really slippery. I had to put my car in low gear and go really, really slow, but it's really bad right there. I mean, it's dangerous,” said delivery driver Regina Sweeten. All over the area, there were problems. At Boudinot and Montana avenues a life squad and a car collided. On Interstate 74, icy conditions brought vehicles to a standstill.North of Cincinnati, at I-75 and I-275, a wreck involving a semi and a car shut down the highway. On Dorchester Avenue, a crew from God’s Bible College pushed cars to help them get up the hill.“Well, there’s a lot of ice,” said God’s Bible College employee Anthony Paules. “We had to push several cars.”Cincinnati crews had more than 50 trucks on the road by daybreak. “We were out there last night. We're out there this morning, and we're going to continue to be out here until the roads are treated,” said Cincinnati Streets superintendent Jarrod Bolden.

<p>AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Winter weather brought ice to a wide swath of the United States on Tuesday, causing the cancellation of more than 1,600 flights nationwide, bringing traffic to a standstill on an interstate through Arkansas and knocking out power to thousands of Texans.</p>
<p>Numerous auto collisions were reported in Austin, Texas, with at least one fatality according to the Austin Fire Department. In Travis County, Texas, which includes Austin, police and sheriff’s deputies have been responding to new crashes about every three minutes since 8 a.m., according to the Austin-Travis County Traffic Report Page.</p>
<p>More than 700 flights to or from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and more than 250 to or from Dallas Love Field were canceled or delayed Tuesday, according to the tracking service FlightAware. At Dallas-Fort Worth, a major U.S. airport hub, more than 40% of the flights had been canceled.</p>
<p>Dallas-based Southwest Airlines has canceled more than 500 flights and delayed more than 250 more, FlightAware reported.</p>
<p>About 7,000 power outages in Texas were reported as of late Tuesday morning, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said following a briefing in Austin on the worsening conditions. He emphasized the outages were due to factors such as ice on power lines or downed trees, and not the performance of the Texas power grid that buckled for days during a deadly winter storm in 2021.</p>
<p>Fleets of emergency vehicles were fanned out among 1,600 roads impacted by the freeze.</p>
<p>One Texas state trooper was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a driver who lost control of their vehicle, said Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.</p>
<p>“The roadways are very hazardous right now. We cannot overemphasize that,” Abbott said.</p>
<p>In Arkansas, Interstate 40 Tuesday morning was ice-coated and “extremely hazardous” in the Forrest City area, according to the city's fire department. <a class="Link" href="https://www.facebook.com/ForrestCityFire/posts/pfbid0mrhN9B7kp6vEaS2Cg9DxFh9t6g7pwyhGDw5u9TxeLbiYySrgimYdXQVnhw9UhgzCl">Pictures posted on social media</a> showed the crumpled cab of a semi-trailer.</p>
<p>The department responded to two bad wrecks and about 15 other crashes Tuesday morning, Division Chief Jeremy Sharp said by telephone. In many of the crashes, the drivers pick up speed on the highway but run into trouble when they reach a bridge, he said.</p>
<p>“They hit the ice and they start wrecking,” he said.</p>
<p>“When I-40 shuts down like that, that can be hours of waiting,” said John Gadberry, who lives in Colt, Arkansas, not far from the highway. “I-40 is usually one of the first things that freezes over due to its slight elevation.”</p>
<p>By late Tuesday morning, I-40 was cleared and traffic had resumed, the Arkansas Department of Transportation announced. The interstate connects Little Rock, Arkansas, to Memphis, Tennessee.</p>
<p>The <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/5e1729f39da76aef3a00c7c5ffdf6a30">storm began Monday</a> as part of an expected “several rounds” of wintry precipitation through Wednesday across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Marc Chenard.</p>
<p>“Generally light to moderate freezing rain resulting in some pretty significant ice amounts,” Chenard said.</p>
<p>“We're expecting ice accumulations potentially a quarter inch or higher as far south as Austin, Texas, up to Dallas over to Little Rock, Arkansas, towards Memphis, Tennessee, and even getting close to Nashville, Tennessee,” according to Chenard.</p>
<p>The flight disruptions follow <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-plants-dallas-district-of-columbia-business-d2034f41df7a4f78de02db8aa4ba11df">Southwest’s meltdown in December</a> that began with a winter storm but continued after most other airlines had recovered. Southwest canceled about 16,700 flights over the last 10 days of the year, and <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/us-department-of-transportation-dallas-business-28f98b23081bdec04dbed54506e5568b">the U.S. Transportation Department is investigating</a>.</p>
<p>The weather service has issued a winter storm warning for a large swath of Texas and parts of southeastern Oklahoma and an ice storm warning across the midsection of Arkansas into western Tennessee.</p>
<p>A winter weather advisory is in place in much of the remainder of Arkansas and Tennessee and into much of Kentucky, West Virginia and southern parts of Indiana and Ohio.</p>
<p>Schools and colleges in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas planned to close or go to virtual learning Tuesday.</p>

<p>Images from Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano on the Big Island, show of snow covering the ground. The summit received several inches of snow this week as a storm passed through the area. </p>
<p>While it may sound odd for it to snow in Hawaii, the National Weather Service says it's not uncommon. The highest peaks in Hawaii generally receive snow every winter, according to the NWS. </p>
<p>A blizzard warning was issued for Hawaii last year. It was the first time a blizzard warning was issued for the state since 2019. </p>
<p>While there may be snow at the highest elevations in Hawaii, the rest of the state is experiencing sunny and breezy conditions. Highs are forecasted to be in the 60s on Thursday.</p>

One statistic tells the whole story pretty well: 15 feet of snow. Some parts of Yosemite National Park are buried under that much frozen precipitation. As a result, the entire park is closed. And the National Park Service (NPS) has yet to announce when it might open back up.Pictures on a recent tweet from Yosemite's official Twitter account show the pile-up, with some buildings half-buried.On its website Thursday afternoon, the park said: "Yosemite has experienced significant snowfall in all areas of the park, resulting in snow depths up to 15 feet in some areas."Park crews are working to restore critical services so visitors can safely return. There is no estimated date for reopening."Some other full and partial closuresYosemite, nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains, is not the only NPS site affected by the recent winter storms. Others are also closed, either fully or partially. Here's a look at the status of some other popular places in California as of 4 p.m. PT Thursday:• Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks: To the south of Yosemite, "nearly all park roads remain closed while road crews continue working to recover from winter storms."• Redwood National and State Parks: In far Northern California on the Pacific Coast, you're still mostly out of luck. "Due to multiple storms causing downed trees and power outages, there are closures throughout the park."Desert areas haven't necessarily fared better.• Mojave National Preserve: All roads in the preserve have been closed since Wednesday and will stay closed until further notice, the preserve says on its website. "Please do not drive in the area or go around barricades. Travel in the eastern Mojave region is very unsafe."Its Twitter account showed a video of near-blizzard conditions there on Wednesday.• Death Valley National Park: Even California's proverbial oven has been affected, with some roads closed because of winter storm conditions. Other roads and trails are still closed because of "damage and debris from major flooding this summer."There are bright spots, however.• Joshua Tree National Park: Not far from Palm Springs, this park reopened Thursday after a brief closure. "All the main roads are now open. Campgrounds, visitor centers and hiking trails are open. Water and ice may be present on the roads; drive cautiously. All dirt roads are closed and will reopen when cleared.• California state parks: As of Thursday afternoon, 14 state parks were fully closed, and another 34 were partially closed. But with more than 280 park units in the system, plenty of options remain. Click here for the latest updates.Beyond CaliforniaIt's not just the Golden State grappling with winter weather. For instance, Grand Canyon National Park warned would-be visitors on Thursday morning: "Postpone travel today. There are many regional road closures this morning. All trails into Grand Canyon and footpaths along the rim are snow-packed and icy. Foot traction is advised."The bottom line: Check any park's site before heading out. (Well, Everglades is a pretty safe bet regarding winter weather right now.)And remember that just because a park remains open, it may not be easy to access. Be sure your vehicle is winter-ready and that you're well-equipped with the proper gear and clothing.

