More than a year after the bodies of Maggie Murdaugh and her son Paul were discovered on the prominent Lowcountry family's property in Colleton County, South Carolina, charges in the double homicide may be filed as soon as this week.On Tuesday, family members were told disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh would be charged this week in the murder of his wife and son. John Marvin Murdaugh, Alex Murdaugh's younger brother, told WCIV SLED agents did not tell the family what charges Murdaugh will face but they would be in connection to the double homicide.Alex Murdaugh told authorities from the onset he discovered the bodies of his wife and son after they were shot to death the night of June 7, 2021. Murdaugh was eventually charged with dozens of fraud-related crimes after allegations he stole millions of dollars from his clients and from the family of the former Murdaugh housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, who died after a fall at the Murdaugh home.Alex Murdaugh's attorney Jim Griffin provided sister station WJCL the following statement:"We have not been advised by anyone associated with law enforcement or the Attorney General's office that Alex will be charged with murder. I am aware that SLED advised the family that they intend to seek murder indictments from a grand jury later this week. More than six weeks after prominent Lowcountry attorney Alex Murdaugh reported being shot in the head off a Hampton County road, South Carolina's Law Enforcement Division has released 911 calls made that day.Murdaugh initially told law enforcement that he was changing a tire on September 4 when someone drove past, stopped and shot him in the head.The incident took place just three months after Murdaugh discovered the bodies of his wife and son on the family's property in Colleton County.TIMELINE: The Murdaugh MurdersExactly 10 days after the roadside incident, Curtis Edward Smith, 61, was arrested in connection with the shooting after Murdaugh confessed to police that it was all a part of an assisted suicide plot.Murdaugh says he wanted his surviving son Buster to collect on a $10 million life insurance policy.On Friday, SLED released three 911 calls placed that day related to the incident: one by a passerby and two made by Murdaugh himself.In the phone call from by a passerby, the caller says she saw a man on the side of the road, covered in blood and waving his hands.Below video: Passerby calls 911, sees Murdaugh bleeding by the side of the roadDispatch: Hampton County 911.
