Authorities are still trying to execute a search warrant issued in December for 'Rust' actor Alec Baldwin's cellphone. It was issued on Dec. 17 by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department.

In a video posted to Instagram, Baldwin said, "the best way to honor the death of Halyna Hutchins is to find out the truth."

New Mexico's First Judicial District Attorney released this statement just a few days ago, saying the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office is working with a New York Sheriff's Department to execute this warrant.

Sister station KOAT legal expert John Day said search warrants like these are usually routine and take a few days at most.

"Normally, search warrants have to be executed within ten days of their being issued. What we see here is an extended delay. The evidence is supposed to be gathered within 10 days. If you go beyond that, how stale is that search warrant information?"

He says the more time passes, the greater the possibility of something happening to the evidence on that phone. What exactly are investigators looking for in Baldwin's phone?

"What they're looking for is communications between Alec Baldwin and other people connected to the production about guns, ammunition and shooting," Day said.

Day says investigators will have to switch their focus to cell service providers if the information is deleted from the phone. They'll be able to issue search warrants or subpoenas to find it.

Day also says authorities could issue search warrants for the people Baldwin was communicating with to ensure no information was deleted from Baldwin's phone.

CATAWA, N.C. – Narcotics investigators in North Carolina say they came across a firearm disguised as a toy while executing a search warrant at a home Wednesday.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office says it worked with the Newton Police Department to search the residence in Catawba after gathering evidence of narcotics possession at the location.

During their search, investigators say they seized quantities of cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, as well as $2,300 in cash and 20 guns.

The firearms included pistols, rifles and shotguns. The sheriff’s office says one of the weapons, a converted Glock model 19 pistol with a 50 round drum magazine, “had been altered to resemble a toy Nerf gun.”

The sheriff’s office noted that it’s not illegal to possess these types of firearms, but officers said the guns “are concerning to law enforcement.”

As a result of the search, 35-year-old Damien Alonzo Burch was arrested and charged with felonious possession of cocaine, felonious possession of mushrooms and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

“Another success resulting from our area narcotics teams working together. Our agencies pooling their resources allows for a greater impact to be felt county wide,” said Sheriff Don Brown in a statement.
