DELAWARE, Ohio — The Mariemont High School girls lacrosse team captured the Division II state championship Saturday morning with a 16-6 win over Rocky River at Ohio Wesleyan University's Selby Stadium.

Mariemont's Marley Megowen scored five goals while Marah Campbell added four goals. Delaine Oliveira and Sophie Toman scored two goals each. Goalkeeper Olivia Simpson had three saves.

Mariemont (19-3) led 10-5 at halftime. Mariemont had 27 shots on goal while Rocky River had 15, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association statistics.

It is the second state title for the Mariemont girls lacrosse program in their second state finals appearance. Mariemont defeated Chagrin Falls to win the 2018 Division II state title.

The Mariemont boys lacrosse team plays Chagrin Falls at 1 p.m. in the Division II state boys final.

This weekend marks the first time the Mariemont boys and girls lacrosse teams have been in the state finals in the same year, according to athletic director Tom Nerl.

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Mariemont High School boys and girls lacrosse teams captured their respective Division II state championships Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University's Selby Stadium.

The sweep of Division II lacrosse championships occurred during a weekend that saw the Mariemont boy';s and girl's lacrosse teams in the state finals at the same time for the first time in school history.

The Mariemont boys team defeated Chagrin Falls 12-9 Saturday afternoon. The girls lacrosse team defeated Rocky River 16-6 on Saturday morning.

"Three state titles in one year at a small school like ours is incredible," Mariemont athletic director Tom Nerl said.

"Our athletes, heck, any athlete that got a full season in this year with all the craziness deserve the ultimate credit. For our communities to take two titles today with the student and adult crowd is overwhelming. Such a special place."

The Mariemont boys team made its ninth trip to the state finals and it was the fourth time the program played Chagrin Falls in the state final.

Mariemont was led by several players including Max Tepe (three goals and an assist), David Dorsten (three goals), Boden Gall (two goals, five assists). Goalkeeper Luke Brennaman earned eight saves.

Mariemont led Chagrin Falls 7-5 at halftime.

Prior to Saturday, Mariemont's most recent state boy's lacrosse title was in 2017 when it defeated Toledo St. Francis DeSales 9-4.
