A woman is dead after engaging in a shootout with officers at an apartment complex in Clermont County Friday evening. Just released body camera footage shows the moments police shoot back. “I could see the writing on the wall, I didn’t think it was going to go this far. I don’t think anyone expects this to happen," said Casey Greenberg, the neighbor who first called police to do a welfare check on the woman.Police came and left. Moments after police said they received a 911 call at around 5 p.m. from someone stating a woman was spotted in the parking lot of the Berry Lane Apartments on Business 28 in Miami Township with a gun."I need police at Berry Lane Apartments some lady just walked outside, shirtless, and just shot a gun in the air," Greenberg said.Additional callers said the woman fired off two rounds and then approached a resident. Here is that resident's 911 call: "She's coming at us with the gun. She's coming at you with a gun? Get out of there then OK." Miami Township officers arrived at the scene at around 5:02 p.m. While officers were at the scene, they said the woman fired a round at an officer. The officers advised her to drop her gun, but she did not."Some of these officers knew this female they had dealt with her in the past on different calls. They almost had a vested interest in it because they knew her," said Miami Township police chief Mike Mills.A police officer raised his weapon and at that time, the woman fired another round at the officer. The officer returned fire at the woman and she fell to the ground."The officer that had the vantage point raised up with his weapon and she fired another round. He engaged her with six rounds and she went down," Mills said.EMS arrived at the scene and provided care to the woman. Air Care was also called to the scene. EMS took her to Air Care and Air Care officials pronounced her dead.Right now, Miami Township police are not identifying the woman as they're still working to notify her family.Police said they do believe mental health may have been a contributing factor in the shooting."We have officers that are highly trained (for mental health), however, when somebody shoots at us, we don't have time. We've run out of options at that point," Mills said.As soon as the police department was notified they contacted Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Police said the veteran officer who fired shots at the woman will be placed on administrative leave following the bureau's investigation. He was not injured.

The school district police chief who served as on-site commander during last week's deadly shooting in Uvalde said Wednesday that he's talking daily with investigators, contradicting claims from state law enforcement that he's stopped cooperating. In a brief interview, Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo told CNN that he's speaking regularly with Texas Department of Public Safety investigators."I’ve been on the phone with them every day,” Arredondo said.Nineteen children and two teachers died in the attack at Robb Elementary School, the deadliest school shooting in nearly a decade. State officials have said 19 police officers waited outside the classroom where Salvador Ramos, 18, had opened fire, despite repeated pleas from children calling 911 for help.Travis Considine, chief communications officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday that Arredondo had not responded to DPS requests for two days, while other officers in the Uvalde city and schools police departments continue to sit for interviews and provide statements.Arredondo has not responded to multiple requests for comment from The Associated Press. The confusing and sometimes contradictory responses in the week since the deadly shooting continued Tuesday with the revelation that the exterior door used by the gunman was not left propped open by a teacher, as police previously said. They have now determined that the teacher, who has not been identified, propped the door open with a rock, but then removed the rock and closed the door when she realized there was a shooter on campus, Considine said. But, Considine said, the door that was designed to lock when shut did not lock.“We did verify she closed the door. The door did not lock. We know that much and now investigators are looking into why it did not lock,” Considine said.Investigators confirmed the detail through additional video footage reviewed since Friday's news conference when authorities first said that the door had been left propped open. Authorities did not state at that time what had been used to prop open the door.Video: Funerals begin for Uvalde victimsConsidine said the teacher initially propped the door open but ran back inside to get her phone and call 911 when Ramos crashed his truck on campus."She came back out while on her phone, she heard someone yell, 'He has a gun!', she saw him jump the fence and that he had a gun, so she ran back inside," removing the rock when she did, Considine said.Steve McCraw, the head of DPS, hadn’t said why the teacher initially propped open the door when it was first detailed Friday. The first mention of a door left propped open, which officials now say didn't happen, led to questions about the teacher's actions and whether she had made a horrific mistake.Since the shooting, law enforcement and state officials have struggled to present an accurate timeline and details of the event and how police responded, sometimes providing conflicting information or withdrawing some statements hours later. State police have said some accounts were preliminary and may change as more witnesses are interviewed.San Antonio attorney Don Flanary told the San Antonio Express-News that the Robb Elementary School employee, whom he’s not naming, first propped open the door to carry food from a car to a classroom, and that she immediately moved to close it when she realized the danger."She kicked the rock away when she went back in. She remembers pulling the door closed while telling 911 that he was shooting," Flanary told the newspaper."She thought the door would lock because that door is always supposed to be locked,” Flanary said.Video: Flowers, tears as Bidens stop at Uvalde memorialFlanary did not immediately return telephone messages left at his office from The Associated Press.Later Tuesday, the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas, which represents police officers, urged its member officers to cooperate with "all government investigations" into the shooting and police response and endorsed a federal probe already announced by the Justice Department. The organization was also sharply critical of the constantly changing narrative of events that has emerged so far."There has been a great deal of false and misleading information in the aftermath of this tragedy. Some of the information came from the very highest levels of government and law enforcement," CLEAT said. "Sources that Texans once saw as iron-clad and completely reliable have now been proven false."

Authorities in Georgia hunted Saturday for a man who remained at large hours after he was suspected of gunning down three men and a woman in a suburban neighborhood south of Atlanta.Andre Longmore, 40, is believed to be armed and dangerous, Hampton Police Chief James Turner said during a news conference. The shootings happened late Saturday morning in a subdivision in Hampton, a city of roughly 8,500 people.Video above: Sheriff says all hands on deck in the search for the alleged shooterOfficials released few details about the killings. Turner said detectives were investigating at least four crime scenes near one another in the same neighborhood. He said Longmore is a Hampton resident, but declined to discuss a possible motive. The suspect remained at large more than five hours after the killings, and authorities vowed to keep searching until he was in custody.“We’ve done an exhaustive search in the general area and we’re now widening that a little bit,” Turner told reporters.Investigators were also on the lookout for a Black GMC Acadia SUV that they believe Longmore might be driving.Longmore doesn’t appear to have a listed phone number and The Associated Press could not immediately find a family member or attorney who could speak on his behalf.Authorities didn't release the victims' names, saying they were working to notify their families.Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said his office is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Longmore's arrest and prosecution. He also addressed Longmore directly, saying: “Wherever you are, we will hunt you down in whatever hole you may be residing in and bring you into custody. Period.”Located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Atlanta, Hampton is home to the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Georgia's racetrack for NASCAR events.Law enforcement agencies throughout the Atlanta area and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the manhunt and investigation. The shootings marked the 31st mass killing of 2023, taking the lives of at least 153 people this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in a partnership with Northeastern University.

