MONTGOMERY, Ohio —

Strike up the band, and get your marching shoes on. The city of Montgomery is looking for units for the annual Independence Day Parade.

The parade will be held at 10 a.m. on July 4.

Residents, neighborhood associations, and local businesses are invited to be a part of Montgomery’s Independence Day celebration, a day filled with patriotism, community pride, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Applications for parade entries are due no later than Friday, June 10.

Award categories for this year’s parade include:

• Best Patriotic Spirit
• Best Float/Vehicle
• Best Overall
• Best Neighborhood

Winners will receive a large red, white and blue ribbon, a framed certificate, and their names listed in the Montgomery Bulletin.

At least six people died and 30 were wounded in a shooting at a July Fourth parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park. Here's what we know and don't know about the shooting. What we know:Six people have been killed Police have identified a person of interest as Robert Crimo III, a 22-year-old who lives in the area, according to police.Police arrested the Crimo just before 7 p.m. CST in Lake Forest, Illinois, a suburb near Highland Park.Police believe the shooter fired on the parade from a rooftop using a rifle that was recovered at the scene. Police say they believe there is only one shooter.Some of the victims have been identified. Nicolas Toledo was in his late 70s and visiting from Mexico when he was shot. He died at the scene, his granddaughter told the Chicago Sun-Times. Also killed was Jacki Sundheim, a lifelong congregant and “beloved” staff member at nearby North Shore Congregation Israel, which announced her death on its website. What we don't know: Police have not said whether or not they are aware of the shooter's motive.Police have only identified the weapon as a high-powered rifle.The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Seven people were reportedly killed and more than 30 people were wounded at the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

Authorities said the gunman shot more than 70 rounds into the crowd at random on Monday.

Children are among the wounded, but no child has died, authorities said.

Investigators believe the 21-year-old alleged shooter spent weeks pre-planning the attack.

"The rifle was purchased in Illinois and the information we have thus far is that it appears to have been purchased legally," said Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Covelli added that the gunman was wearing women's clothing at the time of the attack in an effort to conceal his identity. Following the shooting, Covelli said the shooter blended into the crowd and went to his mother's house.

He borrowed her car and was eventually pulled over and arrested.

"At this point, we have not developed a motive," Covelli said.

Disturbing videos of the alleged shooter have emerged online. Covelli said they were not aware of the videos prior to the attack, but they are looking into them.

Funeral services for the seven people killed by a gunman at an Independence Day parade will conclude Monday as family and friends gather in suburban Chicago to remember Kevin McCarthy.

McCarthy’s funeral service is scheduled for Monday afternoon in Skokie, Illinois. In an obituary, he is described as a father, husband, brother, uncle and son who “brought the fun to every situation.”

The 37-year-old father and his wife, Irina, were killed in the Highland Park parade attack. They left behind a 2-year-old son, Aiden, whose story prompted thousands of people to donate money for the orphaned boy.

“Kevin’s irrepressible zest for life and his family and friends will remain with us always,” his family wrote in the obituary. “We love you.”

Irina McCarthy was buried last week.

Services for the five other victims have been held in recent weeks. They have been identified as: 64-year-old Katherine Goldstein, 63-year-old Jacquelyn Sundheim, 88-year-old Stephen Straus and 78-year-old Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza and 69-year-old Eduardo Uvaldo.

Prosecutors have charged 21-year-old Robert E. Crimo III with seven counts of murder and said they expect to present attempted murder charges representing the people wounded in the attack.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is still more than two weeks away, but the preps are long underway.

The parade's balloons were put through the paces at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Saturday.

The airborne floats were inflated and prepped before a test flight to gauge real-world conditions.

Some of the balloons are as tall as a five-story building.

This year's balloon lineup includes Bluey from the popular animated series, Sinclair's Dino, Stuart the Minion, and astronaut Snoopy.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a holiday tradition for nearly 100 years.

The Waukesha Christmas Parade returned to downtown Waukesha Sunday one year after a driver plowed through the same event killing six people and injuring dozens more.

The theme of this year's parade was Peace on Earth.

There were 80 groups marching in the parade, many of which are the same that were struck by tragedy including the Waukesha Blazers baseball club, the Dancing Grannies and Catholic Communities of Waukesha.

