CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — An Ohio man is now dealing with significant damage to his home after a police chase ended in a crash with the car lodged inside his kitchen.

It happened early on Friday morning in Cleveland Heights at South Taylor Road and Fairmount Boulevard.

John Gall said he was sleeping inside his home when a car came crashing through his brick bungalow just after midnight on Friday morning.

"There was a car in my kitchen and police with guns swarming around the house," Gall said. "I stuck my head out the broken front window and said, 'Please don't shoot me, I'm the homeowner.'"

Gall said Cleveland Heights Police officers on the scene told him they were chasing the driver on South Taylor Road right before the driver crashed.

"I understand pursuits. I'm not sure I understand 85 miles an hour coming down Taylor road here," he said.

Gall said he never saw the driver but added he witnessed the person being taken away in an ambulance.

Todd Freeman lives next door. He said car accidents at this intersection are so common that he wasn't surprised when he came outside to see what happened.

"I was sound asleep. As soon as I heard the hit, I knew that one of the two houses had been hit by a car. I mean, I knew the sound well by now," Freeman said.

This is not the first time Gall's property has been damaged by accidents.

In 2012, WEWS covered a crash at his home where his truck was hit by a vehicle.

Gall said since then. He has been proactive about getting more protective guarding at the intersection to prevent damage to his home. But, Gall said, his requests to city hall have been denied.

"I talked to City Hall about it in the past, and they claim that the putting up of a guardrail, which would've probably prevented a majority of this, was unaesthetic and not pleasing to the neighborhood, so they rejected that," he said. "I'm going to have to seek more drastic measures in the future, I think. I'm not sure what that will be, but they will find out."

News 5 reached out to the city to see what it would take to get a guard rail in front of a home, and they said they would respond next week.

Daylight photos show more of the damage caused by the crash.

Watch the video above for more on this story.Police arrested four teenagers Thursday after police said they stole a car and led them on a chase. The high-speed chase went onto the lawn at Glen Hills Middle School in Glendale, Wisconsin, during dismissal. “When he just comes across the lawn that was the scariest part of it," said Pastor Kasandra Williams, the grandparent of a 4th grader at the school. “We were just kind of thanking God that you know none of the other kids got hurt.”According to a district-wide voicemail from the Glendale River Hills School District Superintendent Alyson Eisch, gym teachers moved students to a safe area and administrators stopped dismissal. She said they continued dismissal once police verified the situation was safe.Glendale police told sister station WISN that the driver was a 13-year-old boy, and the passengers were a 13-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old girl. All four suspects live in Milwaukee.Police did not say where the teens allegedly stole the car from in Milwaukee."It’s shocking," said Jordan Wanner, a parent to three kids at the school. "It seems to be the trend now, where kids are doing this kind of thing, putting everybody’s life at risk, putting their own lives at risk. Yeah, it has to stop.” Similar incidents unfolded at Milwaukee Marshall High School this summer.“I think if we can get back to parenting, you wouldn’t have situations like this whether it’s in Glendale, Menomonee Falls or Milwaukee, because it’s happening all around," Williams said. “It’s children who aren’t parented right. Period.” No one was injured in this incident.

A 28-year-old mother died after her vehicle was hit by a chase suspect Monday in northeast Oklahoma City.Police said a suspect stole a pickup truck from a construction site and led police on a pursuit that ended when the two vehicles collided. The victim was identified as Star Shells, whose family told sister station KOCO that she was pregnant and had just dropped her children at day care and school when she was hit by the speeding pickup truck. Shells died at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The man driving the vehicle that hit hers also is at OU Medical Center, where he is being guarded by police and is expected to survive."My family has been going through it," the victim's cousin, Donnice Shells, said. "I lost an uncle Friday, and then this happened."Police said it started around 7:30 a.m. Monday after police said the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Wacey Mikles, stole a truck from the construction site."What we know so far is that a vehicle was left running with the keys in it. Someone jumped inside the vehicle and left," said Capt. Daniel Stewart, with the Oklahoma City Police Department.About 30 minutes later, police said officers spotted the stolen truck near Northeast 30th and Lindsay Avenue and tried to stop it."When they did that, the driver initiated a pursuit," Stewart said. "The pursuit lasted about six minutes and ended here at the crash site."Police said Mikles slammed the stolen truck into Star Shells' car. She was taken to OU Medical Center, where she died from her injuries."All I can say is to tell everybody is to keep my family uplifted in prayers," Donnice Shells said. Mickles was arrested on complaints of second-degree murder, felony eluding and possession of meth.A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Star Shells' family with funeral expenses.
A driver operating a salt truck late Thursday night drove at two Reading police officers while they were executing a traffic stop before leading officers from multiple agencies on a chase, the Reading Police Department said Friday.

According to a news release, two officers were in the process of taking a suspect into custody after a traffic stop near the intersection of Reading Road and Sunnybrook Drive when they observed 36-year-old Omar Armstrong accelerating a city of Cincinnati salt truck in their direction.

"The officers had to jump back to avoid being struck by the truck," the release indicates, adding that the officers estimated the vehicle was traveling in excess of 60 miles per hour as it passed.

As one of the Reading officers completed the initial traffic stop, the other pursued the salt truck. Armstrong refused to stop, officers said, leading them on a chase up Interstate 75 on to Ronald Reagan Highway.

Springfield Township police eventually joined the pursuit, as well, as Armstrong returned to the site of the original traffic stop, spraying salt on the officer again, the release stated.

Springfield Township officers finally succeeded in stopping Armstrong, where he was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted vehicular assault, failure to comply, and reckless operation, among other charges.

Armstrong's attorney said Friday in court that he did not see the police vehicle's flashing lights behind him as officers were pursuing him. She also said he has worked at the city of Cincinnati for five years.

A judge held Armstrong on a $9,000 bond and set a grand jury date for Feb. 8.