<p>Authorities didn't release the victims' names, saying they were working to notify their families.</p>
<p>Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said his office is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Longmore's arrest and prosecution.</p>
<p>He also addressed Longmore directly, saying: “Wherever you are, we will hunt you down in whatever hole you may be residing in and bring you into custody. Period.”</p>
<p>Located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Atlanta, Hampton is home to the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Georgia's racetrack for NASCAR events.</p>
<p>Law enforcement agencies throughout the Atlanta area and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the manhunt and investigation.</p>
<p>The shootings marked the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/mass-shootings-list-us-killings-3561c0404a9f23a2510859174ff67847" rel="nofollow">31st mass killing of 2023</a>, taking the lives of at least 153 people this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in a partnership with Northeastern University. </p>

<p>Seven people were reportedly killed and more than 30 people were wounded at the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois. </p>
<p>Authorities said the gunman shot more than 70 rounds into the crowd at random on Monday. </p>
<p>Children are among the wounded, but no child has died, authorities said. </p>
<p>Investigators believe the 21-year-old alleged shooter spent weeks pre-planning the attack.</p>
<p>"The rifle was purchased in Illinois and the information we have thus far is that it appears to have been purchased legally," said Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.</p>
<p>Covelli added that the gunman was wearing women's clothing at the time of the attack in an effort to conceal his identity. Following the shooting, Covelli said the shooter blended into the crowd and went to his mother's house. </p>
<p>He borrowed her car and was eventually pulled over and arrested. </p>
<p>"At this point, we have not developed a motive," Covelli said.</p>
<p>Disturbing videos of the alleged shooter have emerged online. Covelli said they were not aware of the videos prior to the attack, but they are looking into them. </p>

At least nine people suffered gunshot wounds in a mass shooting in Cleveland early Sunday morning, according to local police, who believe a single suspect fired on a group of people before fleeing the scene. No one has died as a result of the shooting, which Cleveland Division of Police Chief Wayne Drummond said happened in the city’s Warehouse District at 2:25 a.m., when an unidentified individual shot at a group of people. The suspect then fled the scene that Jennifer Ciaccia, an agency spokesperson, described in a statement as “chaotic.”Cleveland officers were already nearby as part of a routine detail in the area, the chief said. They responded immediately and gave medical aid to the victims, who include seven men and two women ranging in age from 23 to 38, Drummond said.No officers were hurt, Ciaccia said.Related video above: Can mass shootings be prevented?Victims were shot in places ranging from their knees and legs to their feet and arms, according to a news release.None of the victims’ injuries appeared to be life-threatening, according to Ciaccia.MetroHealth Medical Center confirmed it received nine victims, with spokesperson Dorsena Koonce telling CNN that, as of early Sunday afternoon, two victims had been treated and released, five were in the emergency department, one was in the operating room and another had already had surgery.Police are following leads and will “continue to work extremely hard to try to find” the person responsible, said Drummond. At that time, investigators had “no indication” that anything of note had taken place before the suspect opened fire. Investigators said they were also reviewing evidence and video and have interviewed victims, a statement from Ciaccia says.Police have described the suspect as a Black man wearing dark clothing. The shooting is just the latest example of America’s struggle with gun violence, as mass shootings continue largely unmitigated. There have been at least 365 mass shootings so far in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which, like CNN, defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot, excluding the shooter. US Rep. Shontel Brown – who represents Cleveland, part of Ohio’s 11th District – thanked first responders in a statement and urged Congress to do more to stem the crisis, specifically calling for universal background checks, banning assault weapons and addressing gun trafficking, among other measures.“Gun violence is devastating Northeast Ohio and Clevelanders deserve to be safe,” Brown’s statement said. “This epidemic is tearing at the fabric of our communities, and it will not end without significant legislative action.”Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb expressed gratitude that no one was killed in the shooting but said it marked a “tragic and sad day” that highlights the United States’ “massive gun problem.”

More than a year after the bodies of Maggie Murdaugh and her son Paul were discovered on the prominent Lowcountry family's property in Colleton County, South Carolina, charges in the double homicide may be filed as soon as this week.On Tuesday, family members were told disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh would be charged this week in the murder of his wife and son. Video above: Murdaugh murders investigation: 1 year later Family members were notified by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, as a courtesy, Tuesday morning. John Marvin Murdaugh, Alex Murdaugh's younger brother, told WCIV SLED agents did not tell the family what charges Murdaugh will face but they would be in connection to the double homicide.Alex Murdaugh told authorities from the onset he discovered the bodies of his wife and son after they were shot to death the night of June 7, 2021. Murdaugh was eventually charged with dozens of fraud-related crimes after allegations he stole millions of dollars from his clients and from the family of the former Murdaugh housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, who died after a fall at the Murdaugh home.Alex Murdaugh's attorney Jim Griffin provided sister station WJCL the following statement:"We have not been advised by anyone associated with law enforcement or the Attorney General's office that Alex will be charged with murder. I am aware that SLED advised the family that they intend to seek murder indictments from a grand jury later this week. We won't have any comment until charges are actually brought against Alex."This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

A father who was preparing to walk his eldest daughter down the aisle. An aspiring actor who appeared as an extra in the "Creed" movie franchise. A teenager who tried to help a wounded friend. These are the stories of those killed in the all-too-familiar thrum of another mass shooting.Five people in a working-class neighborhood of Philadelphia were gunned down Monday in what became the deadliest among a rash of U.S. shootings that occurred around the July Fourth holiday. A gunman in a ski mask and body armor appeared to fire on people at random while they were on the street or in a car, authorities said.Ralph Moralis, 59; Joseph Wamah Jr., 31; Dymir Stanton, 29; Lashyd Merritt, 21; and DaJuan Brown, 15, were killed in the shooting. Four others, including two 2-year-old boys, were also wounded. The alleged shooter was arraigned Wednesday on multiple charges including five counts of murder. The victims' families remain shattered as they now cope with the feeling of senseless loss.Ralph Moralis: The "go-to-guy"Ralph Moralis' daughter was to be married Sunday. But instead of focusing on the joy of her wedding day, she is now planning her father's funeral, said Karen Gleason, his sister-in-law.All the joy they had been feeling leading up to the momentous occasion was torn away when Moralis was shot outside the childhood home where he lived. The entire family, including Moralis' two brothers, have not stopped crying since hearing the news."It's unfathomable," she said. "It's so unbelievable that you can't even go out your front door."The 59-year-old had been prepping for weeks on what he would wear, making sure he wouldn't mess up during his first child's wedding rehearsal. Moralis was always the one willing to go out of his way to help."He was the go-to-guy whether you needed a bike put together for one of the kids or his cousin was saying: 'I need to get to Florida. Can you drive me?'" she said. "He would do that. He was just there always for family and always willing to help."Joseph Wamah Jr.: Aspiring actor with deep artistic talent Joseph Wamah Jr. knew acting was his calling. The 31-year-old studied psychology at Chestnut Hill College but he became active in the local Philadelphia acting community, said close friend Terrance Harden. He even got a role as an extra in one of the "Creed" movies, starring Michael B. Jordan.Harden, who has known Wamah since high school, said the two bonded over their love of filmmaking. Before Wamah was found dead inside a home early Tuesday, Harden had imagined the two would grow old as friends and achieve the level of success that they both wanted for each other."With such a great attitude, such a positive outlook on life, it almost seems like good fortune ought to come your way," he said. "That's why it was so hard to believe that this could have happened to him."Wamah's twin sister Josephine and another sister, Jasmine, were full of anger Wednesday as they spoke at a news conference of a brother who had a smile and hug for everyone."I just still can't believe that my brother is gone. And I just don't understand why this happened. He was a kind soul. He was nice to everyone," Josephine Wamah said.Wamah also loved to cook — despite having little culinary talent. But his real gift was as an artist, his sisters said."He had the worst cooking. We still ate it because he just... he tried. He couldn't cook, but he could sketch his butt off," Josephine Wamah said. "It was so detail-oriented and so passionate. It was so rooted and down to earth. It was just spiritual. You could feel this man's emotions in every brushstroke."Josephine Wamah said she plans to find all of her brother's artwork and share his talent with the world."I just don't understand how someone could just do that to my brother. I really loved him," she said.Lashyd Merritt: A good kid Lashyd Merritt's mother told WPVI-TV in Philadelphia that her son was a good kid who loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He loved buying them gifts at Christmas.Marie Merritt said Lashyd Merritt, who would have been 22 in September, was out buying a snack while on a work break Monday. "I don't understand why people just — whatever anger they have within themselves— I don't understand why someone in the neighborhood would have that type of stuff, like guns -- I don't understand that," Marie Merritt said. "And you're just taking good people away,"She wants the suspected shooter to "rot in jail." She also is thinking about how her son would feel."(My heart) is broken. I feel him saying, 'Why me?'"Dajuan Brown: Killed while helping a friend DaJuan Brown's mother, Nashaya Thomas, told WCAU-TV her teenage son was walking to a store when the gunfire started. Brown was helping a 13-year-old friend who had been shot twice in the legs when he was gunned down.He was someone people couldn't help but fall in love with."He lost his life trying to do a selfless act," she said, "and that's how he was when he was here."

