Authorities are searching for an inmate who stole a detention officer’s car and escaped the Oklahoma County Detention Center. According to the detention center, Nicholas Leach, 41, was a trustee working with the maintenance department. At 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, Leach stole a wireless remote — which opens the back gate — from a detention officer’s duty belt. He also took the officer’s car keys from a book bag. Leach walked up the maintenance parking lot, opened the gate, found the detention officer’s car and left the jail parking lot, detention center officials said. Leach was last seen driving a red 2008 Honda Civic. All the vehicle’s windows are tinted except the driver’s side window. He may be wearing a black maintenance T-shirt with the 'OCDC' logo, officials said. Nicholas Leach was booked into the jail on May 29 for several charges, including second-degree burglary and false declaration to a pawnshop. He was recently sentenced to 10 years with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
