LONGMONT, Colo. (KMGH) — A teenage lifeguard in Longmont, Colorado, helped deliver a baby while at work.

“It’s a pretty calm day usually,” 18-year-old lifeguard Natalie Lucas said, talking about her regular Sunday shift.

Calm is was what she was expecting on a Sunday morning late last month. That’s when expectant mother Tessa Rider, who was nine months pregnant, visited the YMCA pool.

“Thought, 'Oh, I’ll go for a swim. It’ll be nice and cool,'” Rider explained.

Rider’s swim didn’t last long.

“It suddenly dawned on me we weren’t making it to the hospital and he was coming out right then and there,” she said.

“The husband tells me they’re having the baby, and I’m like, 'Alright.' And the adrenaline kicks in right then and there," Lucas said.

Lucas requested for someone to call 911, grabbed a medical bag and towels, and was right there Rider pushed.

“She was there to do anything we asked. And the first thing I could think of was could someone hold my back up. And she did, and it was perfect,” Rider explained.

“The baby was already kind of coming out, and it was quick. I would say less than five minutes that it all happened,” Lucas said.

Baby Tobin was born happy and healthy on the pool deck of the YMCA.

“Without her, I would not have been able to safely focus my attention that Tobin came out and that he was safe and healthy,” dad Matthew Jones said.

Right after the birth, someone snapped a photo of the four — dad, mom, baby and lifeguard.

“I stayed calm, I helped them through from beginning to end that Sunday. It was quite the crazy thing to happen, but I’m pretty proud of myself,” Lucas said.

Lucas is off to college in the fall, after an experience she wasn’t expecting, but one that she admits she’ll never forget.

“I do hope to send the little guy birthday cards here and there,” the teen said with a smile.

As for baby Tobin, he gets a lifetime membership to the YMCA.

“He’s definitely going to be a swimmer,” Rider joked.

At the Floridays Resort in Orlando, Florida, is Robert Mejias, who works as a bellman.He's everything you'd want in a bellman — friendly, efficient and on an average day, he does it all. "Just helping guests with the luggage… taking them to the rooms," he said. "I cook, too. I help in the kitchen." However, Aug. 24, 2020, was no average day. Mejias was on the second floor looking out and spotted a 2-year-old boy floating in the pool "I got to get down there and save him. I gotta get down there and save him," he said. Mejias raced down the stairs and by the time he got there, the boy had been pulled out. "They were shaking him telling him to wake up. And I told them I have to do CPR, I have to get him back," he said.Two weeks earlier, the general manager had all the employees in the resort do CPR training, and Mejias was a bit skeptical. "Because I'm a bellman, what am I ever going to need CPR training for?" he said. Two weeks later, Mejias used that training to save a young life. "I kind of got scared because I thought we lost him. But I wasn't going to stop, and finally, he opened his eyes," he said. Mejias got an industry-wide award as "Outstanding Bell Person" for the year during a time that was especially challenging for the hospitality industry. Robert Agrusa, President-Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association says: "And they are so incredibly humble because they are here to serve. And in this case, this was an amazing example of service."Mejias said his real reward was seeing the little boy alive and well.

FLORENCE, Ky. —

Chalking up the 2021 summer season at the Florence Aquatic Center as a loss, families and kids in the community feel left in the dark about its future.

"We're all heartbroken. It literally is like shattering our hearts into a million pieces," said Florence Hammerhead mom Jenna Kemper.

Kemper's three kids have been going to the pool since they were toddlers. It's the home for the Florence Hammerhead swim team.

"We understood last year, so when they announced 2021 we weren't going to open, we didn't know where to go," said Kemper.

The team found a new, temporary home at the Burlington YMCA, but for people like lifeguard Davy Lively, who grew up coming to this pool, it's a special place.

"I worked really hard to keep this pool going, and my sister worked here, worked really hard to keep this pool going," said Lively.

Kemper has yet to get a solid answer from city officials about what will happen to the Florence Aquatic Center, but she says a council member told her that the city is looking for other, less costly uses for the location, something that would serve the entire city, year-round.

Kemper says this pool is a life-saver for many kids in Northern Kentucky.

"One in four children in Boone County goes hungry in the summer, so if they're not in school, where do you think they are? They're here," said Kemper.

Kemper has started an online petition to keep the pool open.