MASS SHOOTINGS HIT OUR HIT AREAS RANGING FROM PHILADELPHIA TO TEXAS. AND IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL, NINE PEOPLE WERE SHOT AT A HOLIDAY GATHERING IN D.C. THEY ARE ALL EXPECTED TO SURVIVE FREE JACKSON IN WASHINGTON WITH THE PRESIDENT’S REACTION TO THIS LATEST STRING OF GUN VIOLENCE, PRESIDENT BIDEN IS ONCE AGAIN URGING CONGRESS TO STRENGTHEN GUN LAWS AFTER A SPATE OF MASS SHOOTINGS OVER THE EXTENDED JULY 4TH HOLIDAY. A VIOLENT AND DEADLY JULY 4TH WEEKEND ACROSS AMERICA. EVERYBODY OUT THERE FIRED BACK. FIVE PEOPLE WERE KILLED AND TWO CHILDREN INJURED IN PHILADELPHIA MONDAY NIGHT. POLICE ARE USING THIS SURVEILLANCE VIDEO AS PART OF THEIR INVESTIGATION. AUTHORITIES SAY THE 40 YEAR OLD SUSPECT WEARING BODY ARMOR WALKED ON THE STREET WITH AN AR 15 STYLE RIFLE AND A HANDGUN, FIRING RANDOMLY. IT JUST MAYHEM. YOU CAN’T EXPLAIN IT THE WAY IT WAS APPLIED ALL OVER THE PLACE. I HEARD A YOUNG MAN SCREAMING LIKE, HELP OUT. WELL, PLEASE HELP THESE PEOPLE WALKING BY. IT’S A DISGRACEFUL, BUT ALL TOO COMMON SITUATION IN AMERICA IN A SEPARATE, DEADLY SHOOTING. POLICE IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS, SAY THREE PEOPLE WERE KILLED, EIGHT OTHERS INJURED DURING A 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION. THAT SENSELESS MAN, YOU KNOW, YOU HAD PEOPLE COME IN TO A FAMILY ENVIRONMENT WITH GUNS AND START SHOOTING RANDOMLY DELIVERING REMARKS TO THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION. PRESIDENT BIDEN CALLED FOR IMPROVED GUN LAWS, INCLUDING A BAN ON ASSAULT WEAPONS AND HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES. CONGRESS NEEDS TO STEP UP. PASS COMMON SENSE GUN SAFETY LAWS TO PROTECT OUR KIDS AND EDUCATE. AND BY THE WAY, ARMING TEACHERS IS NOT THE ANSWER. ARMING TEACHERS, NOT THE ANSWER. NATIONWIDE, COMMUNITIES ARE SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS TO GUN VIOLENCE. PRESIDENT BIDEN IS ALSO RENEWING HIS CALL FOR LAWMAKERS TO ENACT UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND END GUN MANUFACTURERS IMMUNITY FROM LIABILITY. IN WASHINGTON, BRIDGE, JACKSON. BACK TO YOU. AND TODAY, AUTHORITIES HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SUSPECT IN MONDAY’S MASS SHOOTING IN PHILADELPHIA THAT CLAIMED FIVE LIVES. ITS 40 YEAR OLD KIM BRADY CARRIKER. HE WAS ARRAIGNED THIS MORNING ON MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING MURDER. HE WILL STAY IN JAIL AS BAIL WAS DENIED. ALL RIGHT. WE NEED TO GET A CHECK OF THE FORECAST. SOME PEOPLE GETTING BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS, OTHERS JUST TAKING THE WEEK TO COAST. WE DON’T BLAME YOU. YOU MIGHT WANT TO SPEND SOME OF THAT TIME AT A POOL BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO BE HOT. YEAH, HOT. AND HUMID. SO IT FEELS EVEN WARMER OUT THERE, WHICH IS EVEN WORSE FOR OUR REGION. AND THAT’S ALSO WHEN YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE SURE TO STAY HYDRATED BECAUSE THAT HUMIDITY CAN REALLY PULL A LOT OF THE YOU CAN REALLY BRING DOWN YOUR ENERGY AND BRING UP SOME HEALTH RISKS OUT THERE AS WE LOOK OUTSIDE. YOU ALSO WILL NOTICE SOME HAZINESS AND THAT’S NOT THIS TIME FOR A WILDFIRE SMOKE THAT IS, IN FACT, FROM THAT HUMIDITY THAT MANY OF US ARE DEALING WITH. TEMPERATURES ALREADY HERE AT NOONTIME AT 87 IN CINCINNATI, DELL HIGH, 88 IN HAMILTON AND IN OXFORD, 83 OUT THERE IN BATESVILLE AND 84 AND DRIVER, KENTUCKY. BUT AS WE LOOK AT THE DEW POINTS, WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THEM A LOT, BUT USUALLY BRINGS UP WHENEVER WE HAVE THIS HUMIDITY AROUND AND WE ARE IN THE UPPER SIXTIES AND LOWER SEVENTIES WITH DEW POINTS ANY TIME WE’RE REALLY INTO THE UPPER SIXTIES, EVEN WITH DEW POINTS THAT MEANS IT’S A VERY MUGGY FEEL. AND SO HEAT INDEX VALUES FEELING LIKE WE’RE INTO THE LOWER NINETIES, 91 IN CINCINNATI, HAMILTON 90, HARRISON 92. THE FEELS LIKE IN FLORENCE AND WE STILL HAVE MORE TO CLIMB OUT THERE FOR TODAY AS WE MAKE OUR WAY NEAR 90 DEGREES FOR ACTUAL TEMPERATURES THOUGH I HAD MY FORECAST. WE’RE TALKING MORE ABOUT THAT HEAT HUMIDITY TODAY AND WHEN MORE STORM CHANCES COULD B