CONTRACTORS WHO ARE AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW AND GOOD ONES, TOO. ALL RIGHT. IN THE LAST TEN DAYS, THE 14 DAYS, ALLISON, WE’VE HAD THREE TORNADOES IN THE AREA, ONE CLAREMONT, TWO HIGHLAND, 75 DEGREE WEATHER. WE’VE HAD ALL KINDS OF THINGS. WE’VE HAD RAIN AND NOW WE MIGHT EVEN GET SOME SNOW. MIGHT AS WELL THROW SOME SNOW IN THERE, RIGHT? IF YOU’RE GETTING EVERYTHING ELSE. AND OF COURSE, NOW THAT IT’S MARCH, WE ARE GETTING THAT WINTER WEATHER, WHICH YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT LAST MONTH. BUT HERE WE ARE. SO RIGHT NOW, TEMPERATURES ARE SITTING AROUND 36 DEGREES. WE STILL HAVE SOME CLOUDS AROUND. BY MORNING, WE ARE DRY OUTSIDE AND TEMPERATURES ARE CLOSER TO 30. BUT THERE IS STILL GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT OF A BREEZE TOMORROW MORNING. SO THAT 30 FEELS MORE LIKE 20 AT TIMES. SO BUNDLE UP IF YOU’RE HEADED OUT EARLY IN THE MORNING TOMORROW. OTHERWISE, WE’VE GOT GENERALLY DRY SKIES AROUND CINCINNATI RIGHT NOW. HOWEVER, LOTS OF CLOUD COVER AROUND AND I’D SAY MOST OF WHAT YOU’RE SEEING HERE ON SATELLITE AND RADAR OVER THE LAST 6 HOURS, A LOT OF IT DIDN’T MAKE IT QUITE DOWN TO THE GROUND. BUT IF ANY LED TO A LITTLE BIT OF A LET A WET ROAD. NOW, HIGH PRESSURE IN CONTROL AND WE ARE GOING TO SEE THAT AND CONTROL FOR THE REST OF THE DAY TOMORROW. THAT’S WHY TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE A NICE DRY DAY FOR US. HOWEVER, TOMORROW NIGHT, EVERYTHING STARTS TO CHANGE AS A STORM CENTER BEGINS TO APPROACH. IT’S GOING TO ORGANIZE OVER THE NEXT 12 TO 24 HOURS, APPROACHING US ABOUT THIS TIME TOMORROW NIGHT AND THEN SNOW WILL FALL OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. SUNDAY MORNING IS GOING TO BE A WEATHER IMPACT. MORNING, BUT REALLY MUCH OF SUNDAY, I THINK, IS GOING TO BE IMPACTED BY THIS, EVEN THOUGH WE AREN’T GOING TO SEE MUCH SNOW AS WE GET INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS SOUTHERN TO LINGER A LITTLE BIT. THERE IS THAT POTENTIAL AS WELL THAT WE WIND UP SEEING AS SPOTTY ISOLATED SHOWERS STILL LINGERING ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING. BUT FOR THE MOST PART, A LOT OF THE ACTION COMES LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING. SO HERE WE ARE IN FEATURE CARS. FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING. WE HAVE SOME CLOUD COVER AROUND. AND I DO THINK SOME OF YOUR SATURDAY MORNING LOOKS TO BE A LITTLE BIT CLOUDY. NOW, THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE DAY, WE’LL BEGIN TO SEE SOME SUNSHINE JUST IN TIME FOR THE SAINT PATTY’S PARADE. AND IF YOU’RE HANGING OUT DOWNTOWN AFTER THE PARADE, LOOKS LIKE A REALLY DECENT AFTERNOON AROUND. IN FACT, THIS IS THE NICEST IT’S GOING TO BE ALL WEEKEND LONG. WE’LL GET SOME SUNSHINE MIXED IN WITH SOME CLOUD COVER IN THE AFTERNOON MOON ON SATURDAY, WITH TEMPERATURES TOPPING OUT AROUND 44. NOW, SATURDAY NIGHT, EVERYTHING STARTS TO CHANGE INITIALLY AS THIS SYSTEM MOVES IN, MIGHT MOVE IN AS SOME BRIEF RAIN REALLY COLD RAIN, THOUGH. AND THEN IT’S GOING TO SWITCH OVER TO SNOWFALL. FOR MOST OF US, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE ALONG IN NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER. BUT AREAS SOUTH OF THE 7175 SPLIT DOWN HERE TOWARD WALTON. DRY RIDGE FOUND WITH BROOKSVILLE. OH, AND TIM, YOU LIKELY ARE GOING TO SEE MORE OF THAT WINTRY MIX MIXING IN WITH SOME COLD RAIN, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. FUTURE CASTS NOT BUYING INTO THAT SCENARIO VERY MUCH IN THE LAST HOUR OR SO, BUT I DO THINK WE ARE STILL GOING TO SEE SOME CHANGES WITH FEATURE CAST IN THE NEXT 12 HOURS OR EVEN AS THIS SYSTEM STARTS TO MOVE IN HERE. SO RIGHT NOW, IT STILL IS LOOKING LIKE, AGAIN ALONG THE NORTHEAST, OHIO RIVER. MOSTLY A SNOWFALL, A WET SNOW. AND THEN FOR AREA SOUTH OF THE 7175 SPLIT, YOU GET MORE OF THAT WINTRY MIX AND RAIN THAT’S GOING TO CUT BACK ON YOUR TOTALS, SIGNIFY CANTLEY. NOW, NOBODY IS GOING TO GET A TON OF SNOW FROM THIS SYSTEM, BUT IT DOES LOOK LIKE WE AT LEAST ARE GOING TO SEE SOME OF THOSE HIGHER TOTALS LINING UP FOR AREAS CLOSER TO I-70. ANYWHERE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES POSSIBLE HERE. AND THEN FOR PRETTY MUCH HAMILTON COUNTY, EAST AND WEST AND SOME OF NORTHERN KENTUCKY AS WELL. YOU COULD GET UP TO ABOUT AN INCH OF SNOW THEN FOR THOSE AREAS THAT WIND UP SEEING MORE OF THAT WINTRY MIX, YOU’RE ONLY GOING TO PICK UP MAYBE A TRACE OR SO OF SNOWFALL. BUT AGAIN, IF THE TRACK CHANGES, THEN THIS IS ALSO GOING TO CHANGE. SO I WOULD SAY CHECK BACK IN OVER THE WEEKEND, MAKE SURE NO ALTERATIONS NEED TO BE MADE. BUT FOR TOMORROW, 40 IN THE MORNING OR FOR MIDDAY FOR THE PARADE AS IT STEPS OFF AROUND NOON IN THE AFTERNOON. IF YOU’RE HEADED OUT TO WIND FEST LOOKS PRETTY GOOD. 44 OUTSIDE AND THEN IF YOU WERE GOING TO FC CINCINNATI 80. TEMPERATURES BACK DOWN TO ABOUT 40. KEEP IN MIND IF YOU PLAN TO STAY OUT PAST 11:00 TOMORROW NIGHT, YOU’LL NEED TO BRING A RAINCOAT OR SOME SORT OF HEAVIER COAT AS WE START TO SEE THE INITIAL ROUNDS OF SOME RAIN AND SNOW MOVING IN. SUNDAY, OF COURSE, IS A WEATHER IMPACT DAY THAT WE COULD SEE SOME MORE FLURRIES AROUND HERE ON MONDAY. MIKE AND TERRY. ALL RIGHT, ALISO

