Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Pakistani activist, has gotten married, she announced on Instagram on Tuesday.

"Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families," Yousafzai wrote in the caption.

"Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead," she added.

Her husband is Asser Malik, an operations manager for the Pakistan Cricket Board from the city of Lahore.

Yousafzai gained international recognition for her activism against the Taliban's efforts to stop girls from attending school.

When she was 15, she was shot in the head by a member of the Taliban and flown to England to receive treatment.

In 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, becoming the youngest laureate of the prize.

Last year, she graduated from Oxford University with a degree in philosophy, politics and economics.

An Iowa man pulled off the surprise of a lifetime from his hospital room.Jonathan Johnson was on a ventilator for nearly four weeks fighting COVID-19. After having the vent removed, he wanted to surprise his fiance by getting married in the hospital. The staff then helped him get a cake and take photos, while a friend snuck his fiance Mariah's dress into the hospital. "I was an emotional ball. I was shocked," said Mariah Copeland-Johnson. "I didn't think this would happen that soon, but I'm so happy that it did, so I can spend my forever with the man that I love."The couple has a son who is turning 2 soon. Jonathan can't wait to one day tell their son the unusual way his parents got married. Watch the video above to see pictures from the couple's special day.

A new piece of legislature in Ohio wants to make it illegal for a married person to rape their partner.

Ohio is one of a few states where spousal rape is still legal, and House Bill 121 wants to change that. The bill would "eliminate the spousal exceptions" for crimes like rape, sexual battery and gross sexual imposition.

"It is just offensive to me as a woman, as someone who is married, that under Ohio law my husband, my spouse under certain circumstances, it is not criminal for him to engage in the act of raping me,” Rep. Kristin Boggs, who sponsored the bill, said.

Boggs said people who oppose the bill think if the exemption is removed, false accusations would pour in, especially in divorce cases. She doesn't believe that will happen, though, and she said the benefits outweigh the risks.

"It is really nearly impossible to prove these allegations unless there is concrete evidence that is indisputable that a marital spouse engaged in raping their partner,” Boggs said.

This bill was first introduced to the House in 2017 and has been brought up to the legislature three times. The bill is in the House Criminal Justice Committee, and opposing testimony had not been heard as of Friday.