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire along several blocks in southwestern Philadelphia before police apprehended him on Monday evening – a shooting that’s left four people dead and two children injured, authorities said.A second person who investigators believe picked up a gun and returned fire also was in police custody following the violence in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle M. Outlaw said.Investigators don’t immediately know what led to the shooting, in which several vehicles were damaged and officers were running after the first suspect even as he was firing, Outlaw said.“We have absolutely no idea why this happened. … But thank God our officers were here on scene and responded as quickly as they did,” Outlaw said.Video below: Man arrested after Philadelphia shooting was wearing bulletproof vest, police sayThe names of neither the detainees nor those shot were immediately released. Three of the four killed ranged in age from 20 to 59, police said. The age of the fourth wasn’t immediately available.Outlaw described the conditions of the two children who were shot – ages 2 and 13 – as stable. The first suspect is a 40-year-old man who had an AR-style rifle and a handgun, said Outlaw, who did not have an age for the second detainee.Earlier, police said eight people had been injured.Officers became aware of Monday’s shooting around 8:30 p.m. when they were flagged down at an intersection and found some gunshot victims, Outlaw said.“As they were scooping up victims and preparing them for transport to the hospital, they also heard multiple gunshots up the street,” Outlaw said.“At some point they locate the suspect, and they were able to pursue this male who was on foot. The officers were on foot as well, and they followed or pursued this male,” she said.Officers eventually apprehended that suspect in an alley.“When they did, this male was wearing a bulletproof vest with multiple magazines in the vest. He also had a scanner and an AR-style rifle and a handgun underneath his body,” Outlaw said.About 50 spent shell casings littered the shooting scenes, she said.“At this point, we don’t see a connection to any of the victims and the shooter,” Outlaw said.“We’re canvassing the area to get as much as we can to identify witnesses, to identify where cameras are located, and do everything that we can to figure out the ‘why’ behind this happening,” Outlaw said. The shooting occurred a day after gunfire erupted at a holiday weekend block party in Baltimore, about 100 miles to the southwest, killing two people and wounding 28 others. The wounded in that shooting ranged in age from 13 to 32, with more than half of them minors, according to officials. The Philadelphia violence marks the country’s 29th mass killing in 2023, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University. So far this year, the nation has witnessed the highest number on record of mass killings and deaths to this point in a single year. There have been more than 550 mass killing incidents since 2006, according to the database, in which at least 2,900 people have died and at least 2,000 people have been injured. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

<p>PHOENIX  — Two people were killed, and five others, including two Phoenix police officers, were injured in a shooting Sunday night outside a Days Inn hotel.</p>
<p>"My daughter and I heard the noises and thought someone was doing fireworks," said Wes Williams.</p>
<p>Williams left his daughter in the room with his adult son and checked out the commotion.</p>
<p>"I was in the hallway coming out. That's how I got shot," said Williams.</p>
<p>The high-caliber rounds grazed the father's jaw and forearm.</p>
<p>"I was just holding a towel on here and bleeding out my arm," said Williams, gesturing to his bruised cheek. "It didn't hit any muscle it just went right -- the door saved me."</p>
<p>The door also saved Timothy Dahling.</p>
<p>"We came out the door we saw a guy with a flashlight, and we didn't know what to do," said Dahling. "And all of a sudden we heard, pop pop pop."</p>
<p>Phoenix police say the suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Isaiah Steven Williams. </p>
<p>According to police, surveillance video reportedly showed the gunman wearing tactical gear and armed with a semi-automatic rifle leaving a room at the motel and going on a shooting spree.</p>
<p>He is shown firing into the motel before turning the rifle at a car pulling into a parking lot. A man and woman inside were killed, police said.</p>
<p>Police said the shooter was reportedly seen throwing a Molotov cocktail at the nearby restaurant, but it did not ignite.</p>
<p>When officers arrived, they were met with gunfire, police said.</p>
<p>One officer was struck in the shoulder, and a second officer was injured by shrapnel.</p>
<p>Police said after exchanging gunfire with police, he appears to have taken his own life.</p>
<p>Police said incendiary devices, extra magazines, and a gas mask were found near Williams.</p>
<p>Dahling said he got a good look at Williams.</p>
<p>"I think it was a gas mask and a helmet," said Dahling. "He was dressed in all black."</p>
<p>"He was geared up to kill people," exclaimed Dahling.</p>
<p>Police have not released the names of the two victims who died.</p>
<p>Three other bystanders were treated at local hospitals and were later released, police said.</p>
<p>"It's devastating, it really is. It's heartbreaking," said Sara Mann, who was staying inside the hotel.</p>
<p>Mann was staying at the Days Inn for a business trip when she heard the gunfire. She immediately ran and hid in the shower.</p>
<p>She is now heading home to Texas, worried about PTSD.</p>
<p>"He was right on top of me. He knocked on my window," said Mann, recalling the suspect's shooting spree. "It's hard. You hear sounds and you're just nervous."</p>
<p>Williams said he is already on anxiety medicine after his first encounter with life-altering violence in 2008.</p>
<p>"I was involved in a home invasion where I got stabbed twice and killed both the intruders," said Williams."My sister said I'm a cat. I got nine lives."</p>
<p>Wes, Sara, and Timothy are now left wrestling with the dueling emotions.</p>
<p>"I guess I feel lucky... I'm not dead," said Williams.</p>
<p>But each of them knows that others are not lucky.</p>
<p>"It could've been anybody," said Mann, holding back tears.</p>
<p>Williams told ABC affiliate KNXV that the biggest challenge now is not his numb ear. It is the financial fallout.</p>
<p>He had to find a new hotel to stay at with his children. His son's car was also completely shot up in the spree.</p>
<p>A <a class="Link" href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/victim-of-mass-shooting-in-phoenix?utm_source=facebook&amp;fbclid=IwAR1qQCIeUWRvmU3zKHYIJ7rJWCTWT4EbvmPq4P2ql4GJ8A6B1y37SyzVoOM">fundraiser has been started</a> to help Williams and his kids out.</p>
<p>Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the attack.</p>
<p><i><a class="Link" href="https://www.abc15.com/news/region-phoenix-metro/north-phoenix/victims-of-north-phoenix-shooting-spree-wrestle-with-trauma">Zach Crenshaw at KNXV first reported this story.</a></i></p>

As many as 30 people were shot in a mass shooting overnight in Baltimore, Maryland, police said.Baltimore Police Department Acting Commissioner Rich Worley said officers received multiple calls just after 12:30 a.m. for a mass shooting in the Brooklyn neighborhood, where there was a block party underway.Worley said officers found an 18-year-old woman dead at the scene. Nine others were taken to hospitals, and as many as 20 others arrived at hospitals across the region on their own.A 20-year-old man also died, and three others were in critical condition.Worley said a suspect is not in custody, but that investigators were reviewing video and talking to witnesses to try to identify a suspect. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott implored the public to provide information."This is an absolute tragedy that did not have to happen," Scott said. "Anyone that knows anything about what happened here, anything about this mass shooting, to come forward with any piece of information. Treat this as if it was your family and how you would want people to treat it as as if you were mourning, as if this were an event happening in your community."Residents told our sister station WBAL TV there was a large gathering in the neighborhood before they heard what sounded like fireworks, which they later learned were gunshots. No further information was immediately released. This report will be updated.Raw video below: Police news conference in its entirety

