Ticket buyers for Wednesday's drawing had a chance at either $750 million paid out in yearly increments or a $378.8 million one-time lump sum before taxes.

The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday, July 15. The estimated $875 million jackpot for the next drawing carries an estimated cash value of $441.9 million.

The game's abysmal odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to build big prizes that draw more players. The all-time largest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion last November.

The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was April 19 for a $252.6 million prize. Since then, no one has won the grand prize in the past 35 consecutive drawings.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Meanwhile, the Mega Millions jackpot for Friday night’s drawing has grown to $560 million, with a cash option of $281.1 million.

Nobody won the top prize in Tuesday’s drawing. There hasn’t been a Mega Millions jackpot winner since April 18.

The Powerball jackpot keeps getting larger because players keep losing.

After no one matched all six numbers for Saturday night's estimated $825 million grand prize, the jackpot is now up to $1 billion.

The winning numbers Monday night were: 13, 19, 36, 39 and 59 white balls and the 13 red power ball.

The jackpot is the second-largest in U.S. history. The biggest prize was a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot won by three ticketholders in 2016.

Although the advertised top prize will be an estimated $1 billion, that is for winners who receive their winnings through an annuity paid over 29 years. Winners almost always opt for cash, which for Monday's drawing is an estimated $497.3 million.

Players who missed out on the latest grand prize in the 30-year-old lottery shouldn't immediately toss away their receipts.

A Florida ticket holder matched all five white balls in Saturday's drawing and increased the prize to $2 million by including the game's "Power Play" feature. Six tickets won a $1 million prize by matching five white balls, including two in California, two in Michigan, one in Maryland and one in Texas.

Another 17 tickets won a $150,000 prize while there were 80 winners of $50,000 each. More than 3.8 million tickets won cash prizes totaling above $38 million, Powerball said.

It has been nearly three months since anyone hit all six numbers and took the lottery's top prize, with a $206.9 million jackpot win in Pennsylvania on Aug. 3. Thanks to Powerball's long odds of one in 292.2 million, there have now been 37 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner.

The omicron surge is pushing hospitals to capacity as they struggle to keep up with the highest number of COVID-19 patients on record.

“We’re certainly at our highest water mark to date,” St. Elizabeth Dr. Jim Horn said.

St. Elizabeth surpassed their highest number of COVID-19 patients set last year at 219. The new number set this week is 232.

“It just means that everyone is extremely busy, and everyone is stretched to the max,” Horn said.

Every facet of hospital operations is affected from pharmacy to supply chain to the thin ranks of the staff.

“They’re tired, they’re demoralized, they’re emotionally stretched,” Horn said.

There are so many health care workers out sick, even those who are not normally on the front lines are called into action to help.

“Every, every hospital from our rural hospitals to our urban core hospitals are hit by this,” the Health Collaborative’s Tiffany Mattingly said.

Mattingly said almost every hospital in the region is hitting historic high number of COVID-19 patients.

“Definitely as bad as we’ve seen since the start of the pandemic. They’re operating at a whole new level of surge right now,” Mattingly said.
