<p>A North Carolina community is heartbroken after a police trooper died in a tragic car crash Monday night.</p>
<p>Trooper John Horton was pronounced dead at a Spartanburg hospital after suffering injuries in a crash involving a police cruiser driven by his brother, Trooper James Horton.</p>
<p>A motorcyclist that John Horton had pulled over also died in the collision.</p>
<p>"He's one of the greatest men I ever met," said James Lovelace, a family friend of the Hortons.</p>
<p>Lovelace arrived on the scene after hearing the crash just outside his home in Rutherford County.</p>
<p>"I knew just as soon as I seen him who it was," Lovelace said. "He's gone. All his kids. His wife. Why couldn't they have picked somebody else?"</p>
<p>Some in the area came by Tuesday to place markers at the scene. Others came by to pay their respects to the men who died there.</p>
<p>Friends say James Horton — who goes by Nick — was inspired to go into law enforcement because of his older brother's dedication.</p>
<p>"It's probably like a bad dream to him this morning. Like a bad dream you just can't get out of," family friend Anthony Smith said.</p>
<p>Colonel Freddy L. Johnson Jr., the commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, released a statement honoring the fallen trooper.</p>
<p>"Our hearts are broken with the loss of our friend and our brother, Trooper John Horton. For all involved in this tragic event the coming days will undoubtedly be difficult, but we are committed to stand alongside with them with our thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support," Johnson's statement read.</p>
<p>Back the Blue NC told <a class="Link" href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/04/us/north-carolina-state-trooper-john-horton-dies-after-hit-by-brother-trnd/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a> that the organization started a <a class="Link" href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/benefit-for-family-of-trooper-john-horton?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&amp;utm_medium=copy_link_all&amp;utm_source=customer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GoFundMe </a>to assist the family with funeral costs.</p>

Harley-Davidson's electric motorcycle brand, LiveWire, will be spun off as a separate publicly-traded company next year.LiveWire will still be 74% owned by Harley-Davidson and its financial results will be reported along with Harley's, but it will have its own stock trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "LVW." The new company will go public in the first half of 2022 through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, according to Harley-Davidson. Taiwanese motorcycle company Kymco is also investing in the new company and will own a 17.3% share.Video above: Harley-Davidson struggles to rev-up sales with its electric motorcycleThe spinoff gives LiveWire an enterprise valuation of nearly $1.8 billion. Harley-Davidson's overall current market capitalization is about $5.8 billion.LiveWire currently offers just one model, the $22,000 LiveWire One. The 100-horsepower bike has a range of 146 miles in low-speed urban riding and 70 miles in higher-speed highway riding. Harley's LiveWire electric motorcycle was first shown as a concept bike in 2014. It went on sale as a production model in 2019 but was frequently criticized for its high price at the time of about $30,000.Harley-Davidson plans for LiveWire to release three more electric motorcyle models, but the company did not provide a timeline for when. It expects to sell around 190,000 electric motorcycles globally in 2030. In 2021, Harley-Davidson sold fewer than 400 LiveWire motorcycles. The brand will also sell small electric bicycles for children.LiveWire competes against startup electric motorcycle makers like Zero and Lightning, both based in the United States, and Italy's Energica. Electric motorcycles currently make up just 1% of motorcycle sales in the U.S., according to Harley-Davidson, but the company expects them to make up 10% by 2026. By that time, they are expected to make up 13% of sales in Europe and 45% in China, according to a Harley-Davidson investor presentation.Harley-Davidson announced its own five-year strategy earlier this year which involved focusing on the brand's core market segments of large touring and cruiser bikes.

<p>ROSS TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man was found dead Thursday afternoon in a wooded area off Ohio 27 in Ross Twp. after what investigators believe was a motorcycle crash on Tuesday night, according to WCPO's media partner The Journal News. </p>
<p>Ross Twp. police confirmed Friday that the man believed to be Steve “Dewey” Ruth was found several hundred feet off the road in the woods near Herman Road.</p>
<p>Dave Rader, director of Texas Equusearch Midwest, a non-profit organization that has helped in thousands of searches, was traveling to Hueston Woods on Thursday to continue the search for another man who went missing four weeks ago when a member posted information about Ruth and asked it be shared.</p>
<p>“I felt compelled that we had to do something, since he had not been seen since about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening,” Rader said.</p>
<p>He and other members of Equusearch knew Ruth. Rader said the received information that Ruth was last seen at Joey’s Bar on Burlington Road in Springfield Twp. and was heading to the Oxford area and may have traveled on Ohio 27.</p>
<p>That’s the route Rader and another member took looking for him. Less than 90 minutes later, Ruth was found dead.</p>
<p>“We immediately started to look off to the shoulder,” Rader said.</p>
<p>When Rader began driving the berm, he saw where something had penetrated the woods, and that’s where Ruth was found, he said.</p>
<p>“They were going to put on a search for him that night with several friends from the biker community,” Rader said. “I didn’t want any of his friends to find him in the manner that I found. It was just a matter of training that I knew what to look for.”</p>
<p>Rader said it looked like Ruth didn’t turn and continued straight.</p>
<p>“I don’t think he suffered. He loved his bike, and he road it to the end,” Rader said.</p>
<p>Ross Police Capt. Patrick Carr said there was no missing report filed for Ruth. But friends started to get worried about him when he wasn’t seen at usual places and started looking for him.</p>
<p>Carr said it does not appear any other vehicles were involved, and officials are confident Ruth is the person found. He said the Butler County Coroner’s Office would be conducting an autopsy Friday.</p>
<p>A GoFundMe account has been established for Ruth’s burial expenses.</p>

On the first day of Bike Week, the chief of police in Daytona Beach shared video of a motorcyclist driving over a drawbridge while it was going up. See the surveillance footage in the video player above. “Bike Week shenanigans have officially commenced,” Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said in a tweet sharing the video. Young said it happened on the Main Street drawbridge. He asked people to be safe during Bike Week and to be “smarter than this guy.” This year, for the first time in Bike Week history, Main Street is closed to everything except motorcycles for the duration of the event.Officials think it might help control the crowds. There seems to still be plenty of people at the event regardless. The crowd is swelling in the heart of Daytona Beach and at other venues including Destination Daytona. There are no limits on people outdoors though, some business owners are obligated to keep the indoor crowd at 60% occupancy. However, few people at the event seem concerned about coronavirus and not many were wearing masks. "We masked up for a year, followed what we were supposed to do for a year. I think most people have either had it or moved on by now," one person said.Officers are on patrol at the various locations though they say they are not the social distance police. Instead, they're just at Bike Week to keep the peace and keep an eye out for bad behavior.

<p>This year, for the first time in Bike Week history, Main Street is closed to everything except motorcycles for the duration of the event.</p>
<p>Officials think it might help control the crowds. There seems to still be plenty of people at the event regardless. </p>
<p>The crowd is swelling in the heart of Daytona Beach and at other venues including Destination Daytona.</p>
<p>There are no limits on people outdoors though, some business owners are obligated to keep the indoor crowd at 60% occupancy.</p>
<p>However, few people at the event seem concerned about coronavirus and not many were wearing masks. </p>
<p>"We masked up for a year, followed what we were supposed to do for a year. I think most people have either had it or moved on by now," one person said.</p>
<p>Officers are on patrol at the various locations though they say they are not the social distance police. Instead, they're just at Bike Week to keep the peace and keep an eye out for bad behavior.</p>