At least six people were wounded in a shooting at a school in Oakland, California, on Wednesday, officials said. The scene of the shooting was “no longer active,” according to Alameda County Sheriff spokesperson Lt. Ray Kelly. Paramedics had transported six patients to hospitals, all with gunshot wounds, according to Oakland Fire Department spokesperson Michael Hunt.Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted that all of the wounded were adults and the shooting happened at Sojourner Truth Independent Study, an alternative K-12 school.Officials didn't say if any of the victims might be students age 18 or older.Three of the wounded were in critical condition at Highland Hospital in Oakland, the other three were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and their conditions were not known, officials said.John Sasaki, a spokesperson for Oakland Unified School District, said in a statement that district officials “do not have any information beyond what Oakland Police are reporting.” He said the Sojourner Truth Independent Study headquarters has no students and is located on the same block as three other schools.Television footage showed dozens of police cars and yellow tape on the street outside the school and students leaving nearby campuses.City Council Member Treva Reid said investigators told her the shooting may be tied to rising “group and gang violence.”Oakland Police Capt. Casey Johnson confirmed in a brief news conference that six people were shot, and didn't answer any questions.City Council Member Loren Taylor, who was outside the school, declined to confirm any details about the incident, telling KTVU-TV, “Guns were on our school campuses where our babies were supposed to be protected.”

<p>
Police have in custody a University of Virginia student and ex-UVA football player suspected of fatally shooting three current players and wounding two other people late Sunday at the school's main campus in Charlottesville as a bus returned from a class field trip, school officials said. The suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., faces three charges of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony, UVA Police Chief Timothy Longo Sr. told reporters Monday morning as an hourslong manhunt came to an end and authorities lifted a campus lockdown order. Jones was arrested without incident around 11 a.m. ET about 80 miles east of Charlottesville in Henrico County, the county police agency said in a statement. An officer spotted the vehicle Jones was driving in the eastern area of Henrico where he was "taken into custody without incident," according to news release from the police division.Police have not offered a motive for the attack. Those killed were Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D'Sean Perry, university President Jim Ryan said. The two wounded students are being treated at UVA Medical Center, with one in critical condition and the other in good condition, he said, declining to name them. One of the two injured students was identified as Michael Hollins, according to Andrew Martin, the head football coach at the University Lab School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Hollins is a junior at UVA and is a running back for school's football team, according to the team's roster. CNN has reached out to Hollins' family but has not received a response.Hollins' father, Michael Hollins Sr., told The Washington Post his son was shot in the back with the bullet lodged in his stomach. Hollins Sr. told the Post he's expected to recover."This is a sad, shocking and tragic day for our UVA community," Ryan said. "Let me say how deeply sorry I am for the victims and for their family and friends."Carla Williams, UVA athletics director, said in a statement that as a mother herself, she aches for the parents and family members of the victims."We lost three talented and bright young men," Williams said. "We will never see what their impact on the world would have been, but we will never forget their impact on us. I miss Lavel, D'Sean and Devin. I pray for peace, comfort and hope for their parents and loved ones."Tony Elliot, UVA head football coach, said in a statement that it's hard for him to find the words to "express the devastation and heartache that our team is feeling today.""These were incredible young men with huge aspirations and extremely bright futures. Our hearts ache for their families, their classmates and their friends. These precious young men were called away too soon," Elliot said. "We are all fortunate to have them be a part of our lives. They touched us, inspired us and worked incredibly hard as representatives of our program, university and community."At least 68 shootings have unfolded this year on U.S. school grounds, including 15 on college campuses, CNN finds, with at least one person shot in each case, not including the shooter. The deadliest school shooting in modern U.S. history remains the 2007 attack at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, where a 23-year-old student killed 32 people before dying by suicide. The shooting at the Charlottesville campus is also one of nearly 600 mass shootings in the U.S. this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which like CNN tallies cases in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.Shooting prompted immediate lockdownsThe attack happened Sunday on a bus returning from a class trip to Washington, D.C., where the class had seen a play, university officials said. It was not immediately clear if Jones was part of that class or attended the field trip.Police responded to a report of shots fired around 10:30 p.m. in an area near a parking garage on Culbreth Road and surrounded by academic buildings, Ryan said. Two slain victims were inside the bus, with the third victim taken to a hospital, where he died, Longo said. The call prompted a shelter-in-place alert that was lifted about 12 hours later, Longo said. More than 500 people sheltered throughout campus buildings, including in libraries and classrooms, he said.Monday classes at the university were canceled. The school canceled classes Tuesday to "to give "students the opportunity to reflect, mourn and gather with each other," according to a news release. A family and community assistance center has also been set up on campus to provide UVA community members with mental health services, according to UVA Emergency Management officials.Classes were also canceled Monday at Charlottesville City Schools, the K-12 district said in a letter to families. A UVA men's basketball game scheduled for Monday evening has also been canceled, the university said.In a statement, an attorney for Perry's parents thanked the communities in both Charlottesville and South Florida — Perry was originally from Miami, the university said — for "the outpouring of support during this impossibly tragic time.""Happy and Sean Perry would not speak publicly at this time about their son's death, attorney Michael Haggard said, out of respect for the university community, which "has been terrorized by another mass shooting in the United States."Suspect had been known to campus policeJones had come to campus authorities' attention in September when authorities found out Jones "had made a comment about possessing a gun" to someone "unaffiliated with the university," Longo said at Monday's news conference. But that person never actually saw the gun in question, he said."Through the course of the threat assessment team's investigation, we learned of a prior criminal incident involving a concealed weapon violation that occurred outside the city of Charlotteville in February of 2021," Longo said, adding the suspect was required to report that incident to the university but never did. The school's judicial council took over the case, and the results are pending.Jones was also involved in a hazing investigation on campus that was closed because witnesses would not cooperate, Longo said.It is "important to share that information with you," he said, "to let you know that he had been called to our attention."Jones is listed on UVA's athletics website as a football player in 2018 who as a freshman did not participate in any games. He attended Varina High School and Petersburg High School, where he played football as a linebacker and running back, according to his university athletics bio. While in high school, Jones was Key Club president and a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society, the bio says.A UVA spokesperson told CNN Jones had a pre-existing injury that prevented him from playing on the football team in 2018. Jones went through medical treatment and rehabilitation during his time with the team and was only a member of the team for one season, the spokesperson says. The spokesperson would not give details on Jones' injury.Federal prosecutors working with local authoritiesBefore the lockdown was lifted, UVA students early Monday were told to "take the shelter in place commands seriously as the situation remains active," vice president and chief student affairs officer Robyn Hadley said in an email to UVA's student body."We have all received several shelter in place texts, and they are frightening," Hadley said, adding several police jurisdictions were working to find the suspect. "I am on grounds like many of you; I am sheltering in place and in direct touch with University leadership and UPD ... If you are not inside and safe, immediately seek safety."Two UVA students who told CNN they were at the scene of the shooting Sunday night and saw part of it unfold described hearing faint popping noises and watching people flee the bus.The students — both of whom are 21 and did not want to be identified — said they were walking to the gym when they saw the charter bus, still in motion. It was just after 10 p.m. when they heard the popping noises, the students said, but they didn't think anything of it. The bus was going over a speed bump, they said, but then they saw it stop and saw emergency lights turn on.The bus doors opened, the students said, and they saw people running out. The students told CNN they saw one fall to the ground. The students hid behind a brick wall in front of the nearby band building before calling 911 around 10:17 p.m., they said. The call wasn't answered, the students said, but they hung up when they heard sirens in the distance and saw law enforcement arrive.State and federal prosecutors are helping local agencies in the investigation, according to a joint statement from the US attorney for the Western District of Virginia and commonwealth's attorneys for Charlottesville and for Albemarle County. The officials pledged to support the investigation and "bring possible charges in the appropriate jurisdiction," the statement said.Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Monday called the shooting a "horrific tragedy" and praised the work of law enforcement for taking the suspect into custody, according to a tweet. "While there are still many details to uncover, let us lift up the entire community in prayer." The governor earlier had said Virginia State Police were "fully coordinating" with school and local police.Vice President Kamala Harris spoke on the shooting shortly after swearing in a new ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago on Monday."It's tragic," Harris said. "Of course, our prayers are with the families of the victims and it's just yet a constant reminder that we have to do better in terms of gun safety laws in our country."Meantime, another U.S. campus — the University of Idaho — is reeling after police announced a homicide inquiry after officers Sunday discovered four people deceased in a home just outside Moscow campus grounds. The deceased were students, and the cause of their deaths is not yet known, the university confirmed, adding the threat has ended.Separately, Charlottesville Police arrested a man in connection to "threatening social media posts" against UVA on Monday, but said they don't believe the threats were tied to the earlier shooting."We understand the fear this caused in our community and acted swiftly to resolve this investigation," a Charlottesville police news release said.Sunday's shooting is the University of Virginia's latest high-profile run-in with violence:White nationalists in August 2017 marched across campus carrying torches and chanting racist slogans. A day later, demonstrators protesting Charlottesville's plan to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee clashed with counterprotesters, one of whom was killed when a man drove his car into a crowd; that driver is serving life in prison.A UVA lacrosse player five years earlier was convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison for the 2010 killing of his ex-girlfriend, Yeardley Love, in her off-campus apartment.