RECOVERY WILL TAKE A LONG TIME. THAT’S A LOT OF WATER THERE. YEAH, THEY THEY JUST CANNOT CATCH A BREAK. I KNOW ONE STORM AFTER THE OTHER. MOISTURE. YEAH, IT’S TERRIBLE. IT’S A LOT GOING ON THERE. SPEAKING WEATHER HERE. WE’RE GOING TO SEE WINTER WEATHER MOVE THROUGH TODAY AND INTO TOMORROW. WHAT TIME ARE WE EXPECTING? I KNOW EVERYONE’S NOT SEEING THAT SNOW, BUT IT IS OUT THERE. YEAH, WE’LL HAVE TIMES OF WET SNOW THIS MORNING. WE COULD SEE SOME MODERATE LOCALLY HEAVY BANDS AT TIMES. BUT THAT’S GOING TO BE COMING THROUGH THROUGH THE MID MORNING HOURS. AND THEN WE’RE GOING TO START TO DRY THINGS OUT. I’VE GOT SOUTH DEARBORN CAMERA I PULLED UP HERE. AND IF YOU LOOK TOWARDS THE LIGHTS THERE IN THE PRACTICE FIELDS, YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW REALLY COMING DOWN OUT OF THAT DIRECTION THIS MORNING. NOT EVERYBODY WAKING UP TO SNOW, BUT WHERE IT IS FALLING, IT’S COMING DOWN AT A PRETTY GOOD CLIP AND IT IS GOING TO MAKE THINGS PRETTY SOGGY AS WE START OUT YOUR SUNDAY. OUR RADAR SHOWING A VERY ACTIVE SCENE ACROSS THE REGION. GOT A LITTLE AREA OF CLEARING, AT LEAST DRY SKIES FROM CRITTENDON UP TOWARDS WILMINGTON. BUT ANYWHERE YOU’RE SEEING BLUE ON THE MAP, THAT’S WHERE THE SNOW IS COMING DOWN THIS MORNING. SO, AGAIN, PRIMARILY A WET SNOWFALL HERE TODAY. JUST DUE TO THOSE TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING THROUGH HAMILTON COUNTY ACROSS THE NORTHWEST CORNER HERE FROM QUEENS TO ADDISON CHEVIOT, COOL RAIN FOREST PARK, WE’VE GOT STEADY MODERATE SNOWFALL. WHAT’S UP AS YOU HEAD OUT TOWARDS NORWOOD AND POINTS EAST OF THAT. BUT SNOW MOVING TO THE EAST SO THAT WILL OVERTAKE FOLKS IN EASTERN HAMILTON COUNTY HERE SHORTLY. RADAR HERE UP TO THE NORTH AND FRANKLIN COUNTY, SOME SCATTERED LIGHT SNOW FROM CONNERSVILLE TO LIBERTY AS FAR SOUTH AS BROOKVILLE AND THEN POINTS EAST INTO BUTLER AND WARREN COUNTY. WE’VE GOT STEADIER SNOW BANDS FROM RILEY UP TO OXFORD, FAIRFIELD, MONROE, MASON, LEBANON, MAINE, VELMA ROW AND WAYNESVILLE. AND WHERE WE’RE SEEING THE DARKER BLUES, THAT’S WHERE SNOW’S FALLING LITTLE BIT HEAVIER THIS MORNING. IT’S NOT TERRIBLY HEAVY, BUT DEFINITELY STEADIER THAN WHAT WE’RE SEEING ELSEWHERE. THEN ACROSS RIPLEY IN DEARBORN COUNTY, SOME STEADY LIGHT SNOWFALL THIS MORNING. THAT’LL CONTINUE SOUTH INTO OHIO AND SWITZERLAND. COUNTY, SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS, LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS THE 7175 SPLIT AREA ALL THE WAY OUT TOWARDS BROOKSVILLE, KENTUCKY. AND THEN WE’VE GOT SOME ONGOING LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS FROM HILLSBOROUGH TO PEEBLES THIS MORNING. A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK, THOUGH, AS YOU HEAD BACK TOWARDS WINCHESTER MOUNT OR A SO A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN PLACE UNTIL NOON TODAY. IT INCLUDES ALL OF OUR PURPLE COUNTIES. THIS IS WHERE WE’RE GOING TO BE SEEING THE BEST CHANCE FOR THOSE HIGHER SNOW TOTALS, ANYWHERE FROM ABOUT 1 TO 2 INCHES OF SOME SLUSHY ACCUMULATION. AND WE WILL SEE ACCUMULATING SNOW IN POINTS EAST. BUT I WOULD SAY BEST CHANCE OF SOME ISOLATED SLICK TRAVEL. A LITTLE BIT MORE SNOWFALL THAN WHAT WE’RE SEEING ELSEWHERE. WE’LL BE WITHIN THIS WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ZONE TODAY. SO YOUR FORECAST TODAY BRINGS A HIGH OF 38. WE’LL HAVE MORNING SNOW AND THAT’S GOING TO TRANSITION OVER INTO SOME EVENING SPRINKLES. JUST PLAIN OLD RAIN HERE THIS AFTERNOON, BUT OVERALL, A CHILLY DAY. YOU CAN SEE FUTURE CARS SHOWING THE SNOW STARTING TO TAPER OFF BY ABOUT SEVEN. ANYTHING THAT FOLLOWS THAT’S GOING TO BE JUST BE HIT AND MISS SNOW SHOWERS. SO BETWEEN NINE AND NOON, SOME SPOTTY SNOW SHOWERS, REALLY JUST FLURRIES BY THE TIME LUNCH TIME ROLLS AROUND AND FAIRLY CLOUDY WITH THOSE ISOLATED SPRINKLES AS YOU HEAD TOWARDS SUNDAY MADE BY MIDNIGHT. WE’RE LOOKING AT AN ADDITIONAL ROUND OF MOISTURE TO COME INTO THE AREA. SO WHEN THIS IS ALL SAID AND DONE, I WOULD SAY ABOUT A SLUSHY TRACE TO TWO INCHES FOR MOST FOLKS HERE WITHIN THE BLUE BAND SHE HAD SOUTH OF THE 7175 SPLIT, A COATING ON SOME OF THOSE GRASSY SURFACES, JUST WET CONDITIONS. THEN FOR TONIGHT, WE GET 34. THE LOW START OUT OF A WINTRY MIX, AND WE’LL SEE THAT TRANSITION OVER INTO SOME SNOW SHOWERS. SO TOMORROW BRINGS ADDITIONAL SNOW SHOWERS. MAY HAVE A QUICK DUSTING OUT OF SOME OF THOSE HIGHS OF ABOUT 38 AND IT WILL BE BREEZY TOMORROW. SO A BIG FEATURE CAST UP AT MIDNIGHT ON MONDAY. CAN SEE RAIN AND SNOW COMING IN SOMETIME BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND TWO. TEMPERATURES START TO DROP THROUGH MONDAY MORNING. THIS IS GOING TO TRANSITION OVER INTO SOME LIGHT SNOW. SO FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE, I WOULD SAY SOME LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS BETWEEN SIX AND SEVEN, MAYBE AS LATE AS EIGHT. BY 9:00, WE SHOULD BE UNDER DRY SKIES AND THEN SOME ADDITIONAL AFTERNOON LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE HERE. SO BETWEEN NOON AND THREE, NOTICING SOME SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS THE REGION. I THINK THOSE LINGER THROUGH ABOUT 6:00 ON MONDAY BEFORE WE START TO DRY THINGS OUT A BIT INTO TUESDAY. TUESDAY COULD BRING A FEW MORNING FLURRIES, BUT MOST OF US HERE LOOKING CLOUDY AND COLD WITH HIGHS OF ABOUT 36. UPPER 40 TO UPPER FIFTY’S WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY AND THEN SAINT PATRICK’S DAY. WE’VE GOT A WEATHER IMPACT IN PLACE. 55 DEGREES, RAIN. LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF RAIN. THIS POTENTIALLY COULD CHANGE OVER TO A WINTRY MIX ON SATURDAY. MODELS SPLIT ON WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN INTO EARLY NEXT WEEKEND. WE HAVE A CHANCE AND RIGHT NOW, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO GET COLD AGAIN AFT

