TY: THAT BREAKING NEWS AT SCANDIA FUN CENTER IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY WHERE A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION TURNED INTO A RESCUE OPERATION AFTER A ROLLER COASTER GOT STUCK HIGH UP IN THE AIR. ANDREA: KCRA THREE’S MELANIE WINGO JOINS US LIVE. MELANIE, NOT THE PLACE YOU WANT TO GET STUCK. WHAT HAPPENED? MELANIE: EVERYONE IS SAFE AND ON SOLID GROUND TONIGHT, BUT YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW NERVE-WRACKING IT MUST HAVE BEEN FOR THOSE TEENAGERS TO BE STUCK WAY UP HIGH ON THE TRACKS OF THIS ROLLER COASTER BEHIND ME. AS YOU CAN SEE, THAT COASTER CAR IS STILL STUCK ON ITS TRACKS UP THERE. WE DO WANT TO SHOW YOU SOME VIDEO FROM A LITTLE BIT EARLIER THIS EVENING. YOU CAN SEE SACRAMENTO METRO FIRE IN ACTION, RESCUING THE GIRLS FROM THE TOP OF THE ROLLER COASTER. FIRE CREWS SAY IT’S ABOUT 65 FEET UP, AND FOR SOME REASON, THE COASTER CAME TO A DEAD STANDSTILL ON THE TRACKS. AND THAT’S WHE RESCUE CREWS GOT CALLED OUT TO HELP. ONE-BY-ONE, THE TEENAGERS WERE PULLED TO SAFETY. VERY SLOWLY, VERY CAREFULLY, THEY MADE IT DOWN WITH FIRE CREWS’ HELP. IF YOU’RE WONDERING WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE THAT HIGH UP WITH NOWHERE TO GO, NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO, THIS IS THAT VANTAGE POINT. ONE OF THE GIRLS CAPTURED THIS VIDEO ON HER CELL PHONE. IT SHOWS WHAT SHE WAS SEEING FROM ABOVE AND ALSO THE MOMENTS FIRE CREWS CAME TO RESCUE THE GIRLS. ALL OF THEM GRATEFUL TO BE OFF THE RIDE. >> I HEART JUST STARTED BEATING AND WE WERE STUCK UP THERE. I ANXIETY WENT UP. LIKE I SAID, I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. IT WAS A BAD EXPERIENCE. DON’T GO ON THAT RIDE. >> WILL YOU COME BACK? >> NO, I WOULDN’T. THEY GAVE ME A FREE SLUSHY. >> WE GOT STUCK AT THE TOP AND IT WAS REALLY COLD. >> THEY WERE GLAD TO BE SAFE. NO INJURIES REPORTED AND THEY WILL GO HOME AND SLEEP IN THEIR BEDS TONIGHT, SO THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL RESCUE. THIS IS WHAT OUR HEAVY RESCUE FOLKS AND LETTER TRUCK PERSONNEL TRAINED FOR. >> NO ONE WAS HURT, GLAD TO REPORT THAT. ALSO NO WORD YET ON WHAT CAUSED , THE COASTER TO STOP IN ITS TRACKS. SACRAMENTO METRO FIRE SAID IT MAY HAVE BEEN SOME SORT OF MECHANICAL FAILURE. WE WILL TRY TO SEE EXACTLY FROM THE FUND CENTERS PERSPECTIVE WHAT HAPPENED OUT HERE. A LOT OF IT RELIEVED GIRLS AND PARENTS AS WELL TONIGHT. REPORTING LIVE, MELANIE

A woman who was pulled from a house fire in California Sunday morning has died, family told sister station KCRA 3 on Monday. She is credited by the family as the reason they were able to escape. The house fire was sparked by an artificial Christmas tree around 2 a.m. Sunday. Investigators said an electrical short from the Christmas tree caused the fire, and the home did not have working smoke detectors.Family identified the woman as 22-year-old Destiny Abdrazack.Neighbors said they woke up to a loud sound and looked out the window. "You could see the flickering light on the tree and that's kind of like the telltale sign of a fire," Richard Byers said.He and his wife Brandy Byers ran three doors down and saw Abdrazack's family outside."They were screaming, 'Destiny! There's someone inside! There's someone inside!' There's nothing any of us could do," Brandy said.Richard said he couldn't just stand there and watch the house burn. He grabbed a fire extinguisher while another neighbor used a garden hose. He said a family member was motioning to the front window. "That's where I aimed my fire extinguisher, but the fire just came right back," Richard said. "It was too intense, moving too fast."Ernest Isom, his wife, their son and his fiance and two other adults had fallen asleep celebrating Christmas Eve."Unfortunately, they wanted to keep the lights on until the last minute and we all happen to fall asleep and we had an instant, seconds to get out," Isom said. "It was fast, and that's how quick it went. I'm talking minutes."The family lost everything, including two dogs. But Isom calls Abdrazack — she was his future daughter-in-law — a hero for her quick actions."Unfortunately, she was the one who yelled fire, and that's the sad part. She saved our lives," Isom said.Loved ones have started a fundraiser for the family impacted by the fire.Fire officials encourage people to check their batteries and make sure they are working. Watch the video above for the full story.