A 22-year-old gunman killed at least five people and injured 25 others in an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, just before midnight Saturday, police said Sunday. The suspect in the shooting at Club Q was identified as Anderson Lee Aldrich, according to Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez.Upon entering the club, he immediately opened fire before at least two people inside the club confronted and fought him, preventing further violence, Vasquez said."We owe them a great debt of thanks," he said.Aldrich is being treated at a hospital, police said. Officers did not shoot at him, police said.Colorado has seen some of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, including the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School. Last year in Colorado Springs, a mass shooting at a birthday party left six dead. Here's what we know about the fatal attack in Colorado Springs:The shooting lasted just minutesThe violence lasted just minutes. Police received numerous 911 calls starting at 11:56 p.m., officers were dispatched at 11:57 p.m., an officer arrived at midnight and the suspect was detained at 12:02 a.m., police said. A total of 39 patrol officers responded, police said, and Fire Department Captain Mike Smaldino said 11 ambulances went to the scene.Aldrich used a long rifle in the shooting and two firearms were found at the scene, Vasquez, the police chief, said.Joshua Thurman told CNN affiliate KOAA he was inside the club dancing when he heard gunshots and saw a muzzle flash."I thought it was the music, so I kept dancing," he said. When he heard another round of shots, Thurman said he ran to a dressing room to hide.He said he heard the sounds of more gunshots, people crying and windows being shattered. When he came out, he saw bodies lying on the ground, broken glass and blood, Thurman said.Authorities initially said 18 people were injured but later adjusted that total up to 25.Nineteen of the 25 injured had gunshot wounds, Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers told CNN on Sunday. Based on communication with medical personnel, Suthers said he expects the injured victims to survive and the community is "crossing our fingers" for no more fatalities.Police are investigating whether the attack was a hate crimePolice said they were investigating whether the attack was a hate crime, noting Club Q's relationship with the LGBTQ community. The shooting came as the calendar turned to Transgender Day of Remembrance on Sunday."Club Q is a safe haven for our LGBTQ citizens," Vasquez said. "Every citizen has a right to feel safe and secure in our city, to go about our beautiful city without fear of being harmed or treated poorly."In a statement on social media, Club Q said it was "devastated by the senseless attack on our community" and thanked "the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack."A man with the same name as the suspect was arrested last yearTwo law enforcement sources confirmed that the suspected nightclub shooter's date of birth and name matched a person who was arrested over a bomb threat the previous year, and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis also told CNN he believed they were one and the same: "Everything I heard indicates it is the same person," Polis said.Anderson Lee Aldrich was arrested in June 2021 after a standoff at a Colorado Springs home where his mother lived, according to a news release from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office at the time, and his mother's former landlord.Video obtained by CNN shows Aldrich surrendering to law enforcement last year after allegedly making a bomb threat. Footage from the Ring door camera of the owner of the home shows Aldrich exiting the house with his hands up and barefoot, and walking to sheriff's deputies.Sheriff's deputies said in the June release that they responded to a report by Aldrich's mother that he was "threatening to cause harm to her with a homemade bomb, multiple weapons, and ammunition."Deputies called the suspect, and he "refused to comply with orders to surrender," the press release said, leading them to evacuate nearby homes.Several hours after the initial police call, the sheriff's crisis negotiations unit was able to get Aldrich to leave the house he was in, and he was arrested after walking out the front door. Authorities did not find any explosives in the home. It's not immediately clear how the case was resolved. But the Colorado Springs Gazette reported that the district attorney's office said no formal charges were pursued in the case. The district attorney's office did not respond to a request for comment from CNN.Aldrich also called the Gazette in an attempt to get an earlier story about the 2021 incident removed from the website, the newspaper reported. "There is absolutely nothing there, the case was dropped, and I'm asking you either remove or update the story," Aldrich said in a voice message, according to the Gazette.Attempts by CNN to reach Aldrich's mother for comment were unsuccessful. The club was a 'second home' for the LGBTQ communityClub Q opened in 2002 and was, until recently, the only LGBTQ club in Colorado Springs. The city is the state's second-most populous with just under 500,000 residents. In a July 2020 interview with Colorado Springs Indy, Club Q owner Nic Grzecka said he and his business partner opened the club to get a "permanent" safe place in the city. The venue also hosts events for people of all ages, including brunch and planned an upcoming Thanksgiving event.Lifelong Colorado Springs resident Tiana Nicole Dykes called Club Q "a second home full of chosen family.""I'm there every other week if not every single week. This space means the world to me. The energy, the people, the message. It's an amazing place that didn't deserve this tragedy," Dykes told CNN on Sunday. "Something like a mass shooting at an LGBT+ safe space is damaging beyond belief. There's feelings of disrespect, disbelief, and just pure shock. Nobody ever thinks it's gonna happen to them, and sometimes it does."What political leaders are sayingColorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat and the nation's first openly gay governor, issued a statement Sunday calling the attack "horrific, sickening and devastating" and offered state resources to local law enforcement."We are eternally grateful for the brave individuals who blocked the gunman likely saving lives in the process and for the first responders who responded swiftly to this horrific shooting," he said. "Colorado stands with our LGTBQ community and everyone impacted by this tragedy as we mourn together."Polis told CNN's Jim Acosta there are only two gay bars in Colorado Springs, and Club Q was one of the main venues."Everyone knew it. I knew it, knew this venue. It's just shocking. That's still setting in for people. But I know we're going to bounce back. We're showing love for one another. We're showing healing for one another," the governor said.Colorado's two U.S. senators, both Democrats, offered condolences in statements and said more should be done for the LGBTQ community."We have to protect LGBTQ lives from this hate," Sen. John Hickenlooper said."As we seek justice for this unimaginable act, we must do more to protect the LGBTQ community and stand firm against discrimination and hate in every form," Sen. Michael Bennett said.President Joe Biden also issued a statement saying he was praying for the victims and their families."While no motive in this attack is yet clear, we know that the LGBTQI+ community has been subjected to horrific hate violence in recent years. Gun violence continues to have a devastating and particular impact on LGBTQI+ communities across our nation and threats of violence are increasing," Biden said in the written statement.