SHEREE: THAT'S SCARY STUFF. YOU'RE HEARING ABOUT MORE RAIN TOMOOWRR, IT SUDDENLY DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A BIG DEAL. FOR PEOPLE WHO MAYBE EXPERIENCE FLOODING ISSUES, THE GROUND IS ALREADY WET, IT COULD BE MESSY TOMORROW. KEVIN: POOR DRAINAGE AREAS, AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL, IT TENDS TO FLOOD, GARAGES FLOODING, ET CETERA, THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE TYPES OF SETUPS, NOT WIDESPREAD, BUT A FEW COULD OVEPR PROBLEMATIC, TOMORROW AFTERNOON WITH ANOTHER GOOD SOAKING HEADED OUR WAY. A LOOK AT THE RADAR RIGHT NOW, IT'S QUIET OUTSIDE, HOWEVER, RAIN IS KNOCKING ON OUR DOORSPTE TONIGHT, IN FACT, SOME DOWNPOURS, A LITTLE TERHUND AND LIGHTNING ALLUT O TO OUR WEST AT THE MOMENT. YOU CAN SEE IT'S STARTING TO MOVE UP THE OHIO RER IIVN OUR DIRECTION. IT'S NOT TERRIBLY ORGANIZEDND A I DON'T THINK IT'S GOING TO LAST TERRIBLY LONG, BUT IT IS OUR INITIAL WAVE OF WET WEATR.HE IT'S ABOUT 100 MILES AWAY FROM US RIGHT NOW, SO PROBABLY MOVING IN HERE, YOU KNOW, AFTER 2:00 OR 3:00 A.M., DON'T BE SURPRISE IFFED YOU SUDDENLY SEE A FLASH OF LIGHTNING THROUGH THE SKYLIGHT OR SOMETHING OR MAYBE HEAR A RUMBLE OF THUNDER OUT THERE OVERNIGHT. HERE WE ARE WITH THE FLOOD WATCH TH'SAT IN EFFECT. NO SEVERE WEATHER, WE'RE NOT WORRIED ABOUT ANY OF THAT AROUND HERE. FLOOD WATCH FOR TOMORROW, THE POOR DRAINAGE AREAS, SOME OF ETH RAVINES, THE CREEKS, FIELDS, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU GOT ONE OF THOSE CREEKS IN YOUR BACKYA,RD PROBABLY GOING TO FILL UP WITH SOME WATER AGAIN. TH ERE IS A LOOK AT FUTURECAST, YOU CAN SEE, HERE WE ARE 3:00 A.M., HERE COME SOME OF THE DOWNPOURS OUT OF SOUTHEAST INDIANA INTO SOUTHWEST OHIO. DON'T BE SURPREDIS IF A RUMBLE OF THUNDER IS POSSIBLE. IT LOOKSET W FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE. EVEN IF IT'S NOT POURING, THE ROADS WILL BE WET. LEAVE YOURSELF SOME EXTRA TIME. LOOK AT MID MORNING TOMORROW, BOY, WTHA A SOAK.ER TOMORROW LOOKS A LOT LEIK LAST THUVERS DID WITH PRETTY MUCH A NONSTOP RAIN EVENT, A WASHOUT THROUGHOUT THE DAYND A MAYBE A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER IN THERE. NOTICE BY 3:00, THE BULK OF THE HEAVY RAIN HAS COME TO AN END. WHILE IT STILL LOOKS LOOK LIKE WE'LL HAVE WET ROADWAYS FOR THE EVENING, BY THENHE T HEAVIEST RAIN HAS MOVED ON. BY TOMORROW EVENING'S COMME,UT THERE WILL BE SOME LINGERING SHOWERS TO WORK WITH. AS WE GET IONT THE OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY, WE START TO DRY OUT. IT TURNS CHILLY ON WEDNESDAY. IT'S DRY DURING THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY AND THEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSY DAMORNING,E W GET A LITTLE BRUSH WITH WINTRY WEATHER. THIS DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A BIG DEAL, BUT WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING, I'M NOT GOING TO RULE OUT THE CHANCE IN ITS ENTIRETY FOR A FEW SLICK SPOTS HERE AND THERE, ESPECIALLY JUST BECAUSE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW BUT IT WILL HELP, WE WERE IN THE 60'S TODAY, 60'S TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY WE'LLE B IN THE S,40 SO THIS WILL HELP SOME INTO THURSDAY MORNING, BUT JUST KIND OF KEEP THAT IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND. WE SEE A SIMILAR SETUP THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY WITH RAIN, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF WINTRY WEATHER TO OUR NORTH. MORE ON THAT ON THE SEVEN-DAY, TOMORROWAN, OTHER SOAKING, ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN, A GOOD TBE WITH GUSTY BREEZES. THE WINDS COULD GUST 20, 35 MILES PER HOUR AT TIMES. RIGHT NOW IT'S QUIET. IFOU L YOOK AT THE BRZEEE, OR THE FLAG, THERE IS A SOUTH BREEZE OUT OF THE SOUTH AT 18, IT'S 57 HERE TONIGHT, TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO FALL TOO CHMU OVERNIGHT. IF YOU ARE WONDERING ABOUT THE OHIO RIVER, IT'S HIGH, BUT IT'S WITHIN ITS BANKS. IT'S AT ACTION STAGE. YOU NEED IT ABOUT 50 FEET TO START GETTING INTO SOME REAL PROBLEMS HERE, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE RIR.VE RIGHT NOW IT'S FORECAST TO HOVER AT THE HIGHER END OF YOUR ACTION RANGE. TOMORROW'S RAIN AT THIS POINT, IT LOOKS LIKE WE'LLET G LAST WEEK'S SURGE OF WATER DOWNSTREAM AND THEN WE'LL ADD MORE RAIN TO IT, SO BASICALLY IST' JUST KIND OF LIKE AN EBB AND FLOW HERE WHERE IT'S GOING TO GO UP AND START TO COME DOWN AND THEN PROBABLY COME BACK UP. RIGHT NOW IT'S NOT FORECAST TO FLOOD, I WOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THAT. TEMPERATURES GENERALLY BETWEEN 5 AND 60 AND NOT GOING TO MOVE MUCH TONIGHT. WE'LL SETTLE BACK INTO THE LOW 50S ONCE THE RAIN BEGINS TOWARDS MORNING TOMORROW. WE'LL GET DOWNO T ABOUT 54, MAYBE A RUMBLE OF THUNDER OVERNIGHT. TOMORROW ,61 A WEATHER IMPACT DAY, THE RAIN HEAVY, WINDY AND MILD, YOUR DAY PLANNER, AGAIN, WET PRETTY MUCH FROM START TO FINISH, ALTHOUGH THE EVENING COMMUTE WILL BE DRIER THAN THE MORNING. YOUR SEVEN-DAY FORECAST, 44 WEDNESY,DA 43 THURSDAY, ANOTHER WEATHER IMPACT DAY, AGAIN, CLDOU HAVE ANOTHER LITETL WINTRY MIX FOR OUR NORTHERN COMMUNITIES ON THURSDAY BEFORE A CHILLY START TO THE WEEKEND. MIKE: KEVIN, APPRECIATE

CITY OF CINCINNATI. ALRIGHT,T I IS 914 RIGHT NOW AND IF YOU ARE HEADED OUTSIDE TODAY, YOU’RE LOOKING AT A MUCH BETTER DAY THAN YESTERDAY. OH, YEAH, I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS WEEK FOR A LONG TIME. TIME. YES. WE ARE ALL I THINK SICK OF THE JUST WANTING A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK FMRO THESE JUST BRUTALLY FREEZING MORNING. I KNOW I KNOW WIND WILL STICK AROUND BUT IT WILL THIS IS A NICE SOUTHERN ONE. YES IT IS. WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS. I LOVE THIS TIMEF OEA YR WHEN I’M FORECASTING YOU SEE THOSE SOUTH WINDS AND YEAH, I CAN REALLY MAKE THINGS NICE IF THE SETUP IS, CORRECT. SO WE’RE LOOKING AT THAT TODAY. IT IS JUST GORGEOUS SUNDAY. LOOK AT THIS VIEW IN SOUTH DEARBORN SOAKING UP THAT SUNSHINE THERE NOT A CLOUD IN SIGHT. NOT A LOT OF WIND RIGHT NOW, BUT THOSE WILL PICK UP AS WE HAD TOWARDS THE SECOND HALF OF TODAY SO LOOKING. BREEZY WE’RE ALSO CONTINUING TO WATCH THE OHIO RIVER 46.5 TO FEE RIGHT NOW. THAT’S THE CURRENT STAGE THAT’S ACTION STAGE. WE’RE STILL EXPECTED TO CREST TO JUST SHY OF 49 FEET AT 7 AM ON TUESDAY, BUT LEVELS WILL CONTINUE TO RISE AND WE DO HAVE OUR ON SOME HEAVY RAIN FOR TUESDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON. IT’S GOING TO BE AN ALL-DAY RAIN EVENT. THIS RIVER IS GOINGO T STAY IN ACTION STAGE PAST TUESDAY. SO WE’RE GONNA HAVE TO SEE HOW MUCH WE GET WHERE THESE HEAVY BANDS SET UP BECAUSE THAT COULD ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTE AND KEEPING THE OHIO RIVER AT ACTION STAGE FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME OR POSSIBLY EVEN BUMPING THOSE LEVELS UP A LTLITE BIT MORE. SO WE’LL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THAT AS THINGS DEVELOP. BUT TODAY WE’RE GOING TO FUSOC ON THE POSITIVE BEAUTIFUL DAY. WE’VE GOT HIGH PRESSURE SKIES OVERHEAD STARTING TO NUDGE STEAWARD, SO WE’RE GONNA GET INTO THOSE SOUTH WINDS HERE. SO WE’RE GONNA BE IN THAT WARMER AIR. IT’S GOING TO BE QUITE BREEZY TODAY. BUT YEAH, IT’S GONNA BE A REALLY WARM BREEZE. YOU’VE GOT A HIGH OF 54 DEGREES. IT’S GONNA FEEL SUPER NICE AFTER THESE LAST COUPLE OF COLD DAYS. I THINK US TO AROUND 25 MILES PER HOUR AND TONIGHT. WE’RE ACTUALLY GONNA KEEP THE WIN. SO WHAT THAT’S GONNA DO. IT’S GOING TO KEEP OUR TEMPERATURES A BIT WARMER AS WE HEAD THROUGH TONIGHT. SO NOT AS COLD. WE’RE ACTUALLY GONNA BE ABOVE FREEZING TONIGHT. DESPITE THE SKIES THAT’S GOING TO SETS U UP FOR A PRETTY NICE DAY TOMORROW. WE’RE GONNA BE AT 61 DEGREES. IT’S GOING TO START OUT SUNNY FEELING PRETTY SPRING-LIKE BY THE AFTERNOON THAN THE CLOUDS ROLL IN AS YOU HEA TDOWARDS THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY. THEN OUR ATTENTION TURNS TO TUESDAY. SO WE’VE GOT THIS PRETTY STRONG COLD FRONT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM COMING IN THAT’S GOING TO START BRINGI USNG SOME RANGE HOURS AS EARLY AS TUESDAY MORNING. ARE LOOKING AT THESE TO MEOV IN FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE. I THINK WE’RE GOING TO BE SEEING SOME LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN THEN POSSIBLY BEEN SOME POCKETS OF HEAVIER RAINFALL HERE AS THIS COLD FRONT APPROACHES, BUTOU Y CAN REALLY CONSIDER TUESDAY A WATCH AT THIS POINT LOOKS LIKE AN ALL-DAY RAIN EVENT HERE RAIN VESMO OUT IN TIME FOR WEDNESDAY MORNING AND THAT COOLER AIR STARTS TO FOLLOW IT. I THINK THE RAIN’S GONE BEFORE THE COLD AIR CAN GET HERE. SO WHAT THAT MEANS? WE’RE NOT GOING TO SEE A CHANGE OVER TO SNOW. THAT’S THE GOOD NEWS, BUT IT IS GONNA GET A BIT COOL AS YOU HEAD INTOHE T MIDWEEK. HOW MUCH RAIN ARE WE GONNA BE SEEING? I THINK A A GOOD INCH MAYBE EVEN INCH AND A HALF SOME MODELS PUTTING OUT LOCALLY HIGH TOTALS AT AN INCH AND THREE QUARTERS. SO A REALLY GOOD AMOUNT OF MOISTURE COMING IN WITH THE SYSTEM HERE AGAIN, WE’LL HAVE TO WATCH THEHI ORIO VER AS WE HEAD INTO THE MIDDLE AND LATE WEEK AND THEN ANOTHER CHANCE FOR SOME WINTRY WEATHER IS YOU HEAD INTO THURSDAY COULD SEE SOME ICE MAYBE EVEN FREEZING RAIN TIMES EARLY AND LATE IN THE DAY MEGAN

