Cincinnati is counting down the days until the Cotton Bowl, while some stores are counting up the sales. All things UC are in high demand right now. From long time fans to new fans, UC Bearcats undefeated college football season is bringing plenty of customers into DuBois.WLWT caught up with Aleshia Johnson, who went shopping Tuesday for her husband. “My husband’s a huge, huge fan so we don’t leave the house when they play," Johnson said. "Actually on Saturday, it was my birthday and we had to wait until the game was over to celebrate because you know, it’s a big game!"From no fans in the stadium last year, to now, fans all across the country, operations manager Ty Bonawitz said it's been an exciting time.“The closest thing I can relate it to is 2009 when the Bearcats made it to the Sugar Bowl," Bonawitz said. Even then, he said it wasn't this exciting as the Bearcats have a chance to be in the CFP.You could say, sales are up.“Right now is all about the AAC champ tees and the Cotton Bowl tees," Bonawitz said.Customers roll in one after another.“I’ve got an undefeated season t-shirt because they are and I’m an alumni and both my kids came here and we are so excited and beat ‘Bama," UC alumni Jane Elliott said. Fans can't get enough gear. “We are getting people in from Texas, from California, all over the US who have become fans just from this year," Bonawitz said.Elliott has been a fan since the 1980s and is excitedly awaiting the Cotton Bowl.Elliott said one thing is for sure, Cincinnati is ready to celebrate."They'll be a party at my house. Come on over," Elliott said.DuBois is processing up to 200 online orders a day, and shipping to fans across the country.Cincy Shirts is also seeing a rise in sales. They have partnered with Bearcats coach Luke Fickell and will soon offer shirts benefiting the coach's 2nd and 7 Foundation.

A good Samaritan stepped in to catch a purse snatching suspect. It happened Sunday at Kroger on Oxford State Road in Lemon Township.“You have a million thoughts," victim Pat Goins said. "You think ‘this can’t be happening. Not to me.’” Goins is reflecting on what happened to her during the incident.“And, then I screamed ‘he stole my purse,'" Goins said. The 87-year-old said she turned her head for just a second when a man grabbed her purse and took off running. In an instant, she said, customers stepped in.“Boy, he responded like right now," Goins said. She's talking about Deshawn Pressley. “Hearing her voice screaming and her being scared," Pressley said. "I just knew I had to do something.”Pressley chased the man, out of the store and to his car.“He had to pull him out of the truck, and he had him on the ground and had his knee on him," Goins said. She said she was shocked at what all transpired, but mustered up a few words for the thief.“I think I was a little bit hurt to think that somebody would do that. And, I told him, I pointed at him and said ‘you know, if you needed something, all you had to do was ask,'" Goins said. Goins believes she was a target from the moment she stepped out of her car, from her age, to being alone, Goins said she is making changes in the future.“Be aware of those around you. Just be cautious. Because your life is very precious," Goins said.Goins wants Pressley to know what his actions meant to her that day.“You are truly a great person," she said. "I owe you more than I could ever thank you for and I want you to have a great life, a great year and love that baby girl.”For Goins and Pressley, they both believe there are still good people in the world.Butler County Sherriff Richard K. Jones announced, Derek Vaughn, 54, of Middletown was arrested and charged with a felony of the third degree and theft and a felony of the fifth degree because of the victim's age.

Every year, we hear about the dangers of real Christmas trees and how they can catch fire if not properly taken care of. But, one local fire department has some good news to report this holiday season. Colerain Township Fire Department has seen just one actual structure fire in the community since Thanksgiving. The fire was found to have been caused by a space heater."That is probably our best year," special projects manager Robert Rielage said. "I think the reason for that has been, people are home. People have smoke detectors."The department tracks structure fires during their "Keep the Wreath Red" holiday safety campaign that will wrap up New Year's Day. Rielage said now is the time to get rid of that live tree and holiday greenery.“What we would ask residents to do is to periodically check the needles. You can tell if they’re very prickly or if they’re falling. That’s the time when they need to take down the tree and basically get rid of it," Rielage said. You can do that by recycling it. There are several drop-off sites in Hamilton County. In Colerain Township, you pull into the city building and follow the sign that reads "Christmas Tree Drop Off."“What we do is, our public works and public services division takes those trees and mulches them up and makes a mulch that we can use now for our parks and recreation," Rielage said. Live trees should be cleared of all decorations and should not be wrapped in plastic.Other drop-off locations include Keehner Park at 7411 Barret Road and Beckett Park at 8650 Beckett Road in the West Chester Baseball Complex. In Colerain Township, the department will continue to collect trees until mid-January.

A warning has been issued for pet owners as veterinarians across Greater Cincinnati are seeing an increase in upper respiratory illnesses in dogs. Amber Fowler said her dog began his symptoms with fatigue. "He started coughing Wednesday night and throwing up," Amber Fowler said. Fowler said her dog, Ralphie, became ill after being boarded for two days."It was super sad," Fowler said. "I was a little worried because they said it could turn into pneumonia if untreated." Cincinnati veterinarians said an upper respiratory illness, like the one 10-month-old Ralphie had, is on the rise."They immediately knew that was what it was," Fowler said. "They checked to make sure his lungs sounded ok. And, they said after about a week of him being better that he can go back to normal activity." Symptoms of the virus include coughing, fever, fatigue, weight loss, loss of appetite and trouble breathing. The virus is highly contagious and veterinarians suggest you avoid boarding, grooming and taking your pet to dog parks.Fowler said this could happen to any family and no one is to blame. She also advised pet owners to know the symptoms because looking back, Ralphie's fatigue was the first sign something was wrong. Veterinarians said it's unknown what is causing the illness. For Fowler, she is grateful Ralphie is back to his old self. After losing her father to COVID-19 related issues in October, Ralphie has brought much-needed joy to their family. "We were just in a really sad place, so we needed him," Fowler said. "We needed joy."To protect your pet, reach out to your veterinarian for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. And, make sure your pup is up-to-date with immunizations.