<div>
<p>CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — The Walmart supervisor who fatally shot six co-workers at a store in Virginia bought the gun just hours before the killings and left a note on his phone accusing colleagues of mocking him, authorities said Friday.</p>
<p>“Sorry everyone but I did not plan this I promise things just fell in place like I was led by the Satan,” Andre Bing wrote on a note that was left on his phone, the Chesapeake Police Department said Friday.</p>
<p>Police said the 9 mm handgun used in the Tuesday night shooting was legally purchased that morning and that Bing had no criminal record. They released a copy of the note found on his phone that appeared to redact the names of specific people he mentioned.</p>
<p>It was not clear when the note was written, but in it Bing claimed he was harassed and said he was pushed to the brink by a perception his phone was hacked.</p>
<p>He wrote, “My only wish would have been to start over from scratch and that my parents would have paid closer attention to my social deficits.” Bing died at the scene of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.</p>
<p>Coworkers of Bing who survived the shooting said he was difficult and known for being hostile with employees. One survivor said Bing seemed to target people and fired at some victims after they were already hit.</p>
<p>Jessica Wilczewski said workers were gathered in <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/388036e68e8b596dd6bd05eb31d00ad6">a store break room</a> to begin their overnight shift late Tuesday when Bing, a team leader, entered and opened fire. While another witness has described Bing as shooting wildly, Wilczewski said she observed him target certain people.</p>
<p>“The way he was acting — he was going hunting," Wilczewski told The Associated Press on Thursday. "The way he was looking at people’s faces and the way he did what he did, he was picking people out.”</p>
<p>She said she observed him shoot at people who were already on the ground.</p>
<p>“What I do know is that he made sure who he wanted dead, was dead,” she said. “He went back and shot dead bodies that were already dead. To make sure.”</p>
<p>Wilczewski said she had only worked at the store for five days and didn't know with whom Bing got along or had problems. She said being a new employee may have been the reason she was spared.</p>
<p>She said that after the shooting started, a co-worker sitting next to her pulled her under the table to hide. She said that at one point, Bing told her to get out from under the table. But when he saw who she was, he told her, “Jessie, go home.” She said she slowly got up and then ran out of the store.</p>
<p>Former coworkers and residents of Chesapeake, a city of about 250,000 people near Virginia's coast, have been struggling to make sense of the rampage.</p>
<p>Bing's death <a class="Link" href="https://twitter.com/AboutChesapeake/status/1596141677508710403/photo/1">note</a> rambles at times through 11 paragraphs, with references to nontraditional cancer treatments and songwriting. He says people unfairly compared him to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, and wrote: “I would have never killed anyone who entered my home.”</p>
<p>And he longs for a wife but says he didn't deserve one.</p>
<p>Some who worked with Bing, 31, said he had a reputation for being an aggressive, if not hostile, supervisor who once admitted to having “anger issues.” But he also could make people laugh and seemed to be dealing with the typical stresses at work that many people endure.</p>
<p>“I don’t think he had many people to fall back on in his personal life,” said Nathan Sinclair, who worked at the Walmart for nearly a year before leaving earlier this month.</p>
<p>During chats among coworkers, “We would be like ‘work is consuming my life.’ And (Bing) would be like, ‘Yeah, I don’t have a social life anyway,’” Sinclair recalled Thursday.</p>
<p>Sinclair said he and Bing did not get along. Bing was known for being “verbally hostile” to employees and wasn’t particularly well-liked. But Sinclair also said there were times when Bing was made fun of and not necessarily treated fairly.</p>
<p>Police have <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/shootings-virginia-f2dde6ed8eeda54ea64a0dfb3a5b0188">identified the victims</a> as Brian Pendleton, 38; Kellie Pyle, 52; Lorenzo Gamble, 43; Randy Blevins, 70, and Fernando Chavez-Barron, 16, who were all from Chesapeake; and Tyneka Johnson, 22, of nearby Portsmouth. Chavez-Barron's name was released Friday; it had been withheld previously because of his age.</p>
<p>A Walmart spokesperson confirmed in an email that all of the victims worked for the company.</p>
<p>Two others who were shot remained hospitalized, police said Friday. One is still in critical condition, and the other is in fair to improving condition.</p>
<p>Another Walmart employee, Briana Tyler, has said Bing appeared to fire at random.</p>
<p>“He was just shooting all throughout the room. It didn’t matter who he hit,” Tyler told the AP Wednesday.</p>
<p>Six people also were wounded in the shooting, which happened just after 10 p.m. as shoppers were stocking up ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Police said they believe about 50 people were in the store at the time.</p>
<p>Bing was identified as an overnight team leader who had been a Walmart employee since 2010. Police said he had one handgun and several magazines of ammunition.</p>
<p>Tyler said the overnight stocking team of 15 to 20 people had just gathered in the break room to go over the morning plan. Another team leader had begun speaking when Bing entered the room and opened fire, Tyler and Wiczewski said.</p>
<p>Tyler, who started working at Walmart two months ago and had worked with Bing just a night earlier, said she never had a negative encounter with him, but others told her he was “the manager to look out for.” She said Bing had a history of writing up people for no reason.</p>
<p>The attack was the second major shooting in Virginia this month. Three University of Virginia football players were <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/sports-football-shootings-virginia-charlottesville-247f5b0fb4c7d1da8d418dc135aecdf8">fatally shot</a> on a bus Nov. 13 as they returned from a field trip. Two other students were wounded.</p>
<p>The Walmart shooting also comes days after a person <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/shootings-colorado-springs-e098d88261db6bcfc0774434abbb7a8f">opened fire at a gay nightclub</a> in Colorado Springs, Colorado — killing five and wounding 17. Tuesday night’s shooting brought back memories of another attack at a Walmart in 2019, when a gunman killed 23 at a store in El Paso, Texas.</p>
<p>Also on Friday, a person suffered injuries not considered life-threatening after being shot at a Walmart in Lumberton, North Carolina, police said. Investigators described it as an isolated altercation between two people who knew each other.</p>
<p>Wilczewski, who survived Tuesday's shooting in Virginia, said she tried but could not bring herself to visit a memorial in the store's parking lot Wednesday.</p>
<p>“I wrote a letter and I wanted to put it out there,” she said. “I wrote to the ones I watched die. And I said that I'm sorry I wasn't louder. I'm sorry you couldn't feel my touch. But you weren't alone.”</p>

At least 20 people were injured and one person died in a shooting overnight at a Juneteenth celebration in Willowbrook, Illinois, police say. Some of the injured were transported to hospitals by ambulance and others walked in, DuPage County Deputy Sheriff Eric Swanson told reporters Sunday.Ten patients were transported to four hospitals with injuries ranging from graze wounds to more serious gunshot wounds, and two people were in critical condition, Joe Ostrander, battalion chief of the Tri-State Fire Protection District said earlier. At least 12 ambulances responded to the scene, Ostrander added.Witnesses say the shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. in a parking lot in Willowbrook, about 21 miles west of Chicago. The motive behind the shooting is unclear and it is still an active investigation, Swanson said.