SNOWFALL AT THE AIRPORT SEVEN INCHES OF SNOW THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND IT WAS STILL COMING DOWN EARLIER JUST ENDED SO WE’LL TAKE THE RAIN OVER THE SNOW, RIGHT? IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE. THAT’S YES. HI THERE KEVIN. DO YOU REMEMBER TWO WEEKS AGO? APPARENTLY THAT’S ALL BLUR THESE DAYS. THERE’S BEEN A LOT GOING ON RIGHT TWO WEEKS AGO THOUGH. WE WERE PREPARING FOR A BIGCE I STORM AROUND HERE. SO I WILL DEFINITELY TAKE THE RECORD SETTING WE SET OUR OWN RECORDS TODAY. WE HAD RECORD-SETTING RAINFALL HERE IN CINCINNATI THIS AFTERNOON OVER TWO INCHES RIGHT ALONG THE I-71 CORRIDOR. SO THIS IS A NICE SITE TO SEE TONIGHT. THE RAIN IS ALL COME TO AN END A NUMBER OF OUR SMALLER CREEKS AND THE TRIBUTARIES TTHA EMPTY INTO THE OHIO ARE STILL RISING BECAUSE THAT WATER TAKES A WHILE TO KIND OF DRAIN OFF THE LAND AND THEN GET DOWN INTO THOSE RIVER BASINS,UT B THERE’S STILL SOME AREAS IMPACTED BY HIGH WATER TONIGHT. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE RARAD FIRST THINGS FIRST A FEW FLURRIES. THAT’S ALL THAT’S LEFT RIGHT OVER MASON OUT TOWARDS DEERFIELD. IF THERE’S MONTGOMERY ROAD SOUTH LEBANON THE LOVELAND AREA WESTCHESTER. SO AGAIN OUT THERE MASON MONTGOMERY ROAD, MAYBE AEW F PASSING FLAKES ALSO UP TOWARDS WILMINGTON UP NEAR BLOOMINGTON. THERE’S BN AEE FEW FLURRIES DETECTED ON THE RADAR RIGHT NOW AND THEN TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OF CINCINNATI, TSHI IS SHOWING UP AS PINK YOU MIGHT THINK THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF ICE, BUT IT’S MOLYST JUST SOME DRIZZLE AND MIST I CAN’T RULE OUT A FLURRY IN HERE MOVING INTO ADAMS COUNTY NEAR WEST UNION BACK TO SOUTHERN PARTS OF BROWN COUNTY FROM GEORGETOWN TO RIPLEY THEN THE RIVER BACK THROUGH PARTS OF BRACKEN COTYUN THERE OVER TOWARDS THE BROOKSVILLE AREA WHERE THEY HAD SEOM SIGNIFICANT FLOODING ALONG THE LICKING RIVER EARLIER TONIGHT. SO THE STEADY IMPACTFUL SNOWS WENT NORTH OF 70 AS WE ANTICIPATED ALL THAT’S LEFT AROUND HERE ARE A FEW FLURRIES TONIGHT WITH NO ACCUMULATION EXPECTED. WE ARE WATCHING THOSE TEMPERATURES. THERE ARE 36 NOW IN MAYSVILLE WERE HOVERING AROUND FREEZING IN THE METRO IN THE UPPER 20S IN UTSOHEAST, INDIANA. WHAT WE’RE HOPING FOR IS THE WIND DRIES MOST PAVEMENT UP BEFORE IT HAS A CHANCE TO FREEZE OVER LOOK AT THE RAINFALL AMOUNTSAY TOD RIGHT ALONG THE I-71 CORRIDOR RIGHT THROUGH THE HEART OF THE TRI-STATE SOME OF THEEAERVI H AMOUNTS THERE OVER TWO INCHES ABOUT TWO AND A QUARTER INCHES OF RAINFALL RIGHT NOW HERE IN CINCINNATI. SO HOW’S THAT IMPACTING THE RIVERS GOODEW NS, THE MILL CREEK IS NOW FALLING FAST AND WILL BE WITHIN ITS BANKS HERE SHORTLY AND WILL CONTINUE TO DROP THROUGH THE MORNING AVOIDED SIGNIFICANT ISSUES ON THE MILL CREEK AS A RESULT. IT CAME UP. AAL HF A FOOT SHORT FORECAST NOW STILL SOME ISSUES ON THE GREAT MIAMI RIVER FOR EXAMPLE, THE RIVERS THAT EMPTY INTO THE OHIO. THEY ARE STILL GNGOI UP IN MANY INSTANCES. FORTUNATELY MOST OF THEM ARE EXPECT TOED STAY IN MINOR FLOOD SOMETHING WILL KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON AND I’M WATCHING THE OHIO. IT’S RISING TONIGHT. BUT REMEMBER IT TAKES A WHILE FOR ALL OF THIS TO DRAIN DOWN INTO THE RIVER. SO IT’S GOING TO KEEP RISING. PROBABLY THROUGHHE T WEEKEND RIGHT NOW FORECAST TO STAY BELOW FLOOD. SO FINGERS CROSSEDLL A THINGS GOOD THERE COULD HAVE SOME IMPACTS ON SOME OF THOSE STREETS, YOU KNOW, THE ONES THAT ALWAYS FLOOD THAT ARE CLOSER TO THE RIVER SO A FEW FLURRIES AND SNOW SHOWERS THROUGH THE NIGHT UYO HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF ICE FOR EXAMPLE ON YOUR CARS BECSEAU IT’S BEEN WET, RIGHT AND TEMPERATURES ARE DROPPING BELOW FREEZING. I’M NOT GOING TO RULE OUT ANY SLICK SPOTS OVERNIGHT TONIGHT BECAUSE TEMPERATURES ARE FALLING FAST,UT B I DON’T THINK IT’S EVERYWHERE NOW TOMORROW MORNING. WE’LL START WITH CLOUDS SHODUL TURN OUT TO BE A NICE WINTER DAY TOMORROW WITH SUNSHINE MUCH COLDER ONLY INHE T MID. BABIES AND THEN ANOTHER FASTOVGIN-M FRONT EARLY SATURDAY MORNING BRINGS REINFORCEMENTS OF COLD AIR TO START THE WEEKEND BEFORE WE WARM UP NICELY. IT’S 33 HERE IN CINCINNATI. LOOK AT THAT NORTHWEST WIND AT 26. SO WE’LL DROP DOWN THE REST OF THE NIGHT INTO THE MID-TWENTIES BEFORE THE SUN STARTS TO COME UP TOMORROW MORNING. SO THE RAIN HAS ENDED COLD WINDS ARE BLOWING A FEW FLURRSIE OR SNOW SHOWERS THROUGH THE NIGHT TOMORROW. CHILLY SUNSHINE MUCH COLDER ONLY 36. THAT’S A FULL 20 DEGREES COLDER THAN TODAY. THERE’S A LOOK AT YOUR DAY PLANNER. ALL RIGHT YOUR SEVEN DAY FORECAST SHAKING OUT LIKE THIS. HERE WE GO NEAR FREEZING ON SATURDAY. SATURDAY WILL BE A CHILLY DAY, BUTUS JT THE OPPOSITE ON SUNDAY SOUTH WINDS RETURN SUNSHINE. WE'R’ BACK INTO THE MID-50 SUNDAY 60S BY MONDAY. ALRIGHT, KEVIN. THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE APPRECIATE IT. UP

<p>On a cold, dark February night, the work for Helio Cabral has only just started—the latest in a series of long days that this plow driver has worked this year as Mother Nature continues to pummel most of the country with snow.</p>
<p>"I don't call it snow removal; I call it snow management," Cabral said as he maneuvered his pickup truck around a snowbank. </p>
<p>As a plow driver, Cabral relies on those big winter storms to make a living. But getting roads cleared of snow and ice can be a pretty dangerous job.</p>
<p>Cabral is often driving during the heart of any given snowstorm, which dramatically decreases visibility.</p>
<p>"It is [easy] to get into an accident," he added. </p>
<p>That’s where Anuj Sharma comes in. He’s a transportation researcher at Iowa State University and is trying to better equip plow drivers to navigate roads during white-out conditions.</p>
<p>The goal is to clear the roads as soon as possible and make sure there are no unexpected delays and improve the safety of the roadways.</p>
<p>Sharma’s team is in the process of collecting mountains of GPS data from plow drivers. The hope is to eventually build plows that are a bit more autonomous. Trucks can tell where road lanes are even if a driver can’t see the road, so snow removal can happen even in the worst conditions.</p>
<p>"Can we operate the snowplow when visibility is very low and can we keep cleaning the roads?" Sharma noted. </p>
<p>This could also help states be more efficient during snowstorms. Snow removal is an incredibly expensive process for states nationwide. Michigan spends about $40 million a year on snow removal. In Ohio, it costs about $50 million to plow roads, and Colorado spends about $70 million each year to keep roads clear.</p>
<p>"When winter hits, the first thing you hope is that the roads are clear. As soon as the snow stops, you want to go out of the house and have the roads cleared somehow," Sharma said about the study. </p>
<p>Even if you don’t live in a state that typically gets snow, the research Sharma and his team are doing could help plow drivers at places like airports, which could decrease the number of flight delays and cancellations that are often so frequent during the winter.</p>
<p>"For the snowplow drivers, if they don’t do their jobs, it's the rest of us who are left waiting."</p>

