It's been talked about for months now. Meta's challenge to Twitter is here. Facebook's parent company launched Threads on Wednesday, Bridget Carey cnet's consumer tech and trends expert says the objective of real time conversations is the same, but it's too soon to tell whether threads will topple Twitter. It's still the early days. It's not exactly the same as Twitter. There are *** lot of things we're going to have to get used to and there are different communities on each. It appears the Threads app available in 100 countries is off to *** fast start meta Ceo Mark Zuckerberg posting on his verified account that thread saw 30 million sign ups by Thursday morning. Meta's numbers may be its biggest advantage at launch users sign up using their Instagram account and there are more than 2 billion active Instagram users around the globe. Twitter's active user base is currently around 250 million and has taken *** hit amid the turmoil since Elon Musk's takeover last October to be *** really successful social media company right now. It needs to be *** place that's safe, *** place that is trusted that you are trusting what you're seeing online and it needs to be *** place that is just easy to use and useful. Just within the last week, Twitter has imposed temporary limits on how many tweets its users are able to read in the app and announce users will soon need to pay if they want to use tweet deck, *** popular monitoring tool.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – ViacomCBS announced the lineup of TV shows that will be available on its Paramount+ streaming platform, including multiple revivals and spinoffs of some fan favorites.

Paramount+, which will launch on March 4, will feature a combination of live sports, breaking news and a “mountain of entertainment” from the company’s portfolio of brands, like BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and the Smithsonian Channel.

Below are a few shows being revived or spun off by the company:

Frasier

The long-running NBC sitcom “Frasier” is one of the most noteworthy shows being revived on the streaming service. Kelsey Grammer is set to reprise his role as Dr. Frasier Crane. The company says, “Frasier’s back – and he’s more exactly the same than ever.”

Rugrats

An all-new series featuring the iconic babies of “Rugrats” is coming to Paramount+. It will incorporate the original voice cast and new computer graphics animation.

Avatar

A wide-range of “Avatar”-inspired content, ranging from spinoffs of “The Last Airbender,” theatricals and short form content.

iCarly

Original cast members Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor will reunite to take a look at the “new chapter” of “iCarly.” It will look at the characters’ present-day lives.

Criminal Minds

“Criminal Minds” is returning with a new scripted series that brings the team back together to investigate a single case over 10 episodes.

Yellowstone

Fans of “Yellowstone” will be excited to hear that the show is getting a spinoff, tentatively titled “6666.” ViacomCBS gave this description: “founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing…”

Dora the Explorer

A new live-action series based on “Dora the Explorer” is being produced. It’s said to be designed for an older audience of kids 6-11 and their families.

SpongeBob

The first-ever spinoff of “SpongeBob SquarePants” will premiere on the platform. “Kamp Koral” will take viewers back to when the show’s character met for the first time, in a summer camp “like no other.”

The Fairly OddParents

The remake of “The Fairly OddParents” will be a “live-action take on one of Nick’s longest running and most successful animated hits.”

The Real World

“The Real World: Homecoming: New York” will reunite the original “seven strangers” that paved the way for modern reality TV. They’ll move back into the New York loft where it all began.

Inside Amy Schumer

The Comedy Central franchise will return with five specials starring comedian and actress Amy Schumer.

The Game

The popular BET sitcom is returning with a mix of original cast members and “new players.” It’s said to offer a modern-day examination of Black culture through the prism of pro football.

As COVID-19 vaccine-related misinformation continues to spread on Facebook, one of the platform's former executives is calling for the company to focus on transparency.President Joe Biden recently said platforms like Facebook are "killing people" with vaccine misinformation. And Brian Boland, the former vice president of partnership strategy at Facebook, said the company "absolutely" has data on where and how the troublesome content is spreading, but hasn't shown "a focus or a desire to be more transparent.""The willingness seems to be more about let's avoid the story or let's control the narrative, rather than do the hard thing," Boland told CNN on Sunday. After more than 11 years working at Facebook, "It's one of the main reasons that I quit," he said. The White House is focusing on turning up the heat on the so-called COVID "disinformation dozen" who are using social media to spread false or misleading claims about the vaccines."There's about 12 people who are producing 65% of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Thursday. That statistic comes from the nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) which identified in a report published in March about a dozen users it said were super-spreaders of anti-vaccine misinformation. A Facebook spokesperson told CNN Friday the company had shut down some pages and groups belonging to the dozen or so people identified by the CCDH, but it would not specify which pages had been removed.