At least one juvenile was killed and nine others injured on Sunday in an overnight shooting in downtown St. Louis, according to Mayor Tishaura Jones. The shooting took place downtown just after 1 a.m. CT, inside a building at 14th and Washington streets where a party was being held. The space usually serves as an office space.A 17-year-old suspect is in custody, police Chief Robert Tracy said during a news conference Sunday.“This Father’s Day, families across the St. Louis region woke to the news of yet another mass shooting,” Jones said.“It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, tenfold,” Jones said. “My heart goes out to all of the families in pain today. All those attending will carry with them the scars, physical and mental, from the gun violence that tore into their lives.”The victim who died was a 17-year-old male, according to Tracy. The injured victims’ ages range between 15 and 19 years old, the chief said. A 17-year-old female was also trampled running from the scene and has serious spinal injuries, he added.Police recovered multiple firearms from the scene, including an AR-15-style rifle and a handgun, Tracy said.Police are investigating who had authority over the office building and who was responsible for the party.“Wrap your arms around your children today as we mourn because I will wrap my arms around mine,” Jones said.

CONFERENCE. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US? YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT. ACTING COMMISSIONER RICHARD WORLEY JUST SPOKE, LIKE YOU SAID, SIX VICTIMS, AGES 17 TO 32 YEARS OLD. ONE WAS A FEMALE. WE’RE TOLD THAT RIGHT NOW, ALL NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. I’M GOING TO STEP OUT OF THE SCENE AND SHOW YOU HOW THINGS LOOK RIGHT NOW. A BIG CRIME SCENE HERE. THE ACTING COMMISSIONER SAID THAT AT AROUND 847, ONE OF THEIR OFFICERS WAS DOING A CAR STOP. AND IN THE PROCESS OF THAT CAR STOP, THEY STARTED TO HEAR GUNSHOTS. THEY SAID THAT THREE VICTIMS WERE FOUND AT A BUS STOP IN THIS AREA. AND THEN THEY SAID THREE MORE ARRIVED AT LOCAL HOSPITALS. AND LIKE I SAID EARLIER, THEIR AGES 17 TO 32 YEARS OLD. THEY SAID ONLY ONE WAS 17. SO THE REST ARE ADULTS. ONE OF THEM WAS IS A FEMALE. AND RIGHT NOW ALL HAVE NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. AND HE SAID THAT THEY’RE ALL GOING THROUGH SURGERY RIGHT NOW AS WELL. NOW, I SPOKE TO NEIGHBORS HERE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT TWO DIFFERENT NEIGHBORS TOLD ME THAT THEY HEARD AROUND 20 GUNSHOTS WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED. I WANT YOU ALL TO TAKE A LISTEN TO WHAT ONE MAN HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS. JUST PUT THE GUNS DOWN. YOU KNOW, I MEAN, IN THE OLD DAYS, YOU KNOW, THEY ROLLED UP THE FIST AND DID IT LIKE THAT. BUT NOW IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYBODY HAS A GUN. AND IF THEY JUST PUT THE GUN, THEN WE’D BE WE’D BE BETTER OFF. NOW. NOW BACK OUT HERE LIVE. YOU CAN SEE THE ACTING COMMISSIONER RIGHT OVER THERE. LOTS OF DETECTIVES OUT HERE. AGAIN, THIS IS A PRETTY BIG CRIME SCENE. THIS IS YORK ROAD AND EAST COLD SPRING LANE POLICE ACTUALLY BLOCKED OFF AN ENTIRE BLOCK OF COLD SPRING LANE OVER THERE. AND TO OUR LEFT, RIGHT OVER HERE, YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL EVIDENCE MARKERS RIGHT IN FRONT OF A BUS STOP. AND TO THE LEFT OF THAT, RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, THEY TAPED OFF THE SUNOCO GAS STATION RIGHT HERE. SO, AGAIN, THIS IS STILL AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION. AND POLICE DID NOT SAY WHETHER THEY MADE ANY ARRESTS. BUT AGAIN, WE HAVE SIX TOTAL VICTIMS. THEY FOUND THREE AT A BUS STOP AND THEY SAID THAT THREE SHOWED UP AT LOCAL HOSPITALS AGES 17 TO 32 YEARS OLD. OF COURSE, ALL OF THIS IS GOING TO BE UNDER INVESTIG AS SOON AS WE GET MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS, WE WILL BRING THEM T

Friday evening, Milwaukee police said someone shot and killed a United States Postal Service carrier while he was delivering mail. The United States Postal Inspection Service identified the victim as Aundre Cross. Police said he was in his 40s.For over 18 years, Cross delivered the mail and smiles. "Aundre came to work every day with a smile on his face. If you was sad, he was going to make sure gonna get a smile. He's going to make you laugh every day," said Melissa Carter, a friend and coworker to Cross.Video shared with sister station WISN 12 News by Elaxex Trammel, a resident on his route, showed him laughing and smiling while delivering her mail just hours before he was killed. "If you had a bad morning, he could come in loud, joyful, change your whole mood. Forget what you were even upset about," said Cross' friend and coworker, Jyfena Brown, "He was a good person. Had three beautiful kids, a wife. Imagine how they feel, two weeks before Christmas."Surveillance video obtained by sister stationWISN 12 News captured the gunfire and a subject running to a car. The car appears to resemble the same car on the U.S. Postal Inspection Service's wanted poster. The wanted poster says the suspect vehicle is a silver Audi Q5 SUV with tinted windows."Being a carrier in Milwaukee is very scary now. And you are alone on the route. It's just literally you and the mail," Brown said. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) involved in the homicide.Postal workers gathered Saturday evening, where Cross spent the last moments of his life, to mourn the loss of one of their own. "It's sad to see someone good like him. It just hurts because he didn't deserve this at all," Brown said.Milwaukee police ask anyone with information to contact them at 414-935-7272 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or P3 Tips App.Watch the video above for the full story.

<p>"Being a carrier in Milwaukee is very scary now. And you are alone on the route. It's just literally you and the mail," Brown said.</p>
<p>The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) involved in the homicide.</p>
<p>Postal workers gathered Saturday evening, where Cross spent the last moments of his life, to mourn the loss of one of their own. </p>
<p>"It's sad to see someone good like him. It just hurts because he didn't deserve this at all," Brown said.</p>
<p>Milwaukee police ask anyone with information to contact them at 414-935-7272 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or P3 Tips App.</p>