<p>From the Rockies to New England, an expansive system is dumping snow and creating an ice storm that brought dangerous conditions from Arkansas through Ohio.</p>
<p>The messy winter storm turned deadly, prompting treacherous road conditions as more than 85 million Americans are under winter weather warnings or advisories Friday.</p>
<p>Trucks and cars were at a standstill in northwest Kentucky. Near Houston, Texas, at least ten vehicles were involved in a pile-up after skidding across an icy roadway, making a travel nightmare for drivers near San Antonio.</p>
<p>A woman there said she was stuck on an interstate for more than 12 hours as police declared the road "not drivable." As of Friday afternoon, ice-covered and downed power lines left more than 300,000 <a class="Link" href="https://poweroutage.us/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">customers without electricity</a>. Nearly half of those outages were reported in Tennessee.</p>
<p>In New Mexico, authorities say two people died in weather-related crashes as more than three feet of snow piled up. In Alabama, one person was killed after the storm spun up a likely tornado, leaving several others injured. Forecasters say the severe weather there was on the warm side of the winter storm.  </p>
<p>In Memphis, a doorbell camera captured the moment a tree limb snapped under the weight of the ice. The National Weather Service is encouraging people to stay home as officials reported crash-after-crash on interstates. </p>
<p>New York City and Boston are under a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. tonight for freezing rain and sleet. Both cities were hit hard by heavy snow during last week's powerful nor'easter and could experience ice piling up to a tenth of an inch.</p>

IT’S HARD WORK. IT IS HARD WORK ANYONE WHO WAS ALREADY STARTED CLEARING THE DRIVEWAY OR YOUR CAR, YOU KW,NO IT’S HARD WORK. SO EXTRA SPECIAL BECSEAU OH MY GOODNESS. YEAH. IT’S JUST CAKED ON THERE IF YOU CAN LEND A HAND TO YOUR NEIGHBOR TODAY. YEAH, IT’S ALWAYAS GREAT THING TO DO. NOT EVERYONE HAS THE ABILITY TO TO SHOVEL OUT. SO I’D ALWAYS MAKES EVERYONE A LITTLE BIT HAPPIER HERE, ESPECIALLY AS WE GO. CHILLY CHILLY WEEKEND ONE OF THOSE SNOWY PLACES IS THE OAKLEY HYDE PARK AREA. THIS IS A YOUR PHOTO FROM KIM THOMAS OF HER STREET LOOKING OUT OVER HER NEIGHBORHOOD. THERE CAN SEE ALL THE SLEEP SNOW THAT ACCUMULATED HERE OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. THAT’S WHAT YOU’RE GONNA FDIN IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN OUTSIDE YET AND I WOULDN’T BLAME YOU IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN YET. YOU’RE GONNA FIND SEVERAL INCHES OF SLEEP. THIS WAS A BIG SLEET STORM. IT W AASLL SLEET. WE DIDN’T GET SNOW UNTIL THE VERY END. IT WAS ACTUALLY ONLY ABOUT AN INCH INCH AND A HALF. SO YOU’VE GOT ICE AND THEN ON TOP OF POW. LAYER OF SNOW SO YOU’RE GONNA HA VE TOIG D DOWN UNDERNEATH THAT BEFORE REALLY GIVES AWAY AND IF YOU WANT TO LET MOTHER NATURE HELP YOU OUT A BIT IF YOU JUST WAIT A DAY OR TWO THINGS ARE GONNA START TO FALL OUT A BIT MORE. SO THAT’S GONNA HELP TO US SOFTEN THAT ICE THAT SNOW B,UT WHAT’S AL GOING TO HPEAPN? IT’S GOING TO MELT SO THAT’S GOT TO GO BACK INTO THE RIVERS AND THE OHIO I GSOING TO RISE A BIT HERE IS WE HAVE THROUGHHE T NEXT SEVERAL DAYS CURRENTLY AN ACTION STAGE 43.62 FTEE THAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT. WE REACHED ACTION STAGE AND WE’RE EXPECTED TO THERE HERE IS WE HAVE THROUGH THE NTEX FEW. IT’S EXPECTED TO CREST ON MONDAY AT 7M A AT 47.8 FEET SO UNDER MINOR FLOOD STAGE, BUT THOSE USUAL PLACES ALONG THE RIVERFRONT COVINGTON PLACES ALONG KELLOGG AVENUE, YOU'R’ GONNA START TOOT NICE HIGHER WATER THERE WITH TTHA OCCURRING ACTION STAGE. SO LIVE RADAR SHOWING OUR DRY SKIES HAD A FEW LINGERING FLURRIES OUT OF SOME OF THOSE LOWER CLOUDS, BUT CLOUDS ARE GOING TO ERODE AWAY TODAY AND ATTH’S THANKS TO ARCTIC GHHI OVERHEAD. SO WE’VE GOT A COLD HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT’S GOINTOG BUS CLEAR AND IT’S GOING TO KEEP US REALLY CHILLY THROUGH TODAY AND TONIGHT. IT’S REALLY NOT UNTIL THIS HIGH STARTS TO MOVE EAST. ARE GOING TO GET BACK INTO THOSE SOUTH WINDS AND THINGS ARE GOING TO START TO IMPROVE TEMPERATURE-WISE. SO LOOKING AHEADO T THE REST OF TODAY CLOUDS TRYING TO MOVE ON OUT OF HERE. I DON’T THINK WE’RE GONNA GET DRI OF THEM COMPLETELY, BUT DEFINITELY GONNA BE SEEING A GOOD BIT OF SUNSHINE TODAY. SO LOOKING AHEAD TO A BRIGHT SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND RIGHT INTO THIS EVENING TOO CLEAR SKIES ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT WHEN YOU COMBINE THAT WITH A CALM CONDITIONS THE CLEAR SKIES. YOU’RE GONNA HAVE A RECIPE FOR A PRETTY COLD START TO TOMORROW5 2 TODAY AND THENOR F TONIGHT ABOUT 13 DEGREES WINDS TURNING TO THE THEY CONTINUE TOMORROW. <p>
Dry Beijing barely gets any winter precipitation, making this year's Winter Games the first to rely almost entirely on artificial snow. Organizers are touting the event's green credentials, but experts do worry about the environmental impact of such a massive snowmaking operation given the huge amounts of water and electricity it takes. At Yanqing north of Beijing, where organizers built the alpine ski venue from scratch, the slopes stand out as ribbons of white contrasting starkly against the surrounding brown hillsides. Snowmakers have also been deployed farther north in Zhangjiakou, which is hosting freestyle skiing, ski jumping and biathlon. All of it is the product of months of snowmaking using sophisticated European equipment. Here's a closer look at the Olympic snowmaking operation:HOW IT WORKSNatural snow is formed high up in the clouds when water vapor molecules cling to tiny particles like pollen or dust. In scientific lingo, these specks are dubbed nucleators. They create a snow nucleus that then attracts more water molecules to form snowflakes.Snowmaking equipment tries to duplicate this process, artificially, by spraying atomized water into the air along with mechanically created nucleators -- tiny ice crystals — that act as seeds for the manufactured snowflakes. This process has been around for decades: simulated snow was first used at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.SNOW GUNSTechnoAlpin won the bid to supply the Beijing games with snowmaking equipment, a contract worth $22 million. The Italian company has blanketed the slopes with 272 snowmaking fan guns and another 82 stick “lances” to produce “technical snow” for the Winter Olympics skiing and snowboarding venues. They're all hooked up to a system of high pressure pumps and pipes that carry water chilled by cooling towers up the slopes.TechnoAlpin's fan guns resemble small jet engines or oversized hair dryers, with nozzles spraying either atomized water or ice crystals mounted around the edge of a turbine. The guns, which can be aimed remotely using Bluetooth, blast the mixture dozens of meters into the air to cover broad downhill slopes.“And while it’s falling to the ground, snow is created,” said Michael Mayr, TechnoAlpin's China sales manager.Snow lances, meanwhile, are up to 10 meters tall and don't have fans, instead using gravity to carry the snowmaking mixture to the ground, making it a bit more like natural snowfall.WATER WORRIESBeijing and Zhanghiakou are both not far from the Gobi Desert and are “highly water stressed," China Water Risk, a Hong Kong-based consultancy, said in a 2019 report. The International Olympic Committee even noted the issue in its own 2015 evaluation of Beijing’s bid, saying the two districts “have minimal annual snowfall” and that the Winter Games would have to rely completely on fake snow. The “Beijing – Zhangjiakou area is becoming increasingly arid” because of climate change and other factors, the IOC said, adding that Beijing's bid “underestimated the amount of water" needed for snowmaking. The Winter Games are expected to use 49 million gallons of water, the equivalent of 74 Olympic swimming pools, to make snow.SUSTAINABILITYThe IOC now says snowmaking in Beijing was developed “to high technical and environmental standards."“The regions where the snow sport events will be held are constantly very cold," the IOC said in a statement. “This allows a very efficient snow production and does not require the constant reproduction of snow," like ski resorts elsewhere with fluctuating temperatures that cause snowmelt.Snowmaking can raise other environmental concerns, including over the chemicals sometimes used to help water freeze at higher temperatures, and the electricity needed to power the systems, which could mean a bigger carbon footprint. The IOC says all venues and facilities are powered by wind and solar energy and that no chemicals are used because of the region's cold temperatures.“Of course we are using a lot of energy of making snow,” Bernhard Russi, chairman of the International Ski Federation's alpine committee, said at a press briefing Saturday. But he added that the challenge is how to store the snow over the summer for the next season - something already being done in Europe, allowing resorts to save up to half of it.WHAT THE ATHLETES SAYAthletes have voiced their concerns about competing on fake snow, saying it brings new risks.Skiers and experts say manmade snow has more moisture, which means it ices up faster. Estonian Olympic biathlete Johanna Taliharm told the AP last month that artificial snow is “faster and more dangerous" because of the icing.Russi, the 1972 downhill gold medalist in Japan, acknowledged that “of course ski racers and we organizers, we prefer to have natural snow,” but added that using machines to make snow allows them to get it to the right “hardness” for each discipline. The IOC said artificial snow is used regularly at World Cup ski competitions and denied that it makes courses more dangerous,. "To the contrary, it creates a more consistent surface from the top to bottom, or start to finish, of a course. "As the Winter Games begin, Russi said “the snow we find right now on the courses is absolutely perfect, you cannot have it better."

