JATARA: YOU KNOW, THE LAST DEVELOPMENT THE PUBLIC HAS KNOWN ABOUT IN THIS CASE WAS MORE THAN SIX YEARS AGO. TONIGHT, A MAN IS FACING CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO THE INVESTIGATION. NO ONE HAS BEEN CHARGED AT LEAST NOT YET IN KATELYN’S MURDER. IT’S A COLD CASE THAT’S PUZZLED INVESTIGATORS FOR MORE THAN A DECADE. NOW THE INVESTIGATION INTO WHO KILLED KATELYN MARKHAM MAY BE WARMING UP. TODAY, INVESTIGATORS UNSEALED AN INDICTMENT FOR JONATHAN PALMERTON. THE 35-YEAR-OLD WAS INDICTED FOR PERJURY AND BOOKED IN THE BUTLER COUNTY JAIL THIS AFTERNOON. PROSECUTOR MIKE GMOSER, TELLING WLWT PALMERTON LIED AT SOME POINT DURING THE INVESTIGATION. KATELYN DISAPPEARED FROM HER FAIRFIELD HOME JUST DAYS BEFORE HER 22ND BIRTHDAY IN AUGUST 2011. HER REMAINS WERE FOUND ALMOST TWO YEARS LATER NEAR A CREEK IN INDIANA. IN 2016, BUTLER COUNTY DETECTIVES, WHO TOOK OVER THE CASE, SAID THEY HAD A STRONG PERSON OF INTEREST. BUT MORE THAN SIX YEARS LATER THE CASE REMAINS UNSOLVED. ( {DAVE MARKHAM KATELYN’S FATHER / -- >> WE WILL GET IT. WE WILL GET ANSWERS. JATARA: DAVE MARKHAM HAS TALKED WITH US MANY TIMES OF THE YEARS DESPERATE TO SEE HIS DAUGHTER’S KILLER HELD ACCOUNTABLE. TONIGHT, HE SAID HE’S GRATEFUL INVESTIGATORS HAVEN’T GIVEN UP BUT SAID HE NEEDED THE WEEKEND TO PROCESS THE DEVELOPMENTS. >> MY FIANCE IS MISSING. I CAN’T FIND HER ANYWHERE. JATARA: KATELYN’S FIANCE JOHN CARTER WAS THE LAST KNOWN PERSON TO SEE HER. >> SHE WAS AT HER HOUSE. SHE WAS GOING TO BED. SHE WASN’T GOING OUT TO DO ANYTHING. JATARA: GMOSER ALSO CONFIRMED SEARCH WARRANTS WERE EXECUTED AT PALMERTON’S HOME AND THE HOME WHERE JOHN CARTER LIVED AT THE TIME OF KATELYN’S DISAPPEARANCE. CARTER IS NOT CHARGED WITH ANY CRIMES. JATARA: WE ASKED THE PROSECUTOR ABOUT PALMERTON’S CONNECTION TO MARKHAM. HE SAID INVESTIGATORS ARE NOT RELEASING THAT DETAIL RIGHT NOW. REPORTING LIVE JATARA MCGEE WL

The Butler County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday an arrest has been made in one of the biggest cold cases in the area. The disappearance of Katelyn Markham sent shock waves through the community. Markham disappeared from her Fairfield home back in 2011. Two years later, her body was found in Indiana. On Friday, police said Jonathan Palmerton was indicted on a perjury charge, accused of lying to investigators during course of investigation. Police said there was a cooperative effort between agencies that led to multiple search warrants for evidence in the case. The searches led to "useful evidence" in the case, police said. Palmerton has only been charged with perjury, he is not facing any other charges at this time. He is currently being held at the Butler County Jail.

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. - Two sanitation workers in south central Louisiana are being praised for their sharp eyes and quick thinking in the rescue of a 10-year-old kidnapping victim.

At 7:30 a.m. Monday, two employees for Pelican Waste & Debris were on the job in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, east of Lafayette. They’d heard the Amber Alert for a missing 10-year old girl from New Iberia earlier in the morning, and as they drove down Burton Plantation Highway, they looked to the left, and saw something suspicious.

They captured the moment on video that they quickly posted to Facebook. “Bruh, something told me,” said truck driver Dion Merrick on the video, “I said ‘What that car doin’ way off in the field like that? what the car doin’? come on, man!’

“And he was like, ‘B, that looks like the silver Nissan in the Amber Alert’,” recalls Merrick’s partner, Brandon Antoine.

Using Facebook to give on location, minute-by-minute updates, Merrick and Antoine chose to act, and they trapped the suspect, Michael Sereal, in the wet and muddy field.

“Look what I did,” said Merrick, turning his camera phone toward his garbage truck, “look where we was parked. I blocked the truck in and made sure he couldn’t get out. He (Sereal) got nervous, he opened the door, and I said to Brandon, ‘that’s the dude right there’. So we blocked the drive onto the highway with that big truck, and I knew, ‘You ain’t gettin’ out with that big thing.”

At the same time, Merrick and Antoine called the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Department. “We called 9-1-1 at the same time I backed my truck up in the driveway to make sure he didn't get out, and talked to the 9-1-1. The operator basically told me i had about a minute before a deputy was going to be on the scene.”

