A 27-year-old man charged for fatally hitting "Gone Girl" actress Lisa Banes last year with an electric moped and then leaving the scene pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Wednesday, prosecutors say.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Brian Boyd pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.

Prosecutors said he is expected to be sentenced on November 30, as he faces one to three years in prison.

“Brian Boyd drove recklessly with no regard for pedestrians, fatally striking a beloved actress and New Yorker before speeding off to avoid accountability,” said Bragg in a news release. “Lisa Banes will be remembered for her contributions to the rich fabric of New York City through her roles on screen and on Broadway. I offer her friends, family, and the many who loved her during her decades-long career my deepest condolences.”

On June 4, 2021, Banes was crossing a street in New York City when Boyd drove through a red light at the intersection and hit her with a moped he was operating.

Prosecutors said Boyd did not have a driver’s license and was riding an unregistered electric moped without a license plate.

Banes was hospitalized but succumbed to her injuries on July 14, 2021. She was 65.

Prosecutors said Boyd, who fled the scene, was later arrested on August 5, 2021.

According to the Associated Press, Banes' career included appearances in the 1988 movie “Cocktail" and on TV shows, including “Nashville,” “Madam Secretary,” “Masters of Sex,” and “NCIS.”

Manhattan prosecutors said Thursday that they will bring criminal charges against a man who used a deadly chokehold on an unruly passenger aboard a New York City subway train, an incident that stirred outrage and debates about the response to mental illness in the nation’s largest transit system.

Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran, will be arrested and face a charge of second-degree manslaughter, which could carry a jail term of up to 15 years.

“We cannot provide any additional information until he has been arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court, which we expect to take place tomorrow,” the Manhattan district attorney's office said in a statement.

The charges come nearly two weeks after Penny pinned fellow subway rider Jordan Neely, 30, to the floor of a subway car and put him in a chokehold that lasted for several minutes.

According to a freelance journalist who witnessed the struggle, Neely had been screaming and begging for money aboard the train prior to the takedown but had not physically attacked anyone.

Attorneys for Penny did not immediately respond to a request for comment. They previously said their client, along with two other riders who helped restrain Neely, had acted in self-defense.

“Daniel never intended to harm Mr. Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death,” they said in a statement.

A former subway performer known for his spot-on Michael Jackson impression, Neely struggled in recent years with homelessness and worsening mental illness, friends said. He had been arrested several times and had recently pleaded guilty to assaulting a 67-year-old woman in 2021 as she left a subway station. After pleading guilty, he missed a court date, leading to a warrant for his arrest that was still active at the time of his death.

His death has divided some in New York and beyond, triggering intense debates and protests. Left-leaning advocates described the killing as an act of racist vigilantism, invoking comparisons to the infamous subway shooting carried out by Bernhard Goetz against four teenagers in 1984.

Others, including Mayor Eric Adams, have urged caution, calling on New Yorkers to wait for the full facts and investigations. They note that much is still not known about what precipitated the chokehold.

As the investigation has continued, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has faced pressure to make an arrest.

WARSAW, Ky. — The driver involved in a police pursuit that ended in a fatal crash in Gallatin County now faces a slew of other charges, including manslaughter.

According to Kentucky State Police, a Warsaw Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. 42 for speeding just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle did not stop, leading police on a chase that ended when the vehicle collided with a concrete wall.

The driver, 31-year-old Josh Hodges of Florence, was transported to an area hospital for medical care, as was a 34-year-old passenger in his vehicle. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

A third passenger, identified as 54-year-old Shanda Withrow of Hamilton, Ohio, was not wearing a seat belt and died in the crash, police said.

Kentucky State Police said Hodges has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and first-degree criminal mischief. Hodges had previously been charged with fleeing or evading police and multiple traffic offenses by the Warsaw Police Department.

Hodges is currently lodged at Louisville Metro Corrections. The Kentucky State Police Post 5 reconstruction team is continuing their investigation.