<p>It was the kind of jaw-dropping performance the crowd had never seen.</p>
<p>Zeb Powell stole the show at the 2020 X Games in Aspen, Colorado, jumping and flipping his way right into fans' hearts and a first-place win.</p>
<p>But here's the thing, the rookie clutching the gold medal didn't even like snowboarding the first time he tried it.</p>
<p>"My teacher was mean, and she set me up backward. None of it was appealing to me," Powell tells Newsy. </p>
<p>For a while, he turned to skateboard, but his raw talent on the snow could not be ignored.</p>
<p>"He's always been flipping and turning, and he's always been on a board or something that will let him fly through the air," Valerie Powell, Zeb's mother, said. </p>
<p>His parents, who adopted him at five weeks old, started sending him from his North Carolina home to a snowboarding camp in Colorado. Powell stood out in a sport that traditionally is as white as snow.</p>
<p><b>Newsy's Clayton Sandell: </b>How many people were there doing this that looks like you?</p>
<p><b>Powell:</b> There might have been one other black person on the mountain.</p>
<p><b>Sandell:</b> You ever feel unwelcome in this sport?</p>
<p><b>Powell:</b> Luckily, like, no. I don't really have anything bad to say about anyone.</p>
<p>But it isn't just that Zeb Powell is one of the few black faces on the slopes. Sports commentator Selema Masekela has watched generations of snowboarders over three decades. He says the 22-year-old has game-changing skills he's never seen before.</p>
<p>"He's a jazz musician on a snowboard. He improvises.  It's like, oh, this is a type of snowboarding, an ability and an interpretation of the thing that is crazy, and so artistic and spontaneous, but highly athletic. And also, in the body of a young black kid who grew up in North Carolina?" sports commentator Selema Masekela tells Newsy. </p>
<p>Powell's first appearance at the X Games changed everything. He gained a ton of new followers and support on social media. Fans who maybe, for the first time, saw themselves.</p>
<p>"I heard a lot of them say they didn't even know that black people snowboarded, which is crazy. I mean, just coming from me, like I never even thought about it like that," Powell explained.  </p>
<p>Powell is still getting used to all the attention and all the selfies.</p>
<p><b>Sandell:</b> What's it like being recognized like that? </p>
<p><b>Powel: </b>That's always crazy. I just kind of fully embrace it try to talk to everyone.</p>
<p>But one thing he's sure of, he's using his new visibility to help make snowboarding much more diverse.</p>
<p>"I think the culture is just it's so fun to be around. I love it. I think a lot of people will love it," Powell says. </p>
<p>Inviting as many as he can to a sport that historically hasn't been very inviting.</p>
<p>"Recreating and luxuriating in the outdoors was sort of one of the last safe spaces that were built mostly specifically for white people on the back end of segregation in this country.  And so, it's going to take a very long time for those things to change," Masekela explains further. </p>
<p>Powell didn't place at this year's X Games, but his mom says what's important is that her son knows he has a gift.</p>
<p>"And you got to use it right and stay humble and give back, and so far, that's what he's done, which makes me extremely proud. Prouder than any medal he could ever win," Valerie Powell says of her son. </p>
<p>"It's exciting because he really does have an opportunity to be so much bigger than then snowboarding and to be like an icon for the sport in opening up accessibility and possibility to what the slopes can look like. It's like, you know, growing up watching Jordan or Kobe or Serena, and then to see it come along, in in a young Black man in America is just it just wildly powerful," Masekela says. </p>
<p>For now, Powell says he'll be spreading the word through the type of videos he makes with his friends, hot-dogging down the slopes and dropping into concrete canyons, making sure that even though he's one of the few Black pro snowboarders, Zeb Powell is not going to be the last.</p>
<p><i><a class="Link" href="https://www.newsy.com/?utm_source=scrippslocal&amp;utm_medium=homepage">Clayton Sandell at Newsy first reported this story.</a></i></p>

<p>
A major winter storm that already cut electric power to about 350,000 homes and businesses from Texas to the Ohio Valley was set to leave Pennsylvania and New England glazed in ice and smothered in snow Friday, forecasters said.A foot of snow was expected to accumulate in northern New York and northern New England, but it was the ice that threatened to wreak havoc on travel and electric service in the Northeast before the storm heads out to sea late Friday and Saturday, said Rick Otto, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in College Park, Maryland.“Snow is a lot easier to plow than ice,” he said.Even after the storm pushes off to sea late Friday and Saturday, ice and snow were expected to linger through the weekend because of subfreezing temperatures, Otto said.About 350,000 homes and businesses lost power from Texas to Ohio on Thursday as freezing rain and snow weighed down tree limbs and encrusted power lines, part of a winter storm that caused a deadly tornado in Alabama, dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the Midwest and brought rare measurable snowfall and hundreds of power outages to parts of Texas. The highest totals of power outages blamed on icy or downed power lines were concentrated in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas and Ohio, but the path of the storm stretched further from the South and Northeast on Thursday. Several schools and universities across the region closed on Friday as a result of poor weather conditions. Along the warmer side of the storm, strong thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes were possible Thursday in parts of Mississippi and Alabama, the Storm Prediction Center said.In western Alabama, a tornado that hit a rural area Thursday afternoon killed one person, a female he found under rubble, and critically injured three others. A home was heavily damaged.Tornadoes in the winter are unusual but possible, and scientists have said the atmospheric conditions needed to cause a tornado have intensified as the planet warms.Heavy snow the storm brought to Midwestern states isn't unusual, except the bigger-than-normal path of intense snow in some places, said Northern Illinois University meteorology professor Victor Gensini. With a warmer climate, people are forgetting what a Midwestern winter had long been like, he said."The only amazing winters I've been able to experience is through my parents' photographs of the 1970s," Gensini, who is 35, said. "This (storm) is par for the course, not only for the past, but winters current."More than 20 inches of snow was reported in the southern Rockies, while more than a foot of snow fell in areas of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. The flight-tracking service FlightAware.com showed more than 9,000 flights in the U.S. scheduled for Thursday or Friday had been canceled, on top of more than 2,000 cancellations Wednesday as the storm began."Unfortunately, we are looking at enough ice accumulations that we will be looking at significant travel impacts," Orrison said.At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, an American Airlines hub, an estimated 700 customers stayed Wednesday night in its terminals, according to an airport statement. Airport personnel provided pillows, blankets, diapers and infant formula to the marooned travelers. Airport officials said in the same statement that on Thursday night "we are ready to provide assistance in anticipation of customers who may need to stay in the terminals."The Ohio Valley was especially affected Thursday, with 211 flight cancellations at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Thursday. An airport spokeswoman told the Cincinnati Enquirer that all flights were canceled Thursday except for Delta Air Lines and American Airlines flights before noon.Nearly all Thursday afternoon and evening flights were canceled at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, and Friday flights could be as well, spokeswoman Natalie Chaudoin told the Louisville Courier-Journal. UPS suspended some operations Thursday at its Worldport hub at the airport, a rare move.Almost 300,000 homes and businesses were still without power as night fell Thursday, most of them in Tennessee and Ohio, according to the website poweroutage.us, which tracks utility reports. As night fell Thursday, almost 150,000 Tennessee customers were without power, including about 135,000 in the Memphis area alone — or one-third of the customers of Memphis Light, Gas &amp; Water.Power restoration could take days, said Gale Carson, the utility's spokeswoman. "It's not going to be a quick process," she said.Six people were taken to a hospital after a 16-vehicle crash on a Memphis highway. Two were in critical condition when taken to an emergency room after the crash on Austin Peay Highway, the Memphis Fire Department said on Twitter. Four others suffered non-critical injuries.Trees sagged under the weight of ice in Memphis, resulting in fallen tree limbs and branches. Parked cars had a layer of ice on them and authorities in several communities around the city warned of some cars sliding off slick roadways.Meantime, almost 70,000 were without power in Ohio, with large percentages of the population in southeastern Ohio in the dark. In Texas, the return of subfreezing weather brought heightened anxiety nearly a year after February 2021's catastrophic freeze that buckled the state's power grid for days, leading to hundreds of deaths in one of the worst blackouts in U.S. history.Facing a new test of Texas' grid, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said it was holding up and on track to have more than enough power to get through the storm. Texas had about 70,000 outages by Thursday morning, nowhere close to the 4 million outages reported in 2021. About half had their power restored by evening.Abbott and local officials said Thursday's outages were due to high winds or icy and downed transmission lines, not grid failures. In Dallas, where snow rarely accumulates, the overnight mix of snow and freezing rain had hardened Thursday afternoon into an icy slick that made roads perilous.South Bend, Indiana, reported a record snowfall for the date on Wednesday with 11.2 inches, eclipsing the previous record of 8 inches set on the date in 1908, said Hannah Carpenter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's office in Syracuse, Indiana.Once the storm pushes through, she said temperatures will see a big drop, with Friday's highs mostly in the upper teens followed by lows in the single digits in northern Indiana, along with bone-chilling wind chills. "It's definitely not going to be melting real quick here," Carpenter said Thursday morning. The frigid temperatures settled into areas after the snowy weather, with Kansas residents awakening to dangerous wind chills of around 15 below zero. In New Mexico, schools and nonessential government services were closed in some areas Thursday because of icy and snow-packed roads. The disruptive storm began Tuesday and moved across the central U.S. on Wednesday's Groundhog Day, the same day the famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter. The storm came on the heels of a nor'easter last weekend that brought blizzard conditions to many parts of the East Coast. ___Bleed reported from Little Rock, Arkansas. Associated Press writers Adrian Sainz in Memphis, Tennessee; Paul J. Weber in Austin; Jake Bleiberg in Dallas; Paul Davenport in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Seth Borenstein in Kensington, Maryland; Rick Callahan in Indianapolis and Jay Reeves in Alabaster, Alabama, contributed to this report.

