NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. —

Firefighters in Northbridge, Massachusetts, battled a multi-alarm blaze that destroyed a historic home constructed in the 1800s.

The fire broke out before 4 p.m. Friday in the home on Lindwood Avenue in Northbridge.

Someone passing by the historic home built by the owners of the town's mill back in the 1800s spotted flames coming from the building and called 911.

Video from the scene showed flames shooting from the top floors of the Victorian-style home.

Neighbors told WCVB the home was once a restaurant and bed & breakfast.

One firefighter was injured when a piece of the ceiling collapsed, injuring their shoulder.

Officials said the house was a total loss. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