Several floats were decorated by Waukesha South High School band members and other students in honor of last year's victims.

Terry Rutledge has been a part of the Waukesha community for 45 years and was in the parade last year with the Salvation Army.

On Sunday, he drove a decorated plow.

Emotions were running high not only for the people who performed in the parade but also for those who attended.

"Last year after the parade we all came together, and it's just nice that even a year later, we're all still together, so it kind of solidified the whole community and kept us solidified for the whole year. The spirit never went away for Waukesha Strong," said Andrea Dorantes, who attended last year's parade.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were the last attraction in the parade.

The parade started at 4 p.m. along a new route and ended just before 5:30 p.m.

It began at Cutler Park, near Maple and Wisconsin avenues. It then went east along Main Street, south on Barstow Street and ended back at Cutler Park.

For some, it was an opportunity to heal.

"It's a very full circle moment being back. Immediately after the events of last year I started therapy so that way I could start healing right away so this is definitely the last step in my healing process," said Joe Eisenman, who attended last year's parade.

For others, like Eisenman's father, it was an opportunity to offer support.

"I just went through everything that he went through last year. We weren't here but we went through it when he was here," said Chris Eisenman.

The parade offered an opportunity for Waukesha to redefine its Christmas parade.

"Last year brought a lot of terror and a lot of confusion, but this year I honestly see nothing but happiness. That's definitely something that's different, but it's also definitely something that's amazing," said Joe Eisenman.

Parade attendees created good memories to overshadow the bad ones.

"We were here right in front of the Dancing Granny troop. So we saw a lot that day so it'll be good to see them back in the parade," said Dorantes.

Healing Hearts of Wisconsin was on hand at Sunday's parade. The organization provides support for grieving children and their families. They had a tent sent up at Cutler Park. The group also had personnel along the parade route to provide support to those struggling.

The Pewaukee, Wisconsin, community and beyond dropped everything Friday night to lift up a little girl for her fifth birthday. "It's amazing, and there's so many great people out there doing so much for us. You're really happy to see it, but you wish it wasn't your kid," said Jacob Krings, Delaney Krings' father.In October, a trip to the emergency room for an ear infection would become the moment doctors told Delaney's parents she had just weeks to live. It was brain cancer, and it was terminal. "Brain cancer is terrible because if you look at a person as a puzzle, as a jigsaw puzzle, brain cancer is that one thing that takes one piece away every day and sometimes it's really sneaky, other times it's really obvious. But it's, unfortunately, a pretty steady decline," said Heather Krings, Delaney's mother.Andrew Kreblin, with the Wisconsin Truck Takeover Enthusiasts, heard Delaney's story and felt compelled to do something. After consulting with Delaney's parents, strangers to him, he began planning the parade. He said hundreds responded, wanting to be a part of the parade."It's good to see the community coming together. Time of need right now for the family. It's real touching, I've got kids at home around the same age," Kreblin said.Delaney's mom says she's a daddy's girl. So, from the window, in her father's arms, Delaney could lift an eyelid with her finger to see the outpouring of love, organized by a stranger. "This is just something we had to do. Right when I read the article, I had to do something, right then and there," Kreblin said. Sharon Tomlinson, a friend of the family, asked for birthday cards for Delaney. From around the world, 15,000 cards and thousands more packages poured in for Delaney. "Delaney's not going to be around for much longer. So having everybody come together to make this the best event possible and hopefully put a smile, not just on her face, but the family's face," Tomlinson said."She'll smile with the right side of her face," Krings said.While Delaney watches the parade, her parents watch an invisible clock, cherishing every second they have. "Hopefully, Christmas, she'll make it," Krings said.

CHEVIOT, Ohio — Due to COVID-19 concerns, the 2020 Harvest Home Parade has been canceled, according to a post on the parade’s Facebook page Wednesday night.

Parades are one of the activities mentioned on a list of operations or businesses that are still closed, released by The Ohio Department of Health on Aug. 3.

The parade’s Facebook post said the governor informed the city that officials don’t see those closures changing by Sept. 10 – the date of this year’s parade.

2020 would have been the 63rd year of the Harvest Home Parade.