<p>A major winter storm that already cut electric power to about 350,000 homes and businesses from Texas to the Ohio Valley was set to leave Pennsylvania and New England glazed in ice and smothered in snow Friday, forecasters said.</p>
<p>A foot of snow was expected to accumulate in northern New York and northern New England, but it was the ice that threatened to wreak havoc on travel and electric service in the Northeast before the storm heads out to sea late Friday and Saturday, said Rick Otto, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in College Park, Maryland.</p>

<p><!-- article/blocks/side-floater --></p>
<p>“Snow is a lot easier to plow than ice,” he said.</p>
<p>Even after the storm pushes off to sea late Friday and Saturday, ice and snow were expected to linger through the weekend because of subfreezing temperatures, Otto said.</p>
<p>About 350,000 homes and businesses lost power from Texas to Ohio on Thursday as freezing rain and snow weighed down tree limbs and encrusted power lines, part of a winter storm that caused a deadly tornado in Alabama, dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the Midwest and brought rare measurable snowfall and hundreds of power outages to parts of Texas.</p>
<p>The highest totals of power outages blamed on icy or downed power lines were concentrated in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas and Ohio, but <a href="https://apnews.com/article/winter-storm-landon-midwest-east-coast-updates-0fe0b3bec46d871658dc897777ca53d2" rel="nofollow">the path of the storm</a> stretched further from the South and Northeast on Thursday. Several schools and universities across the region closed on Friday as a result of poor weather conditions.</p>
<p>Along the warmer side of the storm, strong thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes were possible Thursday in parts of Mississippi and Alabama, the Storm Prediction Center said.</p>
<p>In western Alabama, a tornado that hit a rural area Thursday afternoon killed one person, a female he found under rubble, and critically injured three others. A home was heavily damaged.</p>
<p>Tornadoes in the winter are unusual but possible, and scientists have said the atmospheric conditions needed to cause a tornado have intensified as the planet warms.</p>
<p>Heavy snow the storm brought to Midwestern states isn't unusual, except the bigger-than-normal path of intense snow in some places, said Northern Illinois University meteorology professor Victor Gensini. With a warmer climate, people are forgetting what a Midwestern winter had long been like, he said.</p>
<p>"The only amazing winters I've been able to experience is through my parents' photographs of the 1970s," Gensini, who is 35, said. "This (storm) is par for the course, not only for the past, but winters current."</p>
<p>More than 20 inches of snow was reported in the southern Rockies, while more than a foot of snow fell in areas of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.</p>
<p>The flight-tracking service FlightAware.com showed more than 9,000 flights in the U.S. scheduled for Thursday or Friday had been canceled, on top of more than 2,000 cancellations Wednesday as the storm began.</p>
<p>"Unfortunately, we are looking at enough ice accumulations that we will be looking at significant travel impacts," Orrison said.</p>
<p>At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, an American Airlines hub, an estimated 700 customers stayed Wednesday night in its terminals, according to an airport statement. Airport personnel provided pillows, blankets, diapers and infant formula to the marooned travelers. Airport officials said in the same statement that on Thursday night "we are ready to provide assistance in anticipation of customers who may need to stay in the terminals."</p>
<p>The Ohio Valley was especially affected Thursday, with 211 flight cancellations at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Thursday. An airport spokeswoman told the Cincinnati Enquirer that all flights were canceled Thursday except for Delta Air Lines and American Airlines flights before noon.</p>
<p>Nearly all Thursday afternoon and evening flights were canceled at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, and Friday flights could be as well, spokeswoman Natalie Chaudoin told the Louisville Courier-Journal. UPS suspended some operations Thursday at its Worldport hub at the airport, a rare move.</p>
<p>Almost 300,000 homes and businesses were still without power as night fell Thursday, most of them in Tennessee and Ohio, according to the website poweroutage.us, which tracks utility reports. As night fell Thursday, almost 150,000 Tennessee customers were without power, including about 135,000 in the Memphis area alone — or one-third of the customers of Memphis Light, Gas &amp; Water.</p>
<p>Power restoration could take days, said Gale Carson, the utility's spokeswoman. "It's not going to be a quick process," she said.</p>
<p>Six people were taken to a hospital after a 16-vehicle crash on a Memphis highway. Two were in critical condition when taken to an emergency room after the crash on Austin Peay Highway, the Memphis Fire Department said on Twitter. Four others suffered non-critical injuries.</p>
<p>Trees sagged under the weight of ice in Memphis, resulting in fallen tree limbs and branches. Parked cars had a layer of ice on them and authorities in several communities around the city warned of some cars sliding off slick roadways.</p>
<p>Meantime, almost 70,000 were without power in Ohio, with large percentages of the population in southeastern Ohio in the dark. </p>
<p>In Texas, the return of subfreezing weather brought heightened anxiety nearly a year after February 2021's catastrophic freeze that buckled the state's power grid for days, leading to hundreds of deaths in one of the worst blackouts in U.S. history.</p>
<p>Facing a new test of Texas' grid, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said it was holding up and on track to have more than enough power to get through the storm. Texas had about 70,000 outages by Thursday morning, nowhere close to the 4 million outages reported in 2021. About half had their power restored by evening.</p>
<p>Abbott and local officials said Thursday's outages were due to high winds or icy and downed transmission lines, not grid failures.</p>
<p>In Dallas, where snow rarely accumulates, the overnight mix of snow and freezing rain had hardened Thursday afternoon into an icy slick that made roads perilous.</p>
<p>South Bend, Indiana, reported a record snowfall for the date on Wednesday with 11.2 inches, eclipsing the previous record of 8 inches set on the date in 1908, said Hannah Carpenter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's office in Syracuse, Indiana.</p>
<p>Once the storm pushes through, she said temperatures will see a big drop, with Friday's highs mostly in the upper teens followed by lows in the single digits in northern Indiana, along with bone-chilling wind chills. </p>
<p>"It's definitely not going to be melting real quick here," Carpenter said Thursday morning. </p>
<p>The frigid temperatures settled into areas after the snowy weather, with Kansas residents awakening to dangerous wind chills of around 15 below zero. In New Mexico, schools and nonessential government services were closed in some areas Thursday because of icy and snow-packed roads.</p>
<p>The disruptive storm began Tuesday and moved across the central U.S. on Wednesday's Groundhog Day, the same day the famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter. The storm came on the heels of a nor'easter last weekend that brought blizzard conditions to many parts of the East Coast. </p>