The girl was reported missing from a family's member's home Sunday afternoon, according to New Iberia police. Later Sunday night, an Amber Alert was issued once police had details to share of the vehicle she might be in.

Sereal is being held on a charge of aggravated kidnapping of a child and failure to register as a sex offender, according to records.

KATC reports Sereal was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 2016.

Both Antoine and Merrick are fathers, and they say what happened to the young girl and what could have happened strikes close to home. Deciding to get involved was a no-brainer.

“The little girl’s safe right now. Thank God, man. ‘Cuz I got a little girl of my own. I’m on my job, doin’ what I got to do,” said Merrick on the video. And Antoine, a step-father to three children and the father to one more, said the whole incident touched his heart. “Right after, I called one of my children, said ‘I love you’, and I can’t wait to see them all and hug them tight.”

There are a couple of messages from our heroes, even though neither considers himself a hero. Message #1: Know where you’re children are, and #2: Thank a higher power for this miracle.

“Whoever’s little girl this is, you need to fall down on your knees and say, ‘thank you God, thank you. ‘Cuz it could have been worse’.”

The other message from our heroes? So many people often see things that don’t look right, but don’t do anything about them, they choose not to get involved. Pelican employees Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine had the courage to do otherwise.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Children vanish, and tragically, sometimes they're never found. The hope is that's not the case with Summer Wells - the missing 5-year-old out of northeast Tennessee.

It's true, and the search effort has been scaled back after crews have found no trace of the child. But, no one is giving up, and authorities continue to investigate the cause behind the scenes, especially when foul play may be involved.

Unfortunately, sometimes missing children are never found. Take the high-profile case of Joe Clyde Daniels, for example. His father was convicted of murder, but the boy's remains were never found.

The question many ask: What's the fate of Summer Wells.

It's been more than a month since the 5-year-old was reported missing from her home in Hawkins County, Tennessee. That is a long time for a missing child.

"The longer you go, the less likely you will have a successful recovery. About 1% of children survive longer than 24 hours. We hope that Summer Wells will be that one-percenter. She's going to be a one-percenter," said Margie Quinn.

She headed up the state's Amber Alert program for eleven years before leaving the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and is an expert in human trafficking.

She's not involved in the Wells investigation. But she's followed it and knows abduction is a strong possibility, but not likely for human trafficking.

"That's always the public's first thought that they've been abducted and trafficked. People who traffic are not going to abduct them. It brings too much attention."

The Summer Wells case has been highly publicized. If she were to show up on an internet site suddenly, people would know. She's not there.

So, what are the TBI and FBI currently doing?

"In any case like that where they've had like nine-hundred leads, you've got to look at every possible angle," said Jeremy Lofquest.

He is a TBI Special Agent in Charge working on abductions and human trafficking.

Sources have told WTVF it now appears unlikely Wells just wandered off, or bloodhounds certainly would have found some sign of her in the nearby woods.

So, the focus shifts more to foul play. Agent Lofquest is not directly involved with the Wells case but says it is handled like other similar missing child cases.

"You look at all the relationships, and all the circumstances from what you think is the beginning and follow the timeline."

That includes questioning parents, siblings, relatives, everyone close to the child, and those who live nearby.

"Neighbors are going to be interviewed, sex offenders in the area will be interviewed. Anybody with likelihood to commit this type of crime," said Quinn.

To date, that's all been done. And still, after more than a month of searching, questioning, and hundreds of tips sent to the TBI hotline, nothing. No suspects. No trace of Summer Wells.

Again, no one is giving up. But the simple fact is this: Without any credible new leads or a person who knows something coming forward, Summer Wells, like Joe Clyde Daniels - another five-year-old who vanished - may never be found.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with any type of tip, no matter how small, to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.

Nick Beres at WTVF first reported this story.

It's the last known cell phone activity of 19 year old son Ia Dennis. A Snapchat photo taken what appears to be here in front of the Nikola Tesla statue on Goat Island. It's the spot where Sherry Twitchell and her sister, Samantha ross. Oh, from Sloan. Immediately wanted to come in their search for Sin. Ia find out where her picture, that last picture was taken. Police have not publicly addressed that Snapchat photo, but the Buffalo State students cellphone last pinged in the area of Goat Island at 1:23 a.m. Sunday morning, april 25th Dennis has been missing for nine days. At first, we were told that her phone ping over in the Gold Island. Three sisters area. But that what we know now is that ping was her cell phone activity of her taking the picture or what we suspect to be her taking the picture. Julia stevens has been organizing a boots on the ground search for Dennis every day since last week. She says this weekend Searchers found a black shirt and turned it over to police. Dennis was last seen here wearing all black on the elevator, leaving her dorm on Buffalo States campus that night. I don't think that her family is losing hope and I think that everybody that has shown up here today and that has shown up here to the search efforts every day has hope that we will be returning home safely. We have not heard directly from university police since this tense hour long news conference last friday. Buffalo State Police are the lead agency on this case and the only agency authorized to speak on the search efforts. We've tried multiple times to get any new information from University police. They found it. We found video card. Okay, well, we need to see the last thing police said friday was that the N. F. T. A. Has video of dentist on or at a bus terminal from the night she disappeared. What we don't know is what that video shows. If she was alone, where that video was taken and the time stamp on that footage, all questions have been referred to. University police. Come on, Let's find her your home. She's worth it.
